Oogie Boogie Bash – A Disney Halloween Party 2024

Question. I accidentally bought the wrong night (forgot my parents were coming). Thankfully I was able to get a different night. I know I can’t sell my tickets. But ideas on were I can share that I have extras?
In the past, DISers have donated tickets to CHOC (Children's Hospital of Orange County) or Make a Wish.

Now that all our blood pressures and heart rates have returned to normal with our tickets securely in our hands, I would love to hear everyone’s favourite event, ride, experience at OBB. This will be my first time and I have no idea what to expect!

I would love to see the parade and have a great spot to view it from. Suggestions for this? Are there any special packages to be purchased for it? Or are crowd levels low enough that seeing the parade doesn’t require a 2-hour campout ahead of time?

Villains Grove is what I'm most excited for.

The videos of it always make it looks so darn cool, kinda wish they did something like it for Christmas time. think it would be an insane hit

The key to Villains Grove is to go either DURING one of the parades, RIGHT AFTER one of the parades (like, you have to consciously make sure you are viewing the parade from an area where you can easily get to Villians Grove once the parade is over) or at the end of the night (as close to the end of the party as possible). Those are the times when you will find less people going through, which significantly enhances the experience. Otherwise, you are funneled through with crowds of people, taking away from the atmospheric feel. NOTE: this didn't seem to apply as much last year because it seemed crowded in Villians Grove all night (at least when I was at the party) - I'm convinced they oversold tickets last year due to the ticketing fiascos. I'm hopeful crowd levels are back to pre-2023 levels.

6 dates available: Sept 3, Sept 10, Sept 17, Oct 1, Oct 22, Oct 29 -- all Tuesdays.
21 dates sold out.

This is why we held off on buying tickets this year and decided to not go. We went in late Oct 2022 and had a great time with fairly low crowds, short/fast treat trails, uncrowded Villains Grove (could stop and take photos and videos or just watch at the different sections), lots of nearly walk-on rides (Guardians 3x, etc.) But then we heard a bunch of reports last year that the crowds were significantly higher creating too much time in lines. REALLY hoping they don't oversell this year and if there's good feedback we will plan on going again in 2025.

Wife and I have been to Oogie Boogie 3 times, this will be our 4th (and first time bringing our daughter - 5YO). My random thoughts on your questions:
  • I think for us, the best part of any OBB is the food. We generally gravitate towards special food at any Disney event, but we love the Ghost Pepper nachos at LLL and the Mango Habanero Chix Tenders at Flo's.
  • That being said though, we also love the parade. For us, we like to see the 2nd viewing (it tends to be less crowded and easier to get a good viewing spot). My recommendation is to watch it from Hollywood Boulevard on the 2nd viewing - easy to get a seat, great backdrop, etc. Definitely no 2 hour campout required.
    • I think you can purchase Dessert/Meal packages with secured/table viewing, but honestly as already noted, it's pretty easy to get a spot for the 2nd viewing if you want to save the money (and time - you have to commit a lot more time for a special viewing b/c of the eating)
  • I personally also love the Treat Trails. This is one thing OBB does better than MNSSHP (in my opinion). Great way to see multiple characters (incl. quite popular ones, Oogie Boogie himself, etc.) without having to wait in a long line, keep moving, etc. We def. plan to utilize these for our kiddo.
  • Villains Grove is really cool as well. The line can get quite long to get in and stay long (b/c it doesn't open typically right away, they have to wait for it to get proper dark). Definitely worth doing at least once though if you haven't, and unique to OBB.
  • The overlay on Guardians is great; we also just love the decorations in Cars Land - the ride overlays there are very cute too.

Anyone who has done he dinning package thoughts?

I'm pretty sure I'm going the second show but just wanted to ask

Also people saying the lines for Villains Grove is shorter in the parade time like 20-30 mins short or just under an hour?

Seeing as how it's still hot in October, probably no costumes for us. It will be my twin niece & nephew's first visit to any Disney park so I'm super excited about that. They will have just turned 1 the week before, too. Hopefully they like characters so we can take photos, otherwise, will be interested to see their reactions to the zero heigh requirement rides.

The older girls love rollercoasters so they may be eager to go on Incredicoaster while I take the middle niece on the carousel or TSMM.

I've never gone to a Disney park on Halloween so this is super exciting!

Thank you for all this! The food is high on our list too (me, DS 19 and DD 20). The Ghost Pepper nachos sounds delicious!

I’ll plan to watch the second parade. Do you happen to know what time this will take place? We likely won’t arrive until 7pm or so that evening as we are coming from Universal Studios.

I’ll make the treat trail and Villains Grove a top priority too. Excited to see the overlays as well. This will be my first time in the parks when there are holiday overlays.

Your mileage may vary, but last year - at 7:50pm, I watched the Headless Horseman ride by at the intersection across from Little Mermaid. (First parade beginning.) As soon as he was past me, I went directly to Villains Grove, and was inside at 8pm.

I might have gotten lucky, but it was great. I actually went back later near the end of the party - I had a longer wait, but I think it was like 10-15 minutes.

This will be our fourth time going to OBB. We were planning on skipping it this year but my husband wanted to go.

We had such an amazing time last year!!! I still haven’t seen Villains Grove so that will be a priority this time.

I’m excited to see which characters will be at the treat trails this year!

The characters are on the treat trails? I remember when MNSSHP used to do that. Now they just funnel you through and a grumpy looking cm gives you 2 pieces of candy.

Yes, there are characters but you can’t really interact with them. They will talk etc as you go through the line.
