Ontario Residents What are Your Summer Plans?

My trailer is open so will be spending my vacation there. As well as hoping Wonderland opens so I can get my theme park fix.

We are going to Disney for a total of three and a half weeks...I can’t wait. We are not really into camping (no offence to those that are, I just have a horrible relationship with mosquitoes and black flies from time spent in Muskoka through the years) and there is nothing else to do here in Toronto with the Islands closed and things not really opening up. We did manage to squeeze a few weeks of camp out of the whole mess, so that’s a welcome thing! We thought about going to NYC to visit friends, but ultimately decided that having more to do during the day at Disney would be preferable.

There is lots to do here in Ontario. Wonderland should be opening soon. Lots of campgrounds open. I really do hope you quarantine upon returning.

I can't believe any one would want to go to a hot bed of Covid-19 right now. I love going to US theme parks but til they get it under control I have no interest.

Ok first off, you may not want to hear this but as long as the borders are supposed to be “closed” to non-essential travel this really isn’t cool. I don’t care if you found a loophole that allows you to travel.

Second, please make sure you absolutely follow the 14 day isolation when you return. I mean don’t even set foot inside a grocery store, pharmacy, nothing. And absolutely do not send your kids to any camp or school after your trip.

I’ve heard they are not going to open this summer. The government won’t allow it.

Yep, we definitely have that quarantine built into our plans! We are not concerned about catching the virus at Disney.

One of the great things about this forum, I find, is that members are open-minded enough to allow others to make personal decisions for themselves and their families without others jumping in to try to yuck their yum. So, I am very glad that you have things to look forward to doing this summer, and that you are able to respect our wishes to go where we like without it affecting your life in the least. I’m sure that you will enjoy going back to Disney when you are comfortable doing so and I respect that choice. I would hope that you would do the same for others.

There is no loophole. Non-essential travel is closed to land border crossings only. This has been the case from the beginning back in March.

I’m not sure why the immediate assumption is that we wouldn’t fully quarantine upon return. There was never a chance we wouldn’t. It’s worth it to us.

The government has officially asked that we avoid any non essential travel outside of Canada. It’s an official advisory. So even though you can legally fly to the US, yes it is a loophole. And I question that you wouldn’t quarantine completely because you won’t follow the request not to travel for non essential reasons. And a 3 week trip to Disney (a major hot spot right now) is not essential.

No summer vacation plans. Essential worker so working full time. On weekends, I have full days tending my vegetable gardens and lawn maintenance. But not a complete killjoy as my parents have a cottage so some weekends I get away and enjoy but the trade off is I cut the lawns there, clean the cottage, help take down trees and do some grocery shopping for them. I'm never really bored or feel shut in. Now trying to schedule dentist appointments and get essential healthcare done before the Fall as concerned that second wave and overlap with flu season will push us back into shut down. I absolutely understand that vacations and getting out of the condo, apt or house is necessary for mental health. But also lots of prep work to be done before Fall. Maybe I just have the 'squirrel' gene and instinct to make hay while the sun shines in summer.

Good for you! Enjoy your trip. And definitely not a loophole, as the border is legally open to air travel. Just quarantine appropriately when you return, as you have indicated you will, and you'll be fine. So jealous of your chance to get away!

We just spent 3 nights at Embassy Suites in Niagara this past weekend(it was supposed to be one night but we kept on extending because it was nice to be out of the house). Then in 2 weeks we have a house rented in Port Dover for 2 weeks. The beach is closed there but at least it will feel more relaxing being out of our own house.

We’re I think the only area in Canada (definitely the only one in ON) still in phase one. Businesses & restaurants dying at a steady clip even though us & many others are ordering in 2x more than we used to to try & help.

Already canceled our WDW trip & won’t venture out even to the surrounding towns which at least have salons open (I am seriously impressed now with my haircut skills!).

We are a hotspot. I won’t put others & healthcare professionals at risk just because I want a vacation or a haircut.

We’ll probably still be in phase 1 when the rest of the province likely goes back to phase 1 with the 2nd wave. Ah well. The money we are saving right now is going to make a killer vacation in 2021 🤞🏻

Camping and outdoor activities like hiking, going to beach, fishing.
We are lucky in Northwestern Ontario. Lots of space to have fun and social distance. Yesterday we went to a beach and there were 5 other groups there. Plenty of space.

We are camping next week, then I lucked out, seeing a friend's FB post almost as soon as he posted it about a camp rental. So I booked 2 weeks at the end of August for an incredible price, right on the lake. I plan to do some work from there though, but it will be easier answering emails from a deck overlooking the water than in the 4 walls I've been stuck since COVID struck.

There are a ton of all inclusive resorts (or just cabin rentals) in Northwestern Ontario looking for customers since the border is closed, if anyone is interested in fishing. Most have lots of activities like kayaking, water slides, etc. for kids too. If you're into the outdoors and love beautiful scenery, you won't be disappointed with a road trip along the North Shore of Lake Superior either.

I have been searching for resorts in Ontario but I feel like a fish out of water. It isn't our usual vacation. Can you by chance recommend some resorts in Northwestern Ontario? Sincerely appreciate it.

We're things open? Lost our Disney World and cruise vacation. DH still wants to do something. But even if we go somewhere, I'm not sure anything touristy will be open to see.

Most attractions in Niagara falls are open now. The only things really not open are the casino or the amusement park.

Deerhurst Resort is open. There are both a regular resort and have a timeshare that DVC members can trade through RCI. My DH and I had 28 hours without the kids before school one year and very much enjoyed it. It is in Huntsville, about 2 1/2 hours north of Toronto. They have at least two nice restaurants with patios, one indoor pool, outdoor pool and waterfront. Close to Algonquin and Arrowhead parks, there is a petting zoo, canoes and kayaks, ATV rentals and hopefully their waterfront inflatable obstacle course will open up. :) We really enjoyed it and would consider taking the kids there.

Camping, camping, camping.
We have a small travel trailer so are fully self-contained. Just returned from 5 nights on Canada Day. Another 4-nights reserved for mid-July and a 1-day stay in August. All are on waterfront sites where we can just drop the kayaks into the water and paddle away. Biggest issues so far is another fire-ban in Eastern Ontario. Takes some of the fun out of the evenings. We don't often do campfires anymore because of the carbon footprint, but our last one was May24 weekend 2019!

Nothing:sad:
My backyard and occasionally my front yard.
First time having no summer plans.
Renting a cottage has never appealed to us.

What are you looking to do? Kids? Ages? Interests? How far do you want to drive?

I would have recommended something like this as a base of operations to hike, golf, do a kayak tour, etc. (but it looks like it's sold out - friends stayed there and said it was amazing)

Since you've never done that kind of vacation, I would't recommend going to a boat or fly in resort that caters mostly to fishing, in case you hate it. If you could find something along one of the big lake shores to rent out, that includes kayaks, etc, beach for swimming, you can have a great time staying there, and do a couple of mini day trips hiking, or a one day guided fishing trip, etc.

After researching a number of different options we ended up booking 5 nights at Deerhurst Resort. It sounds like there is still a lot open at the resort and ways to have a socially distanced good time. From the recent reviews of current Covid practices I feel reassured that we can have a relatively safe getaway. Something to finally look forward to :).

Yeah, no plans here either and we don't even HAVE a yard! I can sit on the front step and if i want to feel adventurous I can stand under the tree at the edge of the garden :P

I don't want to camp or go to a cottage because it just means i get to do all the same crap i do here with less convenience! I don't see that as a holiday.

It's hard not having something to look forward to, can't even make any plans because of the uncertainty surrounding travel. Heck, I would even go for the chance to go grocery shopping together!!!
