Orbitz/Expedia/Hotels.com Disney resorts up 7/19/15

Can someone explain to me how this works? So if rack rate is $200, and the Disney offer is 25% off (bringing it to $150), then does Orbitz take their 15% off code off of the rack rate ($30 off) or the discounted Disney rate ($22 off)? Then I assume taxes are added. What are the "fees"? What is the hidden fine print to watch out for? I am new to this. Apologies if this is covered elsewhere. Thanks!
The Orbitz discount is taken after Disney's is already deducted. So in your example, an Orbitz 15% off code would be taken off of $150.

Usually, there are no fees to book with Orbitz. I believe there are zero fees with their Disney bookings.

The major thing to watch for: If you book online, Orbitz will charge you extra for children! So don't. Book 1-2 adults. After you book, call Orbitz, and explain Disney's policy of no charge for children. Reps who know what they are doing will call Disney for you and add the children for free. If the person on the phone gives you a hard time, ask for someone else! This procedure has worked for me, and at least several other posters on the DIS.

Remember that you can only book room-only. No packages, so no dining plan. With Orbitz you must pay in full at the time of booking. You can cancel for a full refund.

What if I'm booking an 3 adults and one child through ORbitz. Two parents with an 18 year old 15 year old. Should I still book 2 adults and call to add the 18 and 15 year old. Does Disney charge extra for an 18 year old?

Anyone know of a discount with orbitz greater than 10% right now.

I'm tempted to change my room only to an orbitz reservation. Is there any reason not to do this. Will it affect my dining or ability to book FP+?

So much has changed sine I was at Disney just a few years ago.

18 year olds do cost extra, unfortunately. I don't know how much.

Your ADRs will remain intact. Your access to FP+ will be the same, but you'll have to start those from scratch.

Thank you! That is extremely helpful.

According to Mousesavers, when you book direct with Disney an extra adult (18 and over) is $10 at POP and $25 at WL per night, so I guess it varies.

I tried Orbitz with 3 adults and it cost me more than Disney did with 3 Adults 1 child? Oh well.

Review15 may get you a 15% discount. Worth a try :)

Says it's not a valid code. Thanks for trying...

Two questions...
1. If I book thru orbitz and a better prices comes out between now and then do they honor the better price?

2. My dates are march 27 thru April 3. The current discount only goes thru march 31. Should I book march 27-31 now and then the rest later??? Any advice on this would be great!

I believe you'd have to cancel the original Orbitz reservation (free cancellation) and then re-book at the better price, but I'm not entirely sure. Maybe someone who has done this in the past can chime in.

Your dates are similar to mine. I'm going to wait to book my whole trip together when the promo goes past March 31. Just to keep things less complicated. I used Orbitz/CT last Easter and it really worked like a charm. I was so happy to get a deal since Disney blacked it out.

Interesting. I bet it would be cheaper to book just two adults, then call to add the third adult and the one child.

booking for Jan- new disney discounts out for a value are still 40.00 cheaper than the Orbitz with the 10% code (room only) it's a dis visa thing ,think it goes public in a day or so:confused3

Correct. I'm not sure how long it will take for the Disney discounts to make their way into Orbitz prices. I suspect it will not be at the exact moment the discounts are released to the public.

I don't think there's any reliable science to go by with this.

hmmm,so it pays to keep checking...maybe next week something will show up

That wouldn't work - the extra adult actually does incur an upcharge, so Disney wouldn't add them without the extra payment. You could book with three adults, then call to add the child; that would work.

Orbitz's rates are typically the same as Disney's discounted rates, but for some bizarre reason every once in a while they aren't. You can't assume they'll be the same; you have to check.

I've seen situations where every resort has the same exact (discounted) rates on Orbitz & Disney, but one resort has higher rates on Orbitz and another has one room type higher on Disney. Why? I'm going to assume it's a delay between synchronizing their databases.

I probably is but Who do I call to do that Disney or Orbitz?
It's supposed to be Orbitz, but some people have called Disney and gotten a CM willing to make the change directly.

Me personally- I actually had success using the Orbitz online chat feature.

You call Orbitz. They are the travel agent of record, so they have to request changes to the booking. Some folks have had good results using the chat feature to do the request, and I think if you rummage around in their support database you can find an email address, but the bulk of folks seem to do it on the phone.

The frustrating part is when you get someone who doesn't understand the problem and tells you that you have to cancel and rebook. In those cases, you should just say thanks, hang up and call back.
