Give Disney a call and see what they can do for you, 407-WDI-SNEY
How many times has WDW closed for hurricanes before? Was it ever multiple days?
It likely does. The sites are very bogged down right now.I am not sure if this has anything to do with it but certain pages on the https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/ site are down for maintenance or just not available.
Everyone that's there stay safe!
The park hours are still listed normally, but there's an alert that everything closes at 5. A lot of guests are unaware, and transportation to the parks hasn't stopped. We're headed from the studios back to the swan. A group of guests got off the boat to go to the studios. Is there a reason as to why MGM (or Hollywood studios to other people) is open till 6? I was just on My Disney Experience and I thought it was odd that it said that.
!
1) Until now (October-2016), WDW closed 1½-days for hurricanes, on two separate occasions.
. . . one partial day
. . . one full day
2) This year (Matthew), Disney will equal the entire hurricane closing thus far.
. . . one partial day (Thursday, 10/6/16, starting at 5:00pm)
. . . one full day (Friday, 10/7/16, all day)
NOTE:
In all closures, or anticipated hurricane closures, there are VOLUNTEER "Ride Out Crews".
CM's can volunteer (in writing) to stay at WDW and "ride-out" the hurricane.
The Ride-Out period normally is for 72-hours straight, and can be shortened if the weather improves.
Yes, they pay double-time overtime from the start of the Ride-Out (in this case, 5:00pm, 10/6/16).
I have declined every time, and l declined, again, this time.
If the hurricane actually hits the area, I want to be home with family, not working/partying with other CM's at WDW.
Of course, lots of single CM's or those who need the extra money, do kindly volunteer.
Question, what exactly do the Ride Out Crews do? Obviously they stay in the parks during the hurricane but what exactly do they do in the parks?

Hotels...not parks.
They don't station much in the way of personnel in the non active areas for storms...but you're got 30,000 rooms that are filled probably 75% with mostly inexperienced crowds...so it's beneficial to have some prepped staff hanging out.
-and mostly you hang out...so it's really good for the younger staff...because that's what they would do back at apartment anyway.
