If you've done them before, you probably know all of the basics. I've found that having the plastic between an outside board and an inside one will help from cutting the plastic.
Hopefully you have a nice level surface, otherwise the flood and freeze process will be painstaking to ensure that the deep end actually freezes.
Based on the snow you probably have now (I am in northern NS, just across the water) you can probably pack it down now and start watering to get the base. A few more cold days and you should be ready to go.
We are not doing one this year due to the damage to the lawn caused by last years, but have fun. I know we will miss it!
