ABC News was just reporting from the most expensive gas station in America. California, right? Wrong. Orlando! :scared1: A Suncoast station near the airport hoping to catch tourists that have to fill up rental cars...regular was $5.39, premium was $6.49!!! Craziness...be sure to fill up before getting there!!!

They've been reported countless times and actually lost a previous franchise flag because of the complaints.

Sensationalist Journalism at its best. One gas station doesn't make a market and it's pointless to discuss the impact of gasoline increases based on one station.

Sure, it's unfortunate that this station feels that the market price for gasoline is appropriate at $5.39/gallon but it's more of a buyer beware then a byproduct of the recent run up in gasoline prices.

I saw the news segment. There are 2 gas stations that are apparently tourist traps in Orlando. They are across the street from each other. The prices of the gas are not posted visable to the road, only at the pump. A lot of their customers are filling rental cars before returning to the airport. I will be sure not to give them my money!

My family was burned by that station on our last trip. Luckily (?) it was a business trip for my dad, so the car was on the expense account.

That was one expensive tank of gas! :scared1::scared1:

To avoid this gas station, you can stop at the Seven Eleven near the airport.

From WDW take beachline to exit 8. The 7-11 is on Jetport Road. It is Ez-On and off and close enough that a renatl company will raed your tank as full.

Avoid the suncoast all cost.

Can't see the price from the road? Drive in for a look see. If you don't like it, drive right back out, even if you go out a different way than you came in and would have been stuck at a red light had you not driven in in the first place.

Driving to the airport from Disney, use I-4 East (northeast) and then onto 528 (Beach Line) east. Watch for "exit ramp" to pay the toll if you use cash. Get off 528 at its exit 9 (Tradeport). Left (north) and cross under. Nice cheap gas station right there on your left. Get a receipt. Leaving the gas station keep it at your left as you get into middle lane northbound (may need to take a left depending on which way you came out). Now there's a required right onto McCoy (east), little over a mile is 436 (Semoran). Right to enter airport, left to view the super expensive gas stations.

These stations have been reported about before and there have been plenty of posts on here about them. We just fill up at the Hess station next to the Boardwalk and return the car. The tank is still full and we have never had any problems doing this. We will be doing the same thing in Aug.

We do the same thing. No need to wait till you are close to the airport just fill up before leaving WDW. We've never had a problem.

Thank you for this! Plugging it into my garmin now!

There are also a couple of more stations a little further north from the high priced ones that charge normal prices....... the high priced ones are right across from Hertz.... I pulled in to one of them and pulled a SeashoreCM and drove right back out when I saw the pump........

I don't think the news report was so much about the impact...more about 2 stations price gouging. They ever pointed out that you could get gas for $2 cheaper down the road. I thought it was a fair warning...many of the people they interviewed at the pump hadn't looked at the price, they just assumed it was the same as everywhere else. I expect to pay a bit more near an airport so I probably wouldn't be looking too much at the price...until it was $100 to fill up my car. Anyway...thanks to those who have given other options. Its sad that these two gas stations are getting away with it...and they must be getting business from those who haven't been warned.

I always fill up at the Hess on property before heading to the airport. Their prices are competitive with off property stations. The needle is always still on full when I leave the car at the airport.

If we'd get off foreign oil and change to electric vehicle and hydrogen cars we wouldn't have this problem. Yet the American government continues to want to "DRILL Baby Drill" When will they ever learn? Even drilling here at home won't solve the overall problem that we're past peak oil!!!! Time to go electric and hydrogen!!!! We need to get off our addiction to oil which is killing our planet, and our wallets.

Jacking up the price to bilk tourists should be illegal I'm surprised lawmakers in the area haven't filed a bill to stop that practice. those gas station owners should be arrested.

Although I agree Hydrogen and/or Electric is the ultimate future, we are still so far from this technology being viable to the masses that we need dual stream action; bring more oil resources online and invest in new technology.

There are many ways this could be accomplished, and in my opinion the first would be to slowly increase the gasoline taxes. Use the taxes for grants to new tech organizations that will be the backbone of the new vehicle power sources. This will also decrease demand as higher prices of fuel will change behavior.

In October we had 4 rental cars for our group. We all ran late and no one had time to fill the cars before dropping them off at the airport. We paid Budget's penalty refill rate and I still dont think it was that much!

I always fill up at Hess at WDW also. The gas stations outside the gate are always much higher.

That would be a start. But the longer we remain addicted to oil at home or foreign the worse things will get. We need to at least do more research on electric cars, hydrogen etc, and get a viable electric fleet, and recharging station for the home, and a fairly fast way to recharge cars at say hotels and such and various office complexes, you know - maybe while people at work they could be charging their cars, or say at transportation parking and such and hotel parking etc. They could have charging stations and hydrogen stations along highway exits too at rest stops. Trucks could eventually go electric as well to help get off diesel.

We could also invest in solar power in the desert cities which get almost 80% sun throughout the year, and southern climates

and more wind power in mountains, along coasts, and midwest farms.

I have a different take on this subject. Gasoline prices should not be regulated as "legal" or "illegal", they should be subject to market conditions. As another poster said, if you pull into a gas station and the price is too high, then leave and go to another station. There is too much government regulation.

And, going to electric-powered and hydrogen-powered cars just is not practical for many economic and infrastructure reasons. For the foreseeable future we are going to use gasoline-powered vehicles.
