Oreo Truffles - question for anyone who has made these.

So what would be suggested? bakers melting chocolate in a cup or chips?

I bought the Baker's Dipping Chocolate in a cup....it only lasted for about half of the truffles. I went to buy more (different store) and they didn't have it, so I bought milk chocolate chips and Crisco. Melted a cup of chips with 1 TBSP of Crisco in the microwave, and dipped the rest of the truffles in that. It worked fine. The Baker's in a cup is pretty expensive ($2 on sale) compared to a bag of chips which will go further.

I made the inside. It is in the fridge chillin'. I might dip them later (not sure if I am in the mood to sample them).

OK I need to ask, does it look like poo? I showed it to my husband & he just made a face & then he tried it & wanted more.

:lmao::lmao: that's exactly what my DH did too!! :lmao::lmao:

What is almond bark?

Kirsten

Actually, what most people refer to as "almond bark" is just vanilla (or chocolate) flavored candy coating, but the package says, "Make your own ALMOND BARK" in big bold letters so that's what people think it is called!:rotfl: It's found on the baking isle and is very inexpensive. Not exactly "real" chocolate but much easier to work with.

Experienced oreo truffle friends,

Can I use a blender instead of a food processor to crush my cookies? I only have the mini food processor and it will only fit about 4 cookies at a time.

I used a blender when making mine I just took the cream out of the cookies first so it would chop finer. I mixed the cream back in when I mixed in the cream cheese.

I went low-tech and used a zip-lock bag and my rolling pin. All crushed in no time at all!

I used my mini-processor and it worked fine. I just kept dropping them into the bowl through the chute. I had to do them in batches, but it didn't take too long. I don't have a blender, so this was going to have to do!

We made them yesterday and used a blender--we just did them in smaller batches--maybe 6 batches for a bag. That way the blade didn't get clogged up. then we dumped them in the bowl with the cream cheese and did another batch, til the bag was empty:)

I used our mini food processor. I just squeezed in about 6 cookies each time. Didn't take long really. I decided to use it instead of my blender b/c I figured it would be easier to clean afterwards.

I just made these today, yummy! Thanks for the recipe and tips everyone! :)

I used a freezer ziploc bag and a unopened can of soup to crush them! :) I did it in around 4 batches of cookies to not fill the bag too full. Then dumped them all together to mix with the cream cheese after they were crushed.

These were so wonderful as they were that we decided to eat them from the fridge chilled instead of dipping them in chocolate. They were so yummy and rich already that we skipped the last part and they were wonderful! :)

But my daughter, husband and I were the only ones eating them. If I were sharing them at a Christmas gathering or giving as a gift I would dip them to have the extra chocolate and most of all the finished look from the chocolate coating.

Yum! Thanks for the recipe! :)

Shelly :)

Made a batch tonight -
I'm afraid to taste a finished truffle for fear of the odd-number problem!! I'd have to eat another one to make up for it!

While shopping in Wegman's today I came across these: Hershey's Mint Chocolate Chips - YUM-O!!! Guess what I'll be doing with these????

OHhhhhhhhhh I just made these and forgot the vanilla!!! Do you think it will matter. OIY!! or should i throw them back in a mix them up again, i havn't covered them yet. Or could i add it to the chocolate dip?

OHhhhhhhhhh I just made these and forgot the vanilla!!! Do you think it will matter. OIY!!

THe recipe I used is just cream cheese(8oz) and oreos(1 pkg)--no vanilla. It tasted great! I dipped in vanilla candy coating stuff (that you use to make almond bark)

I love making these. They are so easy. I was at Aldi's and my daughter found the candly cane oreo-like cookies. I'm not a big mint girl, but they really do taste like thin mints. I was only going to make 1 batch to give away, but decided to buy another package to give have for home.
Happy Holidays!

thanks, i did try a few, you know to check :rolleyes1. they tasted good. like an oreo I'll add the choc. later I did 3 batches of them. one was a mint oreo, tastes like a thin mint. (again, i had to check) I felt silly in the store with 3 boxes of oreos and cream cheese. I ended up telling the cashier that i wasn't an oreo addict, I was making truffles. :rotfl:

Good evening! I made some the other day and took them into work. I had 4 people ask me for the recipe. I stink at cooking so having 4 people ask for the recipe must say something about how good they are.
For two days before I was melting chocolate for fudge, peppermint/chocolate bark and it was coming out great. 50 oreo balls the next day and 2 bags of chocolate in the trash! I couldn't get it to melt right, clumpy, thick, burnt.
Off to the store and no bowls of melted chocolate to be found so vanilla bark it was and so much easier!

I read that site where the lady bought the dipping fork for $10 and it broke so she ended up using a plastic fork and breaking off a tine (is that what it's called?). I tried that, didn't work so great so used a toothpick and it worked great. Stabbed the ball with one and guided it with a second toothpick and was able to put a curly Q thingy on the top of the ball with the toothpick. One thing I will do differently is to only take out half to do and leave the other half in the refrigerator. I found my last ones were getting warm and starting to break apart easily when dipped.

I made the oreo ones last year and a co worker fondly named them "death balls"! He said the only thing that would make them better would be adding liquor.

Anyone try that? Obvioulsy I would keep them seperate from the general consumption cookies!

What type of liquor would I use? how much?

I don't know how much you'd use, but I've heard of people using: coconut rum, kahlua, raspberry vodka/rum, amaretto, creme de menthe

OK ~ Has anyone tried this yet? I need details!!! How much liquor did you use?
