Oscars

No interest here. I'll see the movies on cable in a year or so. If anything interesting happens it'll be on-line. Have fun!

I'll break the trend here and say that I love the show, including (especially?) The political stuff.

I can't imagine them being called on stage to accept the award, getting there to just say "thank you" and leave. How dull!

They don't have to stick to "thank you", but some random rant that has ZERO to do with the film they were in and drones on & on is a guaranteed FF on my part. I mean, imagine if every winner brought a projector on stage & spent a minute showing slides from their last vacation or their kids' birthday parties. That would be equally relevant (or irrelevant) and just about as entertaining.

Edit: and sometimes a simple thank you is just right:

I'm boycotting the Oscars for picking The Arrival as a Best Picture nominee. That movie sucked.

Not a big Kimmel fan.
Not a fan of Any Actor that thinks his/her time/opinion is More Important than mine... don't waste my time with ur soapbox antics at an Awards Show.
( put ur money where ur mouth is... buy an ad, lol)

The Oscars are for celebration and Enjoyment and I used to "enjoy" the fashion aspect...

...not watching this year.

It's in the middle of the day on a Monday for us so I certainly won't be watching live, although I will be updating to see if Lin Manuel Miranda gets his EGOT. I might record it rather than watch the replay though so I can skip through most of it and just watch the major categories and the original song nominees (again, especially for LMM!).

And so many threads turn politiçal here. ;)

I don't mind a little bit of political stuff. I'm going to watch.

The most self entitled, out of touch, limousine $&@#*+}, talking up their overrated art while talking down to anybody that might disagree with them, no thanks.....Tom Brady has more talent in his left elbow than every smug dbag in that room.

I guess he's actually going for a PEGOT which is even harder to get. Hamilton won a Pulitzer. That's the P.
I'll be watching. I like it. Besides all these posts of people whining about the political opinions in the speeches makes me want to watch it even more.

Yup, and as we can see here, all the whining of the Hollywood Elite is turning lots of people off.

I was actually going to say PEGOT but figured the chances of people knowing what the P was for were pretty slim. Looks like there are more of us theatre nerds out there than I thought! :goodvibes

Nah, I'm not a theater nerd at all. I happened across the PEGOT thing while reading about the nominees. I had never heard of it before. I just figured I'd share it because I didn't think a lot of people know about the Pulitzer win.

I watched the NAACP Image Awards last night and will be watching the Oscars tonight. I'm disappointed that Birth Of A Nation was not nominated. I'm all for the winners expressing their political views. Their views and opinions are just as valid as any other American's.

Yes, their opinions are "as valid" as anyone else's. But, none of those "anyone elses" get a microphone at the Oscars. Allowing political commentary at the Oscars doesn't give celebrities the same validity as you or I. It gives them MORE.

Now, i will say, if the commentary ties into the film for which you were nominated, that's different. Hidden Figures? Sure, make a comment. Lala Land? Just say "thanks".

I used to watch every year, but I rostered myself to work this year (it will be Monday morning here whilst the show is airing). I'll have a live news feed running on my computer though.

I'm just not really interested in the films this year, although I've seen the front runners, and hope Moonlight wins best picture. Like others have said, I'm turned off by what will likely turn into a political pedastal for the attendees.
