Oogie Boogie Bash – A Disney Halloween Party 2024

The app is so bad for characters. We went on Sunday, so the very first party.

Besides the character trails, we saw:

• a few dif cars in costumes
• Lotso
• Joy
• Captain Hook
• Pain
• Hans
• Sherriff of Nottingham
• Minnie/Daisy/Clarabelle as the Sanderson sisters
• Frozone

Apparently the Hag was there somewhere but we never saw her, and google tells me of another bunch of characters like the Blue Fairy and the Stepsisters that were not on the app. No Maleficent, Evil Queen, Cruella, Dr Facilier, Jafar or even Gothel.

This is honestly my only thumbs down for the party. I would love something like the Minnie/Daisy/Clarabelle as the Sanderson sisters photo op with a few different villains in there. They hang out at parades and shows, let us take a picture with Maleficent and Evil Queen together.

We could also use more villains merch in general. But that's not party specific xD.

Yeah, its strange they just announced Villains land so they know people love the Villains yet...kinda hid them

Also I can't believe no Captain America Zombie, Moonknight, Mr Knight, Were Wolf at night....like only Loki and Wanda is cool but wish we got more Marvel Spooky stuff. Also I'm sure its because right now the Disney Plus people are paying for him...but Deadpool would be a HUGE hit if he had a meet and greet.

Somewhat off topic they have Maleficent meeting at the castle (wish well) many nights but its once and the line is insanely long, so they know there is a demand but just refuse to try to help

(also I dont know if anyone knows this but it says characters stops meeting at 10 PM per the app...but then on live streams I swear I see characters still out past 10 PM)

I was just looking at the Disney World Mickey Not So Scary HP info, I stopped counting at 40+ special treats exclusive to the Halloween Party, and OBB at Disneyland only has 3! How fair is that, I am really disappointed.

The only thing I can speculate (and it is pure speculation) is that the California parks have a LOT of seasonal Halloween treats during regular park hours, so they do very few for OBB. Plus, MNSSHP also has less to do (no Villain's Grove, no treat trails, just parades and character meet and greets) so they offer more food items to balance that out. I'm sure someone has done the math on all that behind the scenes and maybe people just don't buy enough food at OBB for them to justify adding a bunch of special items.

I do wish they would offer us a FEW more food items on the west coast. But they would also need to make OBB an hour longer so we'd have time to enjoy them. LOL. (Which they SHOULD do with or without treats anyway!)

This is probably going to sound bad but.....does it seem like they are skimping on the candy? One of the things we enjoyed doing was going through and getting as much candy as we could to relive childhood memories. Most of it would be given away at work, on Halloween, etc but part of the fun was accumulating it. From the photos I've seen, it looks like mostly carrots (which get mushy/slimy by the end of the night out of the fridge), graham crackers (mostly smashed up), cranberries (melted together), and fig newton bars. WDW gives big scoops of candy, while at DL there seems to be a limit of one or two per stop max. Sure we could buy it for cheaper, but that's no fun.

We went to the 1st one (1st year) & there was a ton of candy, but I could see cutting back, especially when it sells out in minutes, people aren't going for the candy.

Am I reading this right that there’s no actual candy this year? It is literally the only way I’ll get my 8 year old to not want to just crush rides the whole party.

I went in early September last year and did most of the trails in the 1st half, and yes CMs mostly gave 1-2 pieces. It was obvious they were told so as they carefully made sure to grab 1-2 and drop some if they grabbed more. Of course there were occasional CMs that obviously didn't care and just gave handfuls, but not the majority. When I did trails in the last hour many were even out of candy. The ones that did have a lot of candy left seemed to be more generous at the end of the night though definitely not scoops. Especially the very end (last 15 minutes) some trails ran out and clearly weren't restocking. It felt pretty cheap! That said, there are so many trails that with a few CMS per trail, you still get a lot of candy especially if you go through every trail. But you wouldn't fill a whole tote bag after just a few trails either, you definitely have to do all of them or multiple trips through. Lines were sooo much shorter in the 2nd half that I regret waiting in them at the start and this year plan to do more photos/rides at the beginning and treat trails later in the evening. Wasted too much time in 10-20 minute lines that had no line later in the night.

Does anyone know what the alternative treats are? I think one place had Werther’s and one place gave out gummies and an earths best lollipop, but I’m trying to figure out if the alt treats are worth collecting. I avoid dairy but tbh I’d cheat with M&Ms if the allergy friendly treats are lame.

Actually MNSSHP has more to do. There’s two big shows, (Castle show and the Dance Party) smaller interactive shows (like the cadaver Dans). Projection shows, parades, special M&G (large scale ones as well like all 7 dwarves) and Photo Pass Magic Shots. Plus the Treat stations don’t have the characters and they move faster.

Also you get a longer party. In at two and going past Midnight. I’ve done multiple runs at the treat stations, rode all the big rides, watched all the shows and parades and still had time to grab food.

Oh and the allergy friendly treats are also super easy to collect and have really appealing choices.

That's my "have never been" ignorance showing. I've just heard a lot of people who have gone to both be disappointed that MNSSHP doesn't have the treat trails with the rare characters, or Villain's Grove. I'm guessing both parties have their pros and cons, so I suppose it all boils down to what things you prefer to see and do.

I see people upset by not having exclusive food offering......I mean you get free candy so dessert should be covered. Also you want to spend 1ish hour out of the 5 eating theme park food?

I just know when I'm going, I'm getting Monsters in the dark and dinner done before the party so I can focus on the exclusive characters, parade and other things that only happen during these 5 hours you have at the event

I don’t personally care about exclusive food offerings, but especially if someone is coming from WDW where those are a big part of the party experience, I can see why they’d comment on the difference here. It could be a little disappointing/surprising. I had a friend who went to Star Wars Night “for the food” and basically just spent the whole time eating. Who am I to judge?

Haha, this was almost us. While not just there for the food, we were definitely more interested in the special food offerings at Star Wars Night than lining up for the meet and greets or photo ops. We were quite satisfied walking by and seeing the ewoks or Han in carbonite than waiting in the insanely long lines. We did fill up our time with other entertainment too, but really enjoyed trying several of the food items.

I also don't care that much about exclusive food offerings for OBB since there's enough to do and not much time as it is. But I will say that we ate the specialty pizza at Pym's last year for a late snack and it was delicious. We mobile ordered so no waiting in line and it was nice to sit for a bit without taking much time away from other activities.

People enjoy OBB and Disney Parks in different ways. What you might not care about, someone else does. Also "free candy" is not even remotely the same as a decent Disney dessert. That tiny bag of brownie M&Ms ain't gonna hit the spot.

Personally, I don't spend a lot of time on the specialty food items anymore, but that's mainly due to a medical reason that limits what i can eat. But, other people love that stuff and if they want to spend their time doing that, then that's up to them.

Like I said in my previous post, the party really does need to be an hour longer though. That would give everyone some extra time to eat at least one thing if they wanted to, or just do more of the fun stuff. I ate dinner early before the party started, and still was barely able to fit in everything I wanted to do during the party. Would literally BEG Disney to have it open until midnight.
