Orange County deputies on WDW property

In the 20+ years I've been coming to WDW I hardly ever saw an Orange County patrol car on Disney property. Over the past 3 months I have been on Disney property 4 times and each time seen several motorists pulled over by Orange County deputies. In fact last Saturday along Osceola Parkway saw two cars pulled over and a third patrol car with lights on heading down Osceola.

I know Orlando and surrounding area is well known for its red light/stop sign running and aggressive driving, just wondering if anyone knew of a crackdown by Disney/Orange County on bad driving inside WDW driving.

I know in the future when I drive on Disney property I will not be making any questionable driving moves using the assumption no one will pull me over.

When we were down there in Dec 2004, I recall seeing quite a few cars pulled over by OC Deputies on-site. It was along the main traffic artery heading to the MK and it looked like the likely offense they were targeting was speeding.

We were in Downtown Disney in Nov 2005, and my brother, who is an avid photographer, was taking loads of pictures of the scenery and buildings while all of the women shopped. (This was in the evening, around 9 pm). Turns out he had an undercover Disney person following him, they called in the Orange County sheriff, and it was a big to-do, all because he was taking pictures. Everything got smoothed out when he was able to convince them he was indeed just a tourist and not some psycho scoping out the buildings. They did run his drivers license though. It was funny, because he looks like such a tourist, with his Mickey shirt, flip-flops, camera, he's blond-hair and blue-eyed. Just goes to show they are definitely looking at your actions and not what you look like....

There has been a real problem with people driving at excessive speed on Disney property, some tourists, some CM's. A few years ago, there were tons of accidents on property. About two years ago, I started noticing an increased presence of non-Disney law enforcement patrolling the roads, and I don't hear nearly as many Disney accidents on the traffic reports. It's really common sense to drive the speed limit at Disney, where many people are preoccupied with trying to find their way around and may stop or change lanes without notice.

Tyler posted a while back that the managment at WDW let the CMs know that they had asked the Orange and Osceola counties to patrol for speeders....

(IMHO, speedings not as big an issue as the sudden turn from the left lane. Here's a hint, TURN around!!! Don't suddenly try to shoot across three lanes of traffic to your exit, don't worry it's Disney they don't want you to leave, they have signs guiding you BACK! LOL!)

Orange County even has a sheriffs station in WDW, over by the fire station near Downtown Disney. WDW contracts with the county to have permanent assigned deputies. I've even seen the Florida Highway Patrol doing radar on Disney roads.

When my family and I were at WDW in December 2006 I noticed the Orange Country deputies were out a lot more in the mornings and evening, because those were the peak times my family and I saw cars that got pulled over. The odd time we saw this during the afternoon but not as much as the morning and evening.

Indeed, Orange Country does patrol Disney roads, so PLEASE obey all speed limits. Although they do patrol 24 hours a day, the peak radar traps are during shift change times.

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that a lot of the deputies watch out for speeding cars either by the Magic Kingdom gates or just past them in that parking lot area before the Wilderness Lodge? Those are the only places that I remember seeing them the most.

I see them on Western Way and Osceola Parkway almost every time I drive through there.

We are here now staying at OKW and took a double take as the Orange County Sheriffs were actually patrolling the various parking areas near the villas last night. It made me nervous as it made me think they were looking for something or someone. In over 12 years I have never saw them here in the villa parking lots before.

Western Way and World Drive just before WL are popular speed trap spots (35mph) as well as Ocseola Parkway between Buena Vista Dr and World Drive (45mph there). A lot of people just drive much faster than that.

Here is a hint. If you see a Disney bus, just stay behind it, don't pass it. We are usually doing the speed limit or just a little bit under it.
