Ophelia UPDATE!!

I just check the weather report this morning and this is what they report.

...TROPICAL STORM LOCAL STATEMENT...CORRECTED NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MELBOURNE FL 555 AM EDT FRI SEP 9 2005

...OPHELIA WEAKENS TO A TROPICAL STORM AND IS NO LONGER STATIONARY...

...NEW INFORMATION... OPHELIA HAS WEAKENED TO A TROPICAL STORM...AND IS BEGINNING TO MOVE AWAY FROM EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA. HOWEVER...A TROPICAL STORM WARNING FROM SEBASTIAN INLET TO FLAGLER BEACH WILL REMAIN IN PLACE FOR AT LEAST THIS MORNING. IF THE CURRENT TREND CONTINUES...THESE WARNINGS WILL LIKELY BE DROPPED LATER TODAY...LEAVING MAINLY A MARINE AND BEACH CONCERN FOR THE FORECAST AREA.

So It's starting to look better.

Yes it will be better for the next few days but they aren't in agreement about what happens after that.

I checked 2 separate maps today and they both showed Ophelia heading NE, then looping to the south until it turns towards Georgia and S. Carolina. I didn't see any reports of it being more than a Cat 2. Then again, this is exact science we're talking about, right?

It's interesting that I never really thought about the hurricane season when we decided to book this trip. But now all I can think about is the weather. It is a bit stressful, but I suppose I have to consider all I have to lose is a vacation while those that actually live in the area could well lose alot more than that. So while I am crossing fingers and toes whatever happens will happen - but that doesn't mean I can't hope the darned thing just heads back out to sea
