Osbourne Lights NOT showing this year

This will be our 1st Christmas living in Florida, and I was really looking forward to seeing the Osbourne Specticle of Lights. Oh well, as long as it is not going away permanently!

Muffy, I do not believe this is rumor. As I stated in my post, the person who posted this on another board, and she posted it somewhere on this board as well, actually spoke to the Osbourne's (see first page of this thread, that person states it) and they told her that it is a fact. Also, it is not going away permanently. It is returning in 2004.

Jennings did say that they would be returning in 2004 to New York St not Residential St, so, the rumor could possibly be true. We won't know for certain until they announce it.

I also believe this to be true. If you read this year's August - December Planner (info that comes directly from Disney), you will see that it does not mention the Osborne Lights. Last year's planner did. You can read the Planner for yourself on WDWIG:

You will note the last paragraph which fails to mention anything for the Holidays associated with MGM.

Disney's Magical Holidays celebration means special theme park fun beginning in late November and continuing through the last reprise of Auld Lang Syne. Popular holiday fun returning in 2003 will include Holiday's Around the World featuring Candlelight Processional at Epcot, Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom and New Year's Eve Celebration at Downtown Disney Pleasure Island.

I am also very disappointed. The Lights are one of my favorite Holiday attractions.

Nooooo!! I am going in December and was really looking forward to seeing the Osborne lights. If I hadn't already booked my airfare, I would cancel the trip and wait till the next year. I guess I'll have to find something else to fill the void.

My daughter wanted to go ice-skating in Downtown Disney - do they still do that?

Even if it is just for a year, the Osborne Lights will surely be missed. They are a wonderful addition to the park. At least it will be only for a little while. Of course that's no consolation to those of you who planned your trip around them!

WOW! I may have to rethink our plans to go to Disney in December. We were going for the Osbourne lights! Our children were so young the last time we were in Disney in December. This could be a deal breaker for us.

They are awesome, but I wouldn't call it a deal breaker that they aren't going to be shown this year. There are so many other just as wonderful Christmas activites - MVMCP, Candlelight Processional, Holidays Around the World, Tree Lightings, Resort Decorations.

This year is our first Christmas trip. We are taking my mom to Disney for the first time. I told her about the light spectacle and she was all excited. I am not going to burst her bubble just yet, but I myself was looking forward to seeing this. We will still be going b/c of all the other stuff going on, but that would have been great to see. Oh well. I guess that means we will have to go back again next year from Christmas!!!

No one said they were shutting it down for a car stunt show. That is just a rumor. There is rehab going on Res. St. and NY St. which is more than likely why they are not being displayed this year. They will be back next year on NY St.

They were that awesome on their own but over the years Disney has added so many decorations to the display that now they are just amazing!

Wow that is really too bad. We saw them the last 3 years and it is one of the highlights of our trip.
Last Dec we finally checked out all the resort decorations.
Since the lights will not be up some of you might want to think about checking that out. We were blown away by the christmas decorations at Y&BClub, AKL, WL and the GF. I know it isn't the same but it was still pretty awesome.

I saw them in 1996 and thought they were tacky. I'm going this year and I'll miss them but it won't be like someone did it to screw me.
