TAMPA HAS NO ROOM AT THE INN ........

Kevin Wiatrowski ‏@kwiatrowski VTB
Anyone seeking to wait out #HurricaneMatthew: hotels in Hillsborough County are full. Please look elsewhere. Stay safe! @VisitTampaBay

To reinforce, don't plan on heading to Disney Springs until Disney tells you it's reopened.

Don't be surprised if resorts begin to move to more minimal staffing to necessary only. Get what you need now, even if a line.

TraderSamsGrogGrotto ‏@TraderSamsWDW
Trader Sam's will be closing tonight at 8 so our skippers can try to get home and be safe.

-----------------------------------------------

Here is one of the box lunches. IMPORTANT info in red and honestly I think the price is a ripoff for that. I think $7-8 still puts a huge profit in their pocket. Sad.

#WDW taking advantage of ppl stranded. Hurricane boxes 12.99. U don't see inside till after you buy. No drink.

KENNY THE PIRATE REPORTS:

If on the Dining Plan that lovely box lunch does indeed come with a drink................

Food Courts and Restaurants are closing soon. Grab and Go like lunch box only. Wondering if others will see different.

ALSO there will be minimal maybe no Mousekeeping tomorrow. Request extra towels NOW.
Clean towels while supplies last. SO hang your towels in anticipation of reusing them.

Some reports of cable out at resorts.

Beginning to ask guests to stay in rooms until they hear something,
probably no earlier than tomorrow afternoon.

Been sitting here on the bed and looked at the phone. Need vm light flashing. No ring ring on phone so that's disturbing

Anyways. Restaurants at resorts are only taking dinners from that resort not others.

Also quick service is available as well as the box

Nothing else new

But the place is packed. I took a pano pic of CBR's OPR but it's too large to post here from my phone

View attachment 199398 Here you can see the umbrella so are holding the tables down. The umbrellas are pinned into a pole in the concrete

View attachment 199399
The volleyball poles got a divorce and one side got custody of the net. Also the beach chairs got tied to each other earlier this morning so now instead of five projectiles there will be one per beach

And finally the Caribbean Push got ziptied to the bench. Or the bench got zip tied to Push I'm not sure

If you are still looking for lodging ...

according to reports people complaining about the price of the food box are getting refunded.

On a positive note I have a friend that works at food and beverages. They closed a bit earlier than expected but gave everyone going into Pizzafari free pizzas and gave cookies and grapes and yogurts and chocolate milk, chips, apple sauce. Just the stuff we already had on hand.

Transportation
  • Tolls suspended on Florida toll roads in counties where there are evacuations.
  • Amtrak has temporarily suspended train service through the South through Saturday.

The umbrellas have a thread on the bottom and crew into the ground. They are not going anywhere.
Was on disaster relief after Andrew went through Homestead. Keeping in mind that Andrew was a 5 and Mathew is a 4, but based on first hand observation of destruction, the umbrellas may not go anywhere, but they may not be standing straight! I would definitely be concerned about those lounge chairs laying there. Definite missiles!

So - this is sort of a message for all the folks that might be stuck down there in a hotel room.

We've been there - it was Hurricane Irene a few years ago, we were staying in Myrtle Beach RIGHT on the water. The Hurricane hit the coast about 50 miles North of us, but they didn't evacuate the area.

At first we were a little frazzled at the idea of what to do. Should we try to drive out? And will it wreck our vacation?

But then we realized - we don't have it so bad. It's not our home, we won't have to clean up any mess. We were actually quite lucky compared to all the people that lived there. IN the end, we spent the day in our room and watched movies and played games and enjoyed eachothers company. The storm passed, and all was fine.

So that's my advice. Stay in, enjoy eachother's company, and then you can will have a story to tell when you get home. (Our story also included an Earthquake - which hit in DC that week, but we felt in our 15th floor hotel room.) Good luck everyone! (And if you also LIVE down there - good luck and hope you make it through without damage.)

I don't understand why guests are complaining about the food boxes that are being sold. It's not as if this storm just popped up. I've been tracking it for almost two weeks knowing I was coming down this week. I ordered extra food for my room. Additionally, I ordered room service earlier so I wouldn't need to eat a boxed meal. Disney has been gracious enough to prepare the meals for guests, there would be riots if they hadn't... I'm sure. I guess you can't please everyone.

At the Swan.
Letters are slid under doors of rooms with info, including :
MCO airport closed 8pm, will open sometime Saturday evening.
There's a curfew, keeping vehicles off the road.
Housekeeping services are suspended Friday.
Restaurants have limited menus.
Crossing between Swan and Dolphin will not be allowed during periods of time when it is deemed unsafe.

Looks like Disney is trying to compensate with longer hours on Saturday. MK open until 12AM; EPCOT open until 10PM; DHS open until 8:00; and Animal Kingdom open until 8:30.

Apparently Disney is even hoping they can get at least one park open late Friday.

I would assume they would open that to resort guests only? If they can and its safe good for them. I'm impressed that they're providing those extended hours. I know it's only an hour, but Epcot until 10 is unheard of outside of holidays/emh.

They were yelling at @bioreconstruct to go home despite being at universal two hours before it closed

Those are standard hours for a Saturday for this timeframe. The 15th has the same hours.

They've had Epcot open until 10 for F&w nights quite frequently. Not sure that it would be just for resort guests- they need to make up the $$$

Did not know that about Epcot during F&W. Learn something new every day.

I was suppose to travel down tomorrow for the weekend. Those were the hours months ago.

It's Columbus day weekend.

As of the 11 pm update, they think Matthew will be a category three and is turning EAST/Northeast finally instead of west. What that means is that Orlando and WDW will get slightly LOWER winds than before (30-50+ instead of 50-70+) starting up around 2 am and going throughout Friday all day all night until late (11 pm Friday had 20- gusts). It's a slow storm- like less than driving in school zone speed, and it's still bigger than Texas in size and isn't shrinking.
What you have to remember about inland and hurricanes is that it's not like tornados where it just rips off like a band-aid. It wears things down constant like a sandblaster, and that's where the damage happens. Atay inside for the duration- don't break the pressure of your room/house, stay safe, and be smart.
