Osbourne Lights NOT showing this year

Aw dang. So NOT interested in a stunt show (although DH might? When does that start? LOL) -but was looking forward to seeing the lights again. My youngest was asleep in the stroller last time (first and only time we saw them) and I know she would have enjoyed them this year so much!
Ohwell....

I wonder why Disney doesn't just put up the lights on NY St. and be done with it! Why wait until next year to switch them to NY St.? I am still waiting for the official word as a WDW Christmas w/o Osbourne Lights just seems CRAZY!

I believe they are also renovating the NY Street also, so the whole area will be closed.

When we were there in early October 1999 they were already starting to string the lights, so it's a big project that takes time. They are going to have to redesign the entire presentation.

Very sad and a bad decision by Disney IMO. It is misleading if they are not going to be there to not disclose that fact to those who are planning on visiting during that period.

This news is very disturbing...

Last year was our FIRST ever trip to WDW for the holidays.
(Over Thanksgiving)

We made it a point to see the Lights and spend alot of time there. With MGM so lit up , it was special.

When we were there last August ( from the 16th to the 25th) we actually saw them in the beginning stages of putting the lights up. We saw all the displays when we took the BackLot Tour.

We will be there this August too....I hope I see what I saw last August. That means " There will be LIGHTS"

Not to sound cynical but I wonder how big the bonus will be for the great thinker that figured out how much money Disney would save by taking one year off from the Osbourne lights?

I don't think the first decision was to take out the Osborne lights, the first decision was to put in this stunt show and a consequence was no Osborne lights for this year. Let's face it, the residential street is getting old, I don't think they use it for production anymore. They probably thought it wasn't worth keeping in order to use it 1 month a year for the Osborne Lights. I think they are looking for something new to attract people to MGM. When I was there on a Monday afternoon last month, it was empty. When I rode ToT there were 3 people in the car including myself! Couldn't believe it! At the end, we joked that everyone else disappeared! At least they are planning for it to come back, alot of things that go are gone for good.

If the residential street will be gone and the NY street is also under renovations then put the lights up on the street the leads to tower of terror. I guess it's called Sunset Blvd. People will understand that renovations are being made, but come on, to eliminate the lights for a year is just the easy way out.

Give us 1/10th of the lights that we had last year on the Blvd or on the main street in MGM. To give us nothing just doesn't seem like the best thing to do

I E-mail Disney and they would not say if the Osbourne
lights would not be up or thay would if I do hear anything I will
post it. Till then I will keep looking for any info.

:D

Oh I am soooo disappointed! The lights were one of the things I really was planning on enjoying this upcoming trip. Dang.

This is such a huge disappointment! I finally got DH to visit WDW during the holidays, and now this. Boo! Hiss!:( :( :(

I read (on another board  ) that someone had talked to CRO, and the person had FREAKED upon hearing this and immediately got their supervisor and asked...According to them, this rumor does not appear to be true at all. There will be work being done, but more over towards the Hunchback area. Just thought I'd throw that in the mix!

I really hope this rumor is untrue!! If true, I would cancel my ressies for December--I am supposed to be there Dec. 20-28. The Osbourne Family Lights are just the most magical part of Christmas down there!! It really is something else--we were so touched by the spectacle in 2001 that we paid for both DDs to go to Florida last year to see it, and they were speechless with wonder!! Younger DD just stood and stared in awe, and that's NEVER happened before!! Do you remember the awe you felt the first time you went to WDW? That's what seeing Osbourne Family Lights felt like to us.:D

I don't know why everyone keeps calling this a rumor. Jennings Osborne himself said they weren't going to be shown this year.

I think the fact that someone and their supervisor freaked at CRO and knew nothing about having no Osborne Lights being shown would be par for the course for CRO. They are the last to know just about everything!!!!! So many times over the years we on the DIS have know about closures and other events LONG before CRO!

is this the car stunt show at Disney Studios at DLP?!?!?! That show was AWESOME and will be an AWESOME addition to the studios :)

Everytime I come back to this post I feel sad. Was really looking forward to seeing the lights for the first time this year. I really wanted to see the christmas special (about the lights on TV) but somehow that also was changed and I never got to see this either. Tear, Tear, Sniffle, sniffle:(

I am really upset about this, we have never been for the holidays before and are going with friends who have never been to Disney before.

What about if we start a campaign, maybe if enough people e-mail Disney they will either confirm or deny the rumour and it may make them think about showing them somewhere else, even if it is on a smaller scale.

You know, an email campaign couldn't hurt.

Our family is also going in December, and we were looking forward to the lights. I find this decision very disappointing, and probably will just outright skip MGM now.

I don't know that emailing WILL change anything, but NOT speaking up certainly won't. If nothing else, it will get the point across that this was a most unpopular decision on their part.

I am off to email now.
