Oprah today

I enjoy Oprah and I applaud her generosity but I don't understand why a women who is always encouraging women to love themselves as they are, is so fixated on her weight.

Thats what I am thinking. She has issues with her weight....who doesn't? But she makes it an issue by going out there and telling us each time she loses and gains. I can do without a show telling me she gained weight. I can watch the show and see for myself.

Proves money can't always buy happiness. I think that she should just stop focusing so much on her weight, making it such a big issue. Sure, being overweight if not healthy but neither is yo-yo dieting.

Exactly. Being healthy doesn't mean doing every fad diet everytime you gain some weight.

I do believe it brings it into perspective for a lot of us trying to lose weight. If Oprah has a hard time doing it with all her money, chefs and personal trainers, she is really no different than the rest of us.

I do wish she wouldn't lie so much though. Sure we all fudge how much we weigh, but really, when she says she is as her biggest and is on the cover of a magazine, don't say you are 200lbs when you are clearly more than that. Just don't say anything at all.

She always seems to think she FIGURED out the reason she did something. I am so sick of her analyzing her life and ours on TV. Just get on with it already.

As a high school teacher, Oprah has always reminded me of a narcissistic teen girl who falls for every fad and fraud that comes down the pike. She's all Ugg boots and Coach bags. There's just nothing genuine about her. She's in a perpetual state of pimply adolescence, anxiously awaiting Cosmo's January issue with the annual horoscope insert so she can see how her year's gonna go and if it will bring her true love, a great new BFF, and skinny thighs. Grow up, Oprah. Adolescence is really unattractive in a 50-year-old woman.

:rotfl2: :lmao:

I've been so over Oprah for so long, back when she was her original Fat self

I don't understand the appeal of Oprah at all. I find her extremely phony.

She is fixated on her weight because her whole business is fixated on weight. You can NOT, by any means, be a celebrity and not have the world watching your waistline. Folks on here and all around flame celebrities for being too thin and then are joyous when they gain a few pounds and end up on the cover of The Enquirer. If those women aren't perfect and thin, they cannot get jobs, even if they are amazing actresses. And yes, there are a few who have decent careers and are overweight. But there are only a few and they are not in the top of the earning chart in Hollywood. Magazines have used Oprah's weight for years as fodder to sell their rags. Can you imagine how much self esteem you'd have if every single day people were picking you apart? yeah, yeah, it comes with the territory. They're rich, they deserve it. Having people nitpick your every flaw is gut wrenching but for many folks it's a sport. I don't believe anyone deserves to get treated that way no matter what they do for a living. Let them entertain you, that's their job. If you don't like what they do then turn the channel.

I know someone very well with hypo?thyroid (under active). I have found with this person (NOT SAYING WITH ALL!!!), that this seems to give them a reason to eat all the wrong foods, eat late at night, overeat, etc and then blame the weight on their thyroid. This person I know also has had all the yoyo-ing that Oprah has had.

No point just an observation.

Proves money can't always buy happiness.

you are so right.... but I would rather be rich and miserable than poor and miserable popcorn:: ....and as for "O"......the only time I watch her anymore is when Dr. Oz is on. I like him and drink his green drink every day:thumbsup2

IMO you can only find issues to talk about for so long....that's a lot of years to come up with interesting stuff and not repeat it.

Same with Dr. Phil...liked him for the first year maybe 2 than that was it. His HEAD grew 5 sizes in the first 2 years and to me it seemed to start being about how good he is(me me me) instead of the people he was helping. His topics started getting to far fetched for me.

now if ya really wanna get me started make a thread about the woman on the "view" :rotfl:

Didnt see the show...But is she REALLY blaming her weight issues on Hypothroidism????

If so, Not for one minute, do I believe that after alllllllllll these years with her yoyo dieting, all her $, and all her DR guests...she NEVER had a simple Tyroid test!!!!!:headache:

I still like Oprah....;) I think she is way out of touch, but whatever.

I think Dr. Oz made her fat. If I toss in my 2 cents, it was like his "nutrition facts" gave her a license to overeat.

You totally hit the nail on the head!

I hardly watch her show. Seems like every time it's on, it's about Jennifer Aniston or a doctor talking about private parts. BORING!

Oh I definitely agree with that. Annoying when she does it, just like Kirstie Alley trying to pretend her max was, what, 220? Those women are TALL (er, well, maybe just average American woman height, but to me they are TALL). They are tall and have been big. I'm 5'3" and while pg I gained 60 lbs over my wedding weight (which was still too high, though pilates made me look smaller than I weighed) and hit 222, and those two are much taller than me and WAY bigger than I was at that point...

Even a taller thin person tends to weigh more than a shorter person...had a college roommate who was a rail...she was on Crew with me, but she was so skinny. She was 6 feet tall and weighed 190, and she was skinny!

So even though I don't mind Oprah having a show about having gained weight (I feel better being around my friends when I let them know that I know I'm heavier than I should be...yeah we all know it but it feels better to state it), and I know what it's like to know all of the things you need to be doing but NOT do those things...I do wish she'd be a bit more real about her actual weight.

The things that turned me off her

1. She stopped doing interesting shows and started interviewing famous people
2. The Book Club :confused3 just don't get it
3. When she got her panties in a twist over not being allowed to shop while a store was CLOSED
4. Her favorite things

Of recent years, I have begun to find her annoying.

"Love yourself"..well OK, so love yourself fat or skinny.

I have an issue with hugely wealthy people who, while they do a significant amount for charity, still keep HUGE amounts of wealth...more than they will ever need to live...for themselves. I have this problem with many of the hugely celebrities, not just Oprah.

I don't like that she seems to have appointed herself the "guru" for our society...if Oprah says it, we must do it.

You know what? Oprah's been "heavier" more than she's been thinner for most of her career, and she's done OK.
And, quite frankly, if I had $50 bazillion, my self-esteem would be just fine thanks. Let all the skinny chicks laugh at me...they're my staff.;)

Her issue isn't anything other than self-esteem. She needs to eat right and do a normal amount of regular exercise and her weight will regulate itself to where it is supposed to be and that number may be higher than Oprah wants, but that will be life. My weight has been the same for probably the last 15 years..it's more than I want to weigh, but it's my weight. I have been a "big" girl all my life. When I was younger, I was thinner than I am now, but I have always been big. 5'8" tall, big shoulders, big chest. As a nurse, when a patient needs to be lifted, moved or whatever, I am always the person they come and get because I am big and strong. Never was, and never will be, the cute petite delicate little flower who can't reach things on the high shelves and can't do too much physical work because I am so delicate. I have always been the "zaftig" woman...strong girl, pull plow.

And I do change the channel.

I lost all respect for Oprah when she opened that school for girls in Africa and then proceeded to do a 1hr Primetime special about it.

Her intentions were very good but the publicity of it turned me off.

I'm so over Oprah.
Give me a quick dance at 10 am and a meaningless laugh with Ellen anyday! :thumbsup2

Plus she looks good (darn good!) and goes to the gym/does yoga.

Why can't she just look in the mirror and say "This is me!":confused3 Overweight people can be healthy and look nice. I don't see why she makes such a big deal out of this.

I agree and I actually think Oprah looks fabulous even at her heavier weight. But the gist I got from the show is that, on top of being heavier than she'd like, she was just not feeling well at all. Some people do not tolerate carrying that weight around and it makes their joints ache, they feel tired and sluggish. Additionally, some of the foods she has been gorging on probably made her feel bad too.
