Only 4 in a 1BR? Really?

Is that accurate? If so, I'm having a hard time with that one. If 4 can stay in a studio, why is a much larger 1BR limited to 4 as well?

We're a family of 5 (two are only 5 months old), but there's no way we'd be able to afford the 2br down the road. If this is really the case, no DVC for us.

Check with MS. Due to the fact that 2 of you are under the age of 1 you would probably be OK in a 1 bedroom. Usually if one or more of the children are under 1 then they don't count, or count as 1/2 a person so to speak. Space wise there would be plenty of room so I am with you that I would not want a 2 bedroom. Also could depend on the age of the 3rd person, child or adult.

Well, that would work for a couple years, then what? That's what I'm wanting to find out. If we buy, we want to buy what we can actually use. And if our only option will be a 2BR, then we know DVC is not at all an option for us.

Duck and cover!!! This is a very hot issue on this board. DVC's states that a one bedroom can hold 4 plus one child under 3. Many folks on this board have reported that DVC will allow 5 in a 1 bedroom, but will not provide bedding and linens for that 5th person. I personally have no problem with a family of 5 staying in a one bedroom, I don't particularly want my children two rooms away from me on vacation with their own exit door. Talk to DVC about it. If they tell you it's not a problem, then don't worry about it. Several folks have reported that all 5 names were on there reservation and it was fine with DVC. Good luck with your decision, we are a family of five also (still have one under 3) and have had to deal with this issue. In Feb. we are getting a 2 bed. only because my parents are coming along to help with the kids! Of course that means we will be points poor next year from all our borrowing!

We are also a family of five we own at BWV 175points. What our guide told us is that we own it. so there should not be any problem with having five in a room. My youngest is only 2 right now. I have read that people just bring an air matress for an extra bed along with extra bedding.

Hope this helps. People do hve differing opinions on this topic though.

LOL! I'm just wanting to know the "official" word before I get all excited, I suppose. I honestly don't see how they think 4 is ok for a studio (which I've stayed in and they're not very big) and state the limit as 4 for a much larger space as well. **shrug** They can make the rules, but it still seems incongruent. I'm not asking so I can cheat the system. I'm asking so I can decide whether this is even a viable option.

Most DVC owners do what best fits their vacation needs, and what they are comfortable with. A 1-BR certainly offers enough space for a family of five with 3 small children. We are "a 5" and stay in 1 and 2-BR units depending on our "point plans" and vacation goals for each trip.

You will not get an "official word" in writing, but families of 5 have reported getting the verbal word from DVC that 5 is fine, but no extra bedding, towels, etc. will be provided. Call MS and check with supervisory staff if you have questions concerning this.

When your kids are real little I can understand wanting to use less points and not feeling the need for a 2 bedroom, but let me tell you that as your kids get bigger you are going to want the extra space, not to mention another T.V. and that second bathroom. We have 4 kids, ages 13, 11, 9, and 6. We love the 2 bedroom!!!!! We don't own a lot of points but do see an add-on (or 2 or 3) in the future so we can make more trips down (we also don't like for them to miss school, but they will miss one day for our MNSSHP trip in October.) I know when you have babies the teen years seem SOOOOO far off, but let me tell you they come quickly. When they hit puberty they no longer run around naked and jump in the tub together. I feel that DVC is the way to go for any family that can swing it. Will you just keep squeezing into one hotel room when they get older? You have to decide what is best for you, but we would have a hard time going back to 2 hotel rooms, especially for longer trips. The kitchen and washer/dryer alone make DVC worth it to me!!! The reason they state 4 in a studio and 4 in a 1 bedroom is because that is the amount of bedding that is available in both rooms. The studio has 2 queen size beds or a queen size bed and a seeper sofa - 2 in each bed equals 4 people. The 1 bedroom has a King size bed and a sleeper sofa - 2 in each bed equals 4 people.

Also, according to the timeshare experts around here, 4 people in a 1 bedroom is a timeshare standard.

Personally, I am very spoiled and for me 4 in a 1 bedroom is too many. We have 4 in our family and we get a 2 bedroom. This way the kids have thier own room and we still have the Living Room and Kitchen to relax in in the evenings or wake up in the mornings and move around without waking up the kids. We do go to WDW quite a bit and we spend a good amount of time relaxing and some of that time we spend in our room so having the extra space is a must for us. If you are doing the parks commando style and don't spend much time in your room, I can see where you wouldn't need the space.

We just stayed in a 1 bedroom at VWL, honestly, I would find it hard to fit 5 adults in the room. 2 and 3 kids under the age of 10, no problem, but the way the rooms are layed out, unless you want kids in the bedroom it would be tight, or put the kids in the bedroom, and Mom and Dad on the couch.
