There's no way you'll be able to stay at a Disney resort without someone over 18 in the room, and I suspect the same goes for any commercial hotel/motel in the Orlando area.

Honestly, I'd couldn't recommend that you take this trip, at your ages. Wait a year until one of you is over 18, and you can stay at a Disney resort and use Disney Transportation.

This was what we were actually planning to do, but because we thought we would be allowed to stay at Disney Resorts. Too bad we can't :( We'll have to leave the trip for September 2012 then, or January 2013. Unless hostels allow us to stay, any ideas on this?

Are there hurricanes or something on september? And what about the Fantasyland expansion, any idea if for september it would be open or it would be a better option to travel on january 2013 and most likely have it all opened?

Hurricane season actually lasts until the end of October (ish), however, Orlando is not on the coast, and generally doesn't get hit too hard. I suggest travel insurance, just in case...

Also, I don't know if you know anyone in the Orlando area, but once we checked my daughter and her boyfriend in to a hotel, since they were unable to do so due to age. We signed them in, and left, and it was all good. I have no idea if that works in Florida, I did this in CA, and every state has different laws. good luck! FYI- January is less costly, and safe from hurricanes.:upsidedow

Unless you are of the age of majority, you are not capable to signing and being bound to a contract. So, you are not able to rent a hotel room, which is a contractual obligation.

Okay, is this just me being way too cynical and jaded? Looked at the OPs post count and name. A thought sprang to mind: do we:welcome: or do we issue a troll alert?:stir: (Where is the troll smiley?)

You know it's people like you who make it a very unfriendly board when you check the post count and already assume they are a troll. I give out cards to my customers all the time recommending this site and I always do a disclaimer about people like you who will call them trolls and be all snarky. How is anyone supposed to feel Welcomed if they are called a troll? The only way to get a higher post count is to POST. Questions, answers and other stuff. I've seen people with high post counts who acted more like Trolls. If you think it's a troll, don't comment. If it is one, you will know soon enough without having made yourself look like a fool and if it isn't, you haven't upset someone for asking something that was important to them.

I have almost 2000 posts and you are close to 1000. That doesn't mean that my questions are more or less valuable than yours.

I met a girl from Australia who at 16 was traveling by herself through Canada and the US. She was traveling by bus and staying with relatives and friends on her trek. Just because we don't do it doen't mean it isn't done. She was having a ball. She learned a lot from us and we learned a lot from her.

To Original Poster. Have you looked into Youth Hostels in the Orlando area? I don't know if there are any, but that might be an option if there is.

there's a difference between walkabouts amongst friends and relations abroad and 2 unsupervised unchaperoned teens renting a hotel in a strange city.

just because it is done doesn't make it safe or advisable for the OP to consider it. especially in the US.

The girl I was talking about was going on busses by herself between the places that she stayed. So, she was very much on her own while between stops.

I went to Florida with our high school band when I was 17. Yes, we had chaperones, but believe me, they weren't keeping very good watch over us most of the time. DD went to NewOrleans during Mardi Gras with her high school band and went to Basin Street with her friends and she went to WDW at 16 with the band and again the chaperones were really only around at night to make sure everyone stayed in their rooms. (As if bad things only happen at night) DS went to Universal Orlando for a BattleBots high school convention at 17 and the chaperones were there but not very effective from some of the things he told me happened on the trip. If the kids want to do things wrong they will find a way. If they are taught what to do and what not to do and how to keep themselves safe they could probably be safer than having chaperones who are ineffective.

Back in the 70s, my DH and I met many American teens roaming around Europe by themselves when we were there on vacation, some as young as 15. Things have changed in this country, for many reasons. Your great-great grandparents probably immigrated here from other countries at very young ages, many of them alone at 13 or 14. My grandfather came from Canada alone in his early teens to be a lumberjack.

For the record, I'm not a troll. I'm really asking all of this, you have no reason to accuse me of actually being one.

I find it somehow funny that you consider USA especially Orlando an unsecure country, when you have no real idea of what real insecurity is (try living in Buenos Aires and you will know, I think our brazilian neighbours can say the same). Things have changed of course, Argentina used to be a lot safer for example, but if you compare us to you, well then there is no reason to get worried (trust me on this one).

nope. for one at 16 it is a permit only which RESTRICTS the driving.. not at night and must have a licensed driver in the car as well.

not really related to the thread, but in Ohio, 16 is the age for a full fledged drivers license. I think there are still a few restrictions, such as number of underage passengers in the vehicle. But there is no nighttime restriction I am aware of (other than various municipalities' individual curfews) and it is not a permit requiring a licensed driver. Permits start at 15 1/2 here I believe.

Oh, by the way, my DD is now a Local College Campus Cop. She works the night shift from midnight to 8 am. It may not be a safe job to do, but because we allowed her freedom when she was younger, she is now very comfortable doing her job. She has had all the proper training, but things can still go wrong. Should she quit because it unsafe for her to be doing what she is doing. And her DH is a Police Officer in a local City and recenty retired from the Army after 2 tours in Iraq and a tour of Bosnia. Yes, I worry about both of them, but they are doing what has to be done and are both mature enough to realize the dangers.

.

I did not assume she was a troll. I asked IF she COULD be a troll. She had a VERY unusual name, a low post count, and had replied twice to other posters, refusing to accept the advice she was given. And I don't really care how many posts you have to your name. I don't see the significance of your statement. Given the unusual number of threads started by trolls in the last couple of weeks, it was not outside the realm of possibility that this was another. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck......

Yes, she could be, and perhaps is, a legitimate poster without the maturity to accept that what she wants to do is not permitted in the country she wants to visit. She and the other little girls with her can't stay at Disney without adult supervision. Asked and answered.

:welcome:and please keep posting your questions. That is what the boards are here for. Ignore the people who think that behind every low post count hides a troll. When they make those comments they turn into Trolls themselves. Maybe they are looking in a mirror when they are making their comment.:lmao:

FYI, I'm a boy. My 3 friends are boys.

I accept that I can't do it, because of the law. I was arguing about this law with other users. I don't see the bad thing about this, it's a DISCUSSION board. Thanks.

Now then, if I can't stay at Disney hotels, what about hostels? Any law regulating that?

d OP S oviusly nt a teen coz shes nt tlkN lk dis.

MinnieMum, you could have just welcomed her without the additional comment. You could have just read it and welcomed them and stopped there.

poohbear22, not all teens are lazy and use texting shorthand. I know quite a few kids who are more literate than some people on these boards.

ilusionista I give you a ton of credit for wanting to travel to the USA at your age with just your friend(s). My son had several opportunities to travel abroad with me as his chaperone and he didn't even want to entertain the thought. Wish he did as I would have loved to see Italy and Australia. If you do and are able to travel to the USA, have a great time and safe travels.

I don't think we will, at least not until one of us turns 18, sadly it's not happening until July :( but thanks anyway
