Thinking of getting a Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 for my Nikon D70- any feedback on this lens or similar would be greatly appreciated. If you use this lens I would love to see some examples! Thanks.

Don't have this lens but I really want it.

I just got this lens (for Canon) a couple of days ago. hopefully if the weather is good I'll get some pictures this weekend.
looking through the viewfinder I stood right at the bumper of my mustang and could see the entire car and half of the garage.

can't wait to take some pics of Mickeys sorcerer hat at mgm.

I also would love to see some pictures taken with this lens.

oh, btw, unlike the Canon 10-22 mm it does come with a hood.

Saw your post on dpreview, also, and hopefully those responses have been beneficial. I have the lens, along with all my new Nikon gear, and hope to do some test shooting later this afternoon, so I may be able to weigh in on this for you, once that is done. I have four lenses, total, and am particularly interested in seeing how the common focal lengths compare:

18mm: 18-135mm Nikkor vs 10-20mm Sigma

50mm: 18-135mm Nikkor vs 50mm Nikkor

70mm: 18-135mm Nikkor vs 70-300VR Nikkor

135mm: 18-135mm Nikkor vs 70-300VR Nikkor

Anyone have an opinion about the canon version being worth the extra money or not? Its faster (3.5-4.5 vs 4-5.6) and 2mm longer (22 vs 20) but it is roughly $240 more expensive and doesn't come with a hood.

Is it that better optically?

This lens come up in topic a lot over at nikonians. Along with the Tokina 12-24 and Nikkor 12-24. This Sigma gets a lot of great reviews. I've seen some great pictures taken with this lens and it is definately near the top of my list of lenses to purchase. Its matches up pretty well with the Nikkor and for the price difference (1/2 the cost) its well worth it.

Thanks all - I ordered it today. Should have it for my stay at AKL next weekend. :goodvibes

I don't know if it is optically or mechanically better but the 10-22 is very sharp and is built well. It would probably be a L series if it weren't a EF-S. The extra 1/2 stop isn't worth much and the 2 mm probably isn't either. It focuses quickly and quietly.
The Canon name on it is obviously worth at least $240. ;) Right... :)

The hood for my 24-105 fits the 10-22 and doesn't vignette at all. I bought the recommended big, ugly hood and have no use for it (will probably sell it on eBay).

Overall I am very pleased with this lens and consider it worth the $$$.

I haven't used any other UWA but I love my Canon 10-22. Super sharp, awesome color and contrast. And it is built fairly well. It doesn't feel as solid as my L lenses but it is nice.
As for the extra money, I like to buy Canon products and they sell fairly quick on the used market. (as long as it is the right ones)

Congratulations, Jeff. Based on my very limited use of my new 10-20 (heck, ALL my stuff is new...) I think you will be very pleased with your purchase. For my part, I got my second D50 body in today, so my Tamrac is stuffed to the gills and I'm just waiting for some nicer weather to go use it.

Have fun at AKL; I'll be watching this board for your pix!

Thanks- yes nicer weather would be nice. We are staying at CBR this weekend and went to MK today. It was in the low 50's/ high 40's and spitting rain off and on all day. Yuck. I carried my little waterproof Pentax W20 around and left the dslr in the car. Lots of pictures of people sporting $7 poncho's but for some reason my laptop cant see my film reader so I will have to wait until I get home to post any. :confused3

Well I got it last night- and went for a walk at lunch to test it out. Here are a few examples. All shots are uncropped right out of the camera.

Now those are some captivating pictures -- nice lense, and nice composition -- well done.

Those are awesome pictures!! I wish I had that view if I went out for a walk at lunch instead of 12 degrees and snow.

Love #5, the palm tree one...ok after my zoom, it'll be a wide angle for sure

Looks like a keeper to me! Excellent lunchtime grabs.
