Oprah's mission seems to be to create a divide between men and women.

Her and Dr. Robin seem to have no clue on why young women would do what makes them happy. No... that couldn't be it... must be the man controlled machine pulling the strings. Oprah has indeed lost it. :rolleyes1

And BTW: how is it that she can play these vidoes with FCC banned words on them but when other shows dicuss what was said on her show, they have to bleep those words. Is Oprah above the FCC? :confused3

I don't watch her...in what part does she blame men?

Why is it Oprah's fault if the FCC doesn't harass her like they shouldn't be doing to Howard Stern?

And OK, let's hear your theory as to why girls today are behaving these days. I have a daughter in college, and I see how it is.

I watched the show with DH and thought it was very interesting and a little bit sad to be honest because even though they took the extremist angle there was quite a bit of truth to what they were talking about.

I enjoyed Pink's thoughts on the subject.

I saw that show, because I like PINK, so I had to watch. I didn't get that from the show at all.:confused3
In fact it was pretty dead on. Women are objectified in music and play dumb to make themselves appear more personable. It is an act.
Some girls model the "act", believing that these celebs actually like being this way. Basically they are being duped...nothing new really.
Same ole' ho-hum stuff.

Now I will agree Oprah has lost it. That I won't argue with you.:rotfl:

I am going to admit I watched yesterday's show with Bill & Melinda Gates. Part 2 is today.
My kids watched with me. Good show. That is the one you should be talking about!!!!::yes::

Stupid Girls...
Dr. Robin Responds....
Teens obsessed with makeup, clothes and plastic surgery. What's happening to girls?

My guess is they are watching Oprah :lmao:

And is it me, or does "Dr. Robin" look anorexic (sp?). I know some women are naturaly thin, but she often looks ill when she's on the show. Sounds like she might need to take a page from her own book!

All in all, I think that episode did have some great insight, and I loved what Pink had to say about being yourself!

And I agree, the two parter about the state our our public education system in this country is what needs to be talked about!!!

I'm not sure the link references what you're talking about. They specifically said in the text that it ISN'T just men pulling the strings, that women are exploiting other women and themselves today.

I don't get where Oprah is perpetuating the gender divide here!

It was Dr. Robin who made most of the "man controlled machine" comments, but there was Oprah agreeing everytime Robin took a breath.

The women who were talked about, or gave interviews, were in control and happy and it appears some women can't accept that. The men must be doing something wrong. :rolleyes1

And the Pink part might as well have been another show. Good messages there, nothing about not being the puppets of the grand male machine.

BTW: They also talked about how girls are playing dumb. Whose stats are those? The test scores for girls are higher in the majority of shcools and there are more women actually taking college classes than men (the men enroll, but stats show more women in classes).

Ah - yes, nothing about a 'man controlled machine' in the texts. Interesting.

I do think girls play dumb. Precisely because test scores for girls ARE high yet if you see teen girls around a large part of the time you'll see them acting like fools to impress boys, friends, etc. I of course am only speaking on personal observation - I have 2 cousins, aged 17 and 15, who are in the top of their classes, on track for Ivy League schools, brilliant and insighful girls. Yet they talk like old school 'valley girls', act like idiots around boys, and generally bend over backwards to hide their intelligence. I don't know if they think it will intimidate them or what but it makes me very sad.

it depends. Girls dumbing themselves down is just a fact, it happens, they're usually responsible for it themselves. But if you've seen one Usher or 50 cent video you must have at least thought of some description like "man controlled machine." Geez.

I don't know about test scores ( I do know that an alarming number of boys and girls are not being educated very well, despite some high achievers), but I think it's alarming how many girls at DD's school act like this.

It makes them do some very dumb and dangerous things, sexually especially.

Yeah, just the fact that girls like the insults hurled at them in some of those songs.

I haven't watched the clips on the site but Dr. Robin was going off and using that wording or something very similar. If I got the exact quote wrong then I am not off by much. And like I said, Oprah was piping in with agreement like that cartoon where the little dog fawns over the big dog.

Girls playing dumb has nothing to do with test scores or how they perform in school.
Girls act dumb because they think it impresses boys. Like it or not a bimbo gets more initial attention than a brainy girl. Young women see the ditzy girl get more attention in their lives and also in the media (celebs like Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton, etc...) and they think that's how they are supposed to act.

As far as the man controlled machine, in the industry it has been one for a very long time. Now women are doing it themselves because it's gone on so long that it's become status quo but men are far from innocent bystanders in the objectification of women.

A good amount of time was spent ripping on the people who run, or appear on, the Girls Gone Wild series. Which was the parts that Oprah should be nailed by the FCC for if the FCC has any credability and not just a case by case tool for somebody else in government, but I digress... These women didn't do anything they didn't want to yet it's the "male machine".

Is it really jealousy over the others looks? Upset that these women have control and they don't? I don't know, but it sure he looked like a new female version of the he-man woman haters club.

I don't think Oprah ripped on the GGW series that much. I think it was more the pride in winning the best thong show and the fact the girls are not paid and are almost being taken advantage of. Like "hey here's a drunk hot girl. let's see if she'll make out with someone if I shove a camera in her face and hope she doesn't care when she sobers up".

When you allow yourself to be treated like a piece of meat by the people making money off of your actions you are not in control.

.

Oh sure, they did it for their own amusement. Of course not, they did for men. And what does that say about the kind of girl who does that stuff to get the attention of men. We used to call them strippers and call girls. Now we call them sorority sisters.

I saw a news report about those girls and it said the girls are usually drunk when they do it, and drinking is another huge problem. DD said she really got tired of the girls in her dorm freshman year waking up and laughing about not remember what they'd done the night before or just not waking up in the dorms at all, ever, Saturday morning (a different guy every week). I wish I was exagerating. One girls everyone would go searching for ever Saturday morning because was having such sever "black outs".

What Crankyshank said. Those girls may be doing what makes them happy, or may be cheapening themselves after too much tequila, we don't know - that's one issue. The second issue is that the industry people are happily exploiting all of them.
