I don't see this as a liberal or conservative issue. I can't believe anyone would defend these criminals and not want to see ALL elected officials (regardless of political affiliation) do what's right and get these communities safe for everyone. I'm not saying that you personally defend criminals, but a failure to hold those who are in charge accountable is the problem and why crime is rising.

Believe me, it's headed to a town near you and probably sooner than you think.

I didn't get that (I know, big surprise). To me the author was talking about corruption - and that goes to both parties. In this case, the majority would be liberals only because it is an inner city, not because someone who is liberal is more inclined to be corrupt. People are people, no matter what their views. But for the Grace of God go I...

I believe some of the people "looting" a few items of clothing were doing so because their own clothes were ruined/soiled from the flood waters, they didn't have shoes - or were simply dirty from days without bathing. I'm not talking about the guy I saw on TV with a shopping cart full of clothes or lugging a bunch of stereo equipment, but the person who desperately needed a change of clothing or shoes on their feet - or the feet of their family members.

I'm not excusing the individuals or thugs who used this horrible disaster for a personal shopping spree. They were probably criminals to begin with. Then there are those who could have been off their meds and quite possibly could have been paranoid, thus shooting at people they thought were out to get them. I really believe most victims acted appropriately - they were scared, desperate, heartbroken, stunned, and probably not feeling very well due to the conditions.

Unfortunately, the criminal actions of some reflect badly on many, and as a result some lump all the poor into the category of thugs and looters.
