Only minors (no adults)?

It wouldn't be to check in, just to ask.

Still, I think I'll let my parents talk to the travel agent and see what she can tell them. Maybe she'll be able to phone every single Orlando hotel XD and find something out.

:sad2:
It is 1 am in Orlando. There is no one you can reach by phone to "just ask".

I know it does happen, but how stupid do you think we are? Here in Buenos Aires kids younger than me can go armed and rob and kill and it's COMMON. And we would be all day at the parks, so no chances of anything happening.

Yeah but if you can't stay at a Disney hotel (which you can't...it's 18 to stay there) you have to travel outside of the magical shell that is Disney.

Really....look at orlando violence and crime rates. It's not pretty in a lot of off-site areas.

And for those who don't think suburbia has gangs...where the heck do you live? You must live in some lovely fantasy land because you are so off base. Suburbs have their fair share of gangs. No question about it. We had a problem with gangs at our school. And gang members with money are worse than those without.

And we live in a suburb right now. We definitley have gangs up here. Again, no question. We are nowhere near downtown LA. We are about 30 miles North and we have gang problems at pretty much every school.

Those who think that gangs are only around in poor neighborhoods probably also think that drugs are only a problem in those same neighborhoods. I remember a cocaine ring bust at one of our county high schools that was one of the wealthiest in the county.

Ilusionista, your attitude is EXTREMELY pollyanna. you seem to think that because you survive BA that Orlando will be a piece of cake. NOT SO. you may speak the language and have been there ONCE before but you have NO idea of our little quirks and customs and local foibles of culture. one worng move and you could find yourself bleeding in a gutter 1/2 a mile from Disney.

as for who was it, twodisney? that seems to think Gangs are only is ghettos. again POLLYANNA thinking. did you know that a large percentage of drug abuse happens in AFFLUENT neighborhoods? yeap rich kids with all the advantages are dealing and and using.

Look I have lived in Japan, traveled extensively throughout Asia and the US and have dabbled in places such as Mexico, Canada and the Caribbean

ALL of these places have kids begging you for money or to buy cheap trinkets in the touristy areas. all of these places have gangs and areas that the locals avoid, let alone the naive tourist. BA is no more scary a place than any other, no more or less dangerous. but to assume that because you are from one area does NOT mean you are equipped to handle another.

and somebody dd bring up a good point re: entering the country without a legal adult.. you can have all the notarized letters in the world and it may not be enough for Customs and Immigration. just because your parents may state they will take responsibility does not mean that should you get into trouble they will.. and getting them to comply is gonna be impossible as they are not IN the US.

if you and your pals wanna travel as 17 year olds alone, go to Europe where it is allowed.

Save Disney for when you will be able to pull it off logistically.

nope. for one at 16 it is a permit only which RESTRICTS the driving.. not at night and must have a licensed driver in the car as well.

I am gonna give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you are legit. doesn't mean that you are ready to handle being alone in a major American metropolitan area which is full of unsavory types who would think nothing of preying on some unsuspecting tourist. of any age. but ESPECIALLY kids.

In my state you get a permit at 14 and a license at 16.

Aww. Come on guys. Let's not get freaked out here. Of course there are gangs everywhere in the U.S. There were gangs in the 1940's, 1950's, 1960's, etc. I was responding to the info below which was imparted to Iluisionista regarding why he & his friends should not travel without an adult to WDW -

America has gangs of teenagers that rob and kill and walk around more heavily armed than the local law enforcement Now, consider this statement. If this was true, how would an adult protect the OP & his friends?
I interpreted that this poster was describing a "wild west" sort of scene for this young man to walk into at WDW.

I believe my statement of - Ilusionista, I agree with you on not getting murdered by gangs of heavily armed U.S. teenagers. Haven't seen any of those at Disney! - is correct. If it is not correct, then why is there a Disboards for all of the happy families flocking to WDW? My statement in no way infers that there are no gangs in the Disney area - Note that I said "at Disney".

I also said - The U.S. may have such gangs, but not in most places - none in my suburbia or the many places in the U.S. where I travel. - Note my use of "such" gangs - referring to the marauding gangs randomly killing innocents in my suburbia neighborhood & places where I travel. I can honestly say that I have never seen gangs of teenagers walking around robbing & killing people in my suburdia, or anywhere else I have been in the U.S & I don't know anyone who has. Obviously gang murders happen in the U.S., but not where most smart, informed Americans choose to walk-about - such as Dissers going to WDW.

I also said - Such gangs are normally located in the most economically distressed neighborhoods & typically prey on each other Now, the statistics are that gang murders are in economically distressed neighborhoods - sadly this is so. Even more sadly is that if the gang murders happened in the higher economic areas of suburbia, something would finally be done about protecting potential victims, & hopefully about protecting our youth from the ravages of drugs, gangs, & crime! BTW, there is no way my statement could honestly be interepted as a negative against people who live in economically distressed neighborhoods. The discussion was about "gangs", not hard working & lawful folks.

So, if folks would just "read" all of what we each say, understand we type quickly & not always clearly, & not jump to conclusions in order to "prove" their point, we could get along more pleasantly & try to provide impartial info on this board.

Oh Oh, gotta get off here - the bullets are flying in! :scared1: Ok, I couldn't resist that joke!

OP--where did you stay when you came to WDW earlier this year? Staying in a hostel and dealing with difficult transportation issues could make this a very different experience than the WDW that charmed you earlier this year. If you wait until one of you is 18, you will have saved more money allowing for an even better trip. At your ages (18) I still think you will have the most magical time on property with all the transportation taken care of. Save your money, watch for codes and maybe get a QS dining package and you will have the time of your lives! Oh, yeah...save up enough money to rent some Sea Raycer boats!

Again, you live a VERY sheltered life. I wish I could have your completely naive way of thinking. Unfortunately, I grew up in the real world and actually have a grasp of what is out there.

It may seem unfair but that is the legal standard in the US. You may not rent a hotel room unless you are of legal age. Disney requires one person age 18 or over to be present in each room rented. They ask for identification. There is no way around it. You will need to find someone who is 18 to come with you if you want a Disney resort room, or wait until one of you is 18.

Not sure how it has anything to do with gangs or whether or not the country or Orlando are secure or safe. It's the legal age for entering into contracts and renting a room is a contract.

Disney itself will not permit parents to sign in their minor children. The only occurrences where that seems to be accepted is if the children are traveling as part of a chaperoned group. This is Disney's own rule. You may be able to find a hotel in Orlando that will allow you to check in if you present something your parents have signed, but it won't be a Disney resort.

Upstate NY, in a college town( Syracuse)

Columbia MD( outside of Baltimore)

Salinas CA ( near Monterey and in a HUGE tourist area)

All of these areas have heavy gang activity although you don't see troops of Sharks and Jets going at it in the middle of Downtown Main street. Gangs are much more sophisticated than in days past. and NONE of them are economically depressed areas.

Folks, we are WAY off topic here. Arguments over whose city has the most gangs and at what age teenagers can drive have nothing to do with whether and how a group of teenagers can vacation in WDW without adults.

I'll leave this open in case anyone else has anything helpful to contribute. If the off-topic arguing continues, the thread will be closed.

Yeah, we were getting off topic.

For the one who asked, I stayed at Staybridge Suites.

Hola Ilusionista, hablas espaNol? Ciao!

Which is more likely to get through bag check - a Glock 9mm or an M16? I've been to the Orlando area many times and according to MRSJVB it sounds like I'll need some protection against the roving gangs of teenage thugs. :sad2:

The wife's Baggelini is very accommodating but it's red and I don't want to risk offending any Crips who might be scoping the tourists. :rolleyes1

Si, hablo español, y eso es lo que estuvieron diciendo en el thread. Excepto de que algunos hoteles te dejan si los padres se hacen responsables.
