Oscars

I was working tonight and when I got home I turned on the television right as they announced Best Picture. I said,"Of course, La La Land". I went to the bathroom. I went back to the television. Am I crazy??!!! How did Moonlight also win Best Picture??!!! o_O :lmao:It was a confusing couple of minutes there.

Moonlight is the only winner. There are 2 of each envelope and it seems the announcer was given the 2nd best actress envelope instead if the best picture envelope. Several people goofed for this to have happened.

Warren Beatty was clearly surprised when he pulled that card out of the envelope, he knew it was wrong.

Anthony Anderson is being such a total jerk on the after show saying he is lying and they purposely said the wrong name. Makes me glad I don't watch his show any more.
I agree. Anthony Anderson is being a jerk. Maybe he is trying to be funny but he is calling into suspicion any time in the past a black actor, actress or movie has lost an award. Not funny.

Ahhh, I see. I also see TMZ reporting like 13 erroneous and overly dramatic stories about this

Sounds like a bit of a whine to me.

Definitely. The difference is I am happy to own it, unlike most who are complaining about award winners speaking their minds. In the case of the awards shows, the vast majority of the whiners are people who have been pretty clear that they disagree with the entertainer's viewpoints. Coincidence? I doubt it.

Didn't watch because I'm not a movie buff and generally don't enjoy awards shows of any ilk. Watching the fawning coverage this morning of the cheap-shot political posturing that was most of the night's commentary, extra glad I didn't.

You can agree with the viewpoint but disagree with the time and place to express those viewpoints. :teacher:

The only one of the best picture nominations I saw this year was La La Land, and I really enjoyed it, but what I hear about Moonlight is that it was extraordinary. So I'm glad it won. I'll watch it eventually.

Or people are just sick of it all.

So, anything exciting happen on the show :rotfl:
Exactly. We cannot escape politics these days. 24/7 news networks, Twitter, FB, newspapers, neighborhood listservs, signs around the neighborhood, kids' school assignments, awards shows, sporting events, etc., etc. It's all TOO MUCH!!

I was never the biggest fan of awards shows but my sister LOVED them. Even she is sick of it to the point of not watching. In our case, has nothing to do with agreeing or not agreeing with the sentiment.

FOR US, film/tv is about an escape from reality -- A BREAK! Hard to get a break when they will not stay away from the very thing MANY Americans want a break FROM.

But I'm so glad that some are SO certain they know the minds of anyone and everyone switching off these awards shows... :rolleyes1

While political views are not allowed here, there is no rule that Oscar winners can't state their views while accepting an award. I think that the heroes in life are the ones who stand up for human rights no matter who they are. I'm all over my Facebook page with my opinions and if someone isn't interested they are free to block me. It's my opinion that if you don't speak out, you are part of the problem.

I've always wondered about the people who didn't stand up to certain figures in our past. Was it fear, hate, greed, apathy or ignorance? Don't let history repeat.

That is the issue, there are those on your opposing side that don't want certain things in history to repeat either. So, do you feel they should be overly vocal and speak out in order to stop that?

The problem is we are so divided in this country. Speaking out instead of working together does nothing. Everyone, on both sides is just "speaking out", what is it accomplishing? It seems nobody is willing to work together, each side digs in their heels and claims they are the ones in the right.
Maybe that is why history repeats, people just get sick of the BS and just give up. One side wins, one side loses.

The finish was, um, interesting LOL

Thankfully, the political ranting was pretty limited & for the most part on topic. :)

People should absolutely speak up for what they believe in. I think the biggest problem comes when people are dishonest about what they are saying and how they formed their opinion.
You can't work together if there's a lack of honesty.

You're right. Everyone should just keep their mouths shut and let the chips fall where they may. But no, not really.
