Oreo Truffles - question for anyone who has made these.

Everyone loved them. There were only a few left and I wanted to take them with me!!! They are very rich. One package of cookies made 40 oreo balls. I dipped half in milk and half in dark chocolate. I already ground up another pack of oreos and put them in ziploc freezer bags to make it easier when I make the next batch. The inside was very moist and we can't wait to make more!! Thanks for the recipe!!!

also, how big do you roll the balls into? :) and how many packages are usually needed? I'm not sure how much is in them

you all are just cruel !!!

I should have read this thread this morning before I went to the store..now we're in the middle of a snowstorm and I"m drooling on my keyboard !

I made these for the first time ever yesterday morning.

They turned out so yummy!!

But mine too are not that pretty. I will have to keep practicing to make them all nice and smooth before handing them out to friends/DH work.

I'll be the first to show a picture of the truffles I made yesturday during the snow storm. They aren't that great looking but taste good. I did half in milk chocolate and the other in white chocolate. I like the white and DH prefers the milk chocolate. DH will be taking them to work on Monday to share with his coworkers. Hope they like them. :goodvibes

Here is a photo of the remaining truffles I have!

I used the same Wilton sprinkles on mine. :) Made the oreo and peanut butter ones for our party last night and they turned out great. The big hit though were the Olive penquins that someone posted ealier on this thread --Thank you OP!! I decided to make them at the last minute and everyone raved about 'em. I didn't have any carrots so I substituted cheddar cheese for the feet and nose

Yikes ! Now I not only need to avoid the boards for the shopping deals because I have spent way more than I should :rotfl: - I need to be careful with the Christmas treats as well ! I thought I was done making treats :rolleyes1 I am going to gain at least 10 lbs if I don't keep the treats out of my sight.

Thanks for the recipe!! :)

I made these as part of my family presents. I have 7 siblings plus my mom, so everyone got 6, leaving a few left for me to sample. :) I made them small on purpose so I'd have enough.

Oh my goodness - these sound gooooood.
I may have to make a batch this week!

Hum.. I will have to try making them. Im in the midst of making peppermint bark and the chocolate/nut candy bark from the food network. I use the milk chocolate morsels from target and they melt just fine and I havent had a issue with my bark. I did buy the ghiardella white chocolate also to use for some of my barks just because it was on sale so I will see which works better.

I must be weird or something but I made the oreo truffles last week and didn't care much for them. They were just too sweet for my taste. On the other hand, my husband took them to the office and they were gone before 10 am! Yep, guess I'm the weird one...:confused3

I'm soo looking forward to making them. I told my DH that I was done at the store but guess not. Thanks for the pics. they look soooooooooooo YUMMY!!!

I've decided that the next batch will be smaller in size.

the size I made first are about a "3 bite" truffle. We've decided that it would be better bite size and you could just pop it in your mouth in one bite.

Another bonus to that would be that there would be more in a batch!

I'm thinking maybe 1/2" ball??? then when you add all the stuff it would be bigger. Or should I make it slightly bigger? I'm going to make some regular ones then try the raspberry flavoring in a few. Then I can make another batch of those if they turn out good. Trying to decide on my toppings..maybe just colored sugar crystals? or powdered sugar, or cocoa?

I made the inside. It is in the fridge chillin'. I might dip them later (not sure if I am in the mood to sample them).

OK I need to ask, does it look like poo? I showed it to my husband & he just made a face & then he tried it & wanted more.

My store doesn't sell "melting chocolate" so I bought Ghiradelli milk choc chips and melted them in the microwave. They seem very thick for dipping. How can I thin my chocolate?

If you are using iron pills it might look like pooh--lol tmi!

Bowever it is less than attractive but tastes wonderful--pretty sure that is why dipping them is necessary!

Add a tablespoon of shortening (Crisco) when you melt the chips. I learned that tip the hard way! :)

Several pages back someone asked about melting chocolate in a crockpot. That's the only way I will melt chocolate. I just throw whatever I'm melting (choc chips, baking chocolate, almond bark, ect) in the crockpot, set it on low, and leave it until I'm ready to use it. It never burns. The nice thing for me is that it stays warm while I'm dipping without needing to reheat it.
