I am looking for an inexpensive recipe for a dough that my kids can tree ornamnets from to give as gifts. :santa: Anyone have one or know where I can find one? I have been unsuccessful in my internet searches.

For some reason the previous link did not open for me. I have always used equal parts applesauce and cinnamon. The dough can be rolled out thick or thin, remember to have straws on hand to poke holes in them before they dry. Regular cookie cutters are great to use with this dough. It does take several days for them to dry throughly. Turn them over every 12 hours or so.

The mccormick link recipe is as follows:
3/4 cup applesauce
1 cup + 2 Tablespoons cinnamon (4.12 ounces)

Bake 200 degrees for 2 1/2 hours. Use a straw to poke a hole for ribbon before baking.

That sounds sooo yummy!!! I think that I will let the kids make some and use them to tie onto packages. :santa:

Thanks! I'm going to make some Mickey and Minnie ones.

Oh this post brought back memories. I used to make these with my mom when I was little. I think I'll do this with my kids and the daycare kids I have.
Thanks for the warm fuzzy memory:goodvibes

We do the no bake kind

1 cup of applesauce
1 and a half cups of cinnamon
1/3 cup of WHITE GLUE(elmers school glue)

Mix it all up- chill for 30 minutes
roll it out
cut out your shapes
poke a hole for the ribbon to hang them at the top.

Let them air dry completely!! Can take a couple days.
They smell great.

I have never heard of these but sound like something my daughter would enjoy. But are they actual ornaments for the tree or do you eat them?

Clearly not EATING The ones I posted with the GLUE!:rotfl2: The other are the same- not for eating they would taste bad- It's a lot of cinnamon.

I forgot about these until this post. I have to break out the applesauce and make some. I love the smell it gives off.

:rotfl: Thanks!! I thought they were not for eating but with applesauce and cinnamon I was not sure!:rotfl: How long do they last?

I have one of the applesauce and cinnamon ones hanging in my car that my niece made me when she was six. She is 10 now.
It stil has a very faint smell of cinnamon, but really faint, you can only smell it when you hold it right to your nose.
But when I first got it my car smelled wonderful.
She loves that I hung it from my mirror and I tell her I think of her every time I get in my car because of it.
I did have one for the tree that the mice enjoyed one year. I brought my ornaments down and all I had in the tissue was some mouse droppings and a tiny bit of the ornament.

We also have used this one...

4 cups of flour, 1 1/2 cups of water and 1 cup of salt.
Either air dry or cook in 325 oven for an hour.

Sometimes we add food coloring or paint right to the mixture. Or you can paint after they are dry. We love to add sparkles, beads, yarn...:santa:

Thanks everyone! My kids and I can't wait to get started! I am doing this in stead of Santa's workshop for school this year. :santa: I know the Grandparents will enjoy getting a homemade ornament instead of some trinket. :lovestruc I am going to make some mickey head ones for our tree. Anyone know where I can get a full mickey mouse and minnie mouse shaped ornament? How about a minnie mouse head? Oh I miss Disney!!!!
