Oprah's 12wk Boot camp??

I hadn't been on the Wishboards in a while so I though I would check it out today. How happy am I that I did???!!! I joined Oprah's boot camp weeks ago....I am so excited that I can share this with my fellow Disers, too!
Today is day 2 of week 3 for me and I have lost 4 pounds. I read Bob's book and have been following it to the letter. I really enjoy the weightlifting...who knew? :flower:
I have eliminated all white stuff from my diet, but am allowing myself a serving of whole grains per day. I have been losing weight since June of 2003 and have lost 188 pounds. I currently weigh 152 pounds and I am 5'6. My original goal was to be 145. I am wondering if I should try for 140...I am not sure. Any opinions??
Good luck to everyone! I hope to check in daily with this thread!

TinkerChelle - I have always heard as a general rule of thumb, to give yourself 100 pounds for the 1st 5 feet & then 5 pounds an inch over 5 feet. So, for 5'6" you could go as low as 130 pounds. I would imagine that body type & age would factor into that. I say GO FOR 140! :goodvibes My goodness - did you say you have lost 188 pounds - THAT IS AWESOME!

After almost 2 weeks of Oprah's Boot camp...I guess it has been a full two weeks! Time FLIES!!! I've lost 5 pounds total!!! 1.5 the first week and 3.5 this week! I can really tell the consistent exercising is helping...it makes me crave water and I can fell my body getting stronger...

I do exercise tapes 4 days a week (CardioPilates, Pilates, Denise Austin's Burn the last 10 pounds away (45 minutes), and 4miler WATP) then on 2 days I walk 4 miles outside which takes me 1 hour and 10 minutes or so..I also do 4 of Oprah's favorite weight strengthening exercises on each of those 6 days...and my rest day...I REST!!! :)

Drink your water gals...this 12 week Boot camp will be showing some GREAT results over the next 2-4 weeks...just think how we'll feel/look at the end of 12 weeks!! :)

I'm checking in. People are telling me they can't believe how "skinny" I look and that I'm "melting" right before their eyes and these are people I see everyday at work! I won't weigh until tomorrow but I'm not hopeful of that evil scale being cooperative. I guess I'll have to settle for how my clothes are fitting on me. I am doing a bit of shopping tonight and I'm hoping to fit into a size 10, we'll see. I do have one pair of size 10 jeans from JC Penney's but I haven't been able to get into 10's in anything else. I'll see tonight or tomorrow at the latest and report back.

I'm OP with my eating but boy is it hard to go with out the whole grains. I already low carb (South Beach) but we can have the grains and I miss them. One more week and a few days to go and then I'll be able to add them back again.

It's amazing (and strangely comforting) to me that so many of us are working out so hard, eating clean and still not seeing dramatic results on Oprah's program the longer we do the challenge. I wonder if it's muscle we're building that weighs heavier on the scale. We all seem to reporting our clothes are much looser. What do you guys think?

Welcome and a big congratulations to TinkerChelle. I think you are the biggest loser on our board!!! You have to be so proud of yourself for such a dramatic weight loss. Wow! I say go for the weight that you feel comfortable with. I'm a lot shorter than you but plan to stop at around 150 pounds (I'm 181.5 pounds right now). I already wear size 12's and want to get down to a size 10 or 8 and then I'm done. I decided to wait and see how I feel when I get there and then decide. Isn't shopping for new clothes a blast compared to shopping in large size ladies stores?

panfan - Woohoo!! Congrats to you on losing those 5 pounds!

Shelia - Let's have a size 10 party when we both can wear them. I'm sure by the end of the challenge we will, if not size 8's!

Tara - what a great job you've done! A 5 pound loss is awesome!!!

I just wanted to reply to you Lisa.....regariding all the excercise/muscle gain etc and scale not moving fast enough. I read Bob's book and he explains why this happens. I have to leave for work now but when I have time I'll post what he says about it. Something about when you are working out your muscles so hard...they actually retain the water for a while resulting in "holding" weight. He goes on to promise this is a temporary situation etc. Tonite when I get home I'll try to find it exactally in the book! Don't worry ...you are doing great!! As always!

Have a great day everyone and stay healthy! :goodvibes

Spoisal: Yes...I actually lost 188 pounds and counting. I can't believe it myself sometimes. I weighed 340 pounds in June of 2003. I was a size Women's 32 and now I am a regular size 10 (except dresses...I am a regular size 12....is it like that for everyone or is that just me??LOL) I had been a plus size all my life...I never even knew there was a difference between a 16 and a Women's 16!
ZerasPride: Shopping is a whole new world. I am 33 years old and I act like I am a teenager.....clothes are so much fun now! I tried on a pair of shorts yesterday that were a size 8 and I could zip and button them, but sitting down was a little uncomfortable....just a few more pounds to go, though! :goodvibes This boot camp has been more beneficial than I had anticipated. I was hoping to lose the last pounds I wanted to lose to reach my goal (145-140 ish...I guess...I can't decide) but, I hadn't counted on feeling so powerful and strong from the weight training exercises. I feel empowered by them. I know I have only been doing them a few weeks, but gosh it really has changed my attitude and strength.
Keep up the good work everybody! Remember Nothing Tastes as Good as Being Thin Feels!

TinkerChelle ~ WOW!!! I am inspired by you! You go girl!!! :cool1:

Lisa, I've incoporated some whole grains back into my diet because I can't live without them. I'm limiting them though. I'm also starting to count calories and I hope that helps. I'm still following the boot camp as far as the exercise goes. How tall are you? You weight 30 lbs more than me and I'm still in a 12. You must be all muscle. ;) If I didn't have a fat tummy, I would fit into a size 10 now. Yes, we'll be having a party when we finally fit into those 10's! I'm going for a size 8 in the end.

Panfan, I need to read Bob Greene's book because not losing is really ticking me off. LOL Thanks for the info and please post it as soon as you can. I am waiting! ;)

It has to be muscle!!!! At least that is what my doc says! I did have a 5.5 loss in 2 weeks on the Doctors scale.... Today I had someone on the street comment on hoe good I look and i had a big heavy coat on! YAY!!! :cool1:

We're doing it girls! We have to keep the faith! :cheer2:

Wow! That's fantastic!!! I'm going to the doctor on Tues. and I can't wait to see what he says about me not losing. I plan on showing him my workout schedule and diet and hopefully, he'll have some input.

Lisa, I bet you are looking good!!! Are you ready to post some more pictures? :flower:

hi Guys, I am really glad about the mucsle and water retention because I still have not lost this week but I have been working my butt off... and my 10's look pretty darn good if I do say so myself... :cool1:

I have a huge problem now.... I am addicted to shopping things are so much cuter in a size 10.

I can't believe how much you guys posts sound like I could have written them!

TinkerChelle - reading your post made me want to cry out of happiness for you! What a fantastic job you have done! I am so inspired to get to goal by reading your posts. I hope I never get tired of the feeling I get when I walk into a regular sized clothing store and know the clothes will fit. Like you, I have been heavy my entire life. I have pics of me at 2 years old with my chubby cheeks and fat thighs looking like a little "cute" but rollie pollie thing. I don't recall ever in my adult life shopping anywhere (from the age of 16 actually) but Lane Bryant. At my heaviest I wore a size 26 jeans (still have them in my closet as a reminder). I can't tell you how great it feels to slip into my size 12 slacks, well, I don't have to tell you, you already know! Keep up the great work and you are so right about the strength training. It does make you feel powerful!!!

panfan - thanks so much for the validation of what I was thinking. I'm going to ease up a bit on the strength training (with the heavy weights) and concentrate more on cardio next week (with light weights) and see if that helps the scale move any.

Shelia - you are a bad influence on me! I want to add back the whole grains early so badly but I'm going to try to hang in there. I have developed a stubborn streak and just want to know if I can make it the entire month. I don't know what's killing me more, no whole grains or the no sugar free treats for 100 days challenge I'm on. Why do I get myself into thse situations! I'm just being a whiner. I know why, challenges give you something to reach for and help you get over the hurdles when the scale isn't cooperating. Anyway, thanks for your support. Oh, I'm about 5'1" tall. I can't believe I wear a 12 at this weight to tell you the truth. I have been working out intensely the entire time I have been on South Beach. I'm big boned and I'm very muscular so maybe that's why we're the same size. I think my eventual goal will be an 8 as well but I don't want to have to struggle to stay that size. I'm sure I can maintain a 10, so we'll just see. The possibilities are truly endless for us!

Lisa - I know what you mean about clothes shopping. I bought 2 pair of stretch dress slacks from New York and Company. They are nothing special but it's amazing how cute slacks are when they are not size 26!

Sarahsmom - you can't beat those compliments, now can you? Let's keep up the great work! Your loss is fantastic!

I think a big key to all of our success is the motivation of this place! I am doing so much better than when I am on my own... Nobody judges, it is pure support!!! AS the inches fall I know I am so much more motivated. as my clothes get more loose the more excited I get!!! It's working! It's working!!!!

BTW ~ My Doc told me last week that our bodies fight weight loss more in the winter as it thinks it needs the fat to stay warm.. She told me she thinks it will get easier for me when it gets warmer!!! :sunny: And yet another reason to look forward to spring! :cool1:

WTG Ladies!!!! We are doing great! :cheer2:

Hi everyone!! I got on the scales this morning and I'm finally down 2 lbs!! I'm so excited to FINALLY see the scale move. I also lost another 1/2 inch. So, since I began the boot camp, I've lost 3 1/2 lbs and 2 1/4 inches (in 1.5 weeks). Not too shabby! I was looking at my measurement/weight journal last night and I'm doing much better this year than I did last year. I'm exercising a lot more so I think that is the key.

Lisa, I hear you girlfriend! I'd love to be a size 8, but don't know if I can maintain it. Like you, I'm not a small boned person. When I was in high school, I was a cheerleader and worked out religiously and still weighed 125-130 (size 7/8). I've never been a size 5/6. My doctor thinks that a healthy weight on me now will be 140. I have 15 lbs to go!

BTW, notice my new clippie! Thanks everyone for all of your motivation and encouragement!

I'm so excited to read all these happy posts with wonderful results!! I agree, I think that the kind and supportive spirit to be found on WISH has helped so many people to stay on track -- myself definitely included. Yay WISH!!

As for me, yesterday was my DF-i-L's 70th birthday celebration. I doubled up on workouts in the days before so that I would be able to afford two days off this past week, and I stayed totally OP except for a slice of the birthday cake, which is the most fabulous creation known to baking science. I don't mean to make too much of this point, but this cake recipe has been in my DH's family for over 100 years, and it takes so long to make that it is only done on the most special of special family occasions. I had already decided that if there was ever a reason for a treat, this was it, and I wasn't even going to think twice about having a slice.

So, I did, I enjoyed it beyond tremendously, and today it's back to reality. I worked out to a Pilates DVD today and noticed, while I was gasping through some of the harder movements, that my muscles seem to be getting firmer, which is pretty awesome after just a week!

Today will be my first real weigh-in, but this morning, the scale told me that I'd lost a pound from yesterday morning, so that's cool!

:sunny:

Here's my update. At the end of three weeks on Oprah's challenge I have lost 7 pounds! I am wearing a solid size 12 and even managed to squeeze my butt into a size 8 stretch jeans at JC Penney yesterday. I'm not an 8 but for some reason I can wear smaller sized jeans in the crazy horse brand at JC Penney so that was very exciting.

Shelia - what a beautiful clippie you are wearing there! Congratuatlins on losing 50 pounds!!!!!!! I'm so proud of you. This challenge is wonderful isn't it?

Here we go onto week 4. I can't believe I've gone almost a month without whole grains. I'm amazed at myself frankly because I didn't think I could do it!

Hello everyone - I did originally sign up however after investigating further I realised that I could not follow her food plan, no carbs, no way, I've been on WW since Jan. 04, I can do the 8 a week workouts, but no way on the 7:00 pm cut off since many nights it is after that that we have supper ---- it is a great incentive, but definately not practible. I've lost 37 lbs in the past 1 1/2 years, and now have added exercise and boy oh boy can you see the diff.

Panfan: Can you tell me more about what Bob Greene says in his book? I want to get his book, but it looks like he has several - i'm not sure which one to get.

I am so discouraged this week! I did not lose a thing in week 2! Very disappointing after such a strong start in week 1 (7.5 pounds). I haven't cheated at all - no whites or whole grains, no alcohol. I am sticking to about 1300 calories a day & did my 8 work-outs. It has been a lot of work & then to see no results on the scale. Boo Hoo!

I seem to have leveled out and havn't been able to loose any weight lately. I have been really sick in bed for the past three days (only eating whole wheat toast with tea) but I think this would be great to do. Hard when you are a vegetarian to cut out carbs but I can do anything for 12 weeks right? As long as I don't feel dizzy tomorrow I will start! Congrats to everyone on their great losses and sticking with this. You should be very proud!
