Only 1,430 days left....

until Jan. 20, 2013.

It cannot come soon enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah. Then it'll be the second time a black man is inaugurated into the white house! Awesome, isn't it?

Unless a Republican wins :sad2:

Sorry to have to leave this discussion but my DH is leaving tonight for a month of training before deploying to onof the unnecessary wars you guys talk about constantly. It is nice to know that all this time away from his family is viewed by many as waste of time and resources. Good thing my DD who has been upset all day is unaware of the feelings many of you have.

I'm sorry that he has to leave for wherever he's being deployed. I would love to see the day when ALL wars are unnecessary, but we're generations away from that, I fear.

My best friend's daughter is on her fourth tour in Iraq and I can't wait for the day she comes home and never has to go back to the "sandbox". (FTR-that's the only war I feel was one of choice, and the choice was a mistake)

I am thankful for her service, but am sad she is being deployed to a pointless war in Iraq.

If she's going to Afghanistan, my opinion changes. I am in favor of that one.

Either way, I wish her the best. She didn't choose where she is being sent to.

Hey, if that black man is Alan Keyes, thats fine with me!!!!!

Oh, man. I got dragged to one of his speeches when I was back in NJ. One of my conservative co-workers wanted to "educate" me. :scared1:

Obama is a shoe-in for 2012. I believe the consititution will be amended and Obama will serve a total of three or four terms…

Do you even know what Socialism is?

Seriously.. do you?

I'll give you a few minutes to get on Wikipedia and get the answer.

If they win... all I can say, is thank god for my second passport. I can't live through any more republifascist wingnuttery.

I believe I know what socialism is, and I believe I know what fascism is as well. Since you apparently welcome socialism, but fear fascism, I think I have some bad news for you…

The behavior we've witnessed so far, and the pronouncements of intended future behavior, from our new president bear far more resemblance to fascism than to socialism — the calls for more than 2 terms for Obama like that above being perhaps the least but most brazen among them. Now I understand that fascists generally have been fierce nationalists first, and no one will ever mistake Barack Obama for a nationalist (at least not a U.S. nationalist!), but in other ways — the cult of personality, the powerful yet ultimately meaningless rhetoric, the call for a vague and nebulous "change," the populism/class warfare/chicken in every pot cliches, the stylized imagery of our president's face plastered, well, everywhere, but most of all the mad, ferocious, and unprecedented grasp for power at the federal level. These all bear the marks of a fascist, not a socialist leader.

I ask you: When will you know that he has turned the corner fully from socialism to fascism? Will you — an ardent supporter — be able to see it?

I direct you to a couple of essays for your perusal, merely as food for thought. One which explores why 11 states have made the unprecedented move to declare their sovereignty over President Obama and attempt to blunt the long (and apparently un-Constitutional) arm of the federal government he is attempting to use. From the article:

"These resolutions call on Obama to 'cease and desist' from his reckless government expansion and also indicate that federal laws and regulations implemented in violation of the 10th Amendment can be nullified by the states."

And the other, a widely read piece by Michael Ledeen, which looks at how fascism may come to the U.S. It's a fascinating read, if only to witness the truly keen prognostications of one Alexis de Tocqueville regarding how our fair nation might one day lost its commitment to democracy. From the piece:

"[de Tocqueville] foresees a slow death of freedom. The power of the centralized government will gradually expand, meddling in every area of our lives until, like a lobster in a slowly heated pot, we are cooked without ever realizing what has happened. The ultimate horror of Tocqueville’s vision is that we will welcome it, and even convince ourselves that we control it."

Hmmmm…eerily, even frighteningly, prescient, isn't it?

Anyway, I hope you enjoy reading these as much as I did. They do make one think, no?

You'd better hang on. We might not survive Comrade Obama.

Come on...this is the change you hoped for ?

I belong to the left wing.

What do you think?

I don't agree with every decision he's made so far, but I feel that this is a definite improvement over the previous administration.

I know PLENTY of democrats and MANY are very unhappy. They no longer want to "discuss" his agenda or his policies.

It's gone from.."he's the one"...to "he's better than the other guy"...to "he thinks it's going to help"...to **silence**

Yeah, I got exemption, but the fact remains that I still paid into a system I got nothing from.

I have no problem paying taxes... I seriously don't. I just expect to get something back.

How can you expect to get something back like driving on the roads, public school, etc if you dont' even like the country enough to actually live here?

None of the Democrats I know are unhappy at ALL, guess we know different Democrats! :lmao:

Really-because it's the opposite of the dems I know. :confused3

As to the OP-your statement makes me sad :sad2:

Before ya'll start with the Bush bashing response-I wasn't part of that.

The only countdown I am looking forward to is that I will be in WDW in 5 days   For a week :dance3:

Do they have stock portfolios, 401Ks or small businesses? How about children in college?

You guys can only blame Bush for so long. Fortunately, some of the dems I know, are also realists. There is something to be said for substance over ideology.

Most of 'em have a lot more $$ than I do! Some have kids in college, one has a kid in Iraq, one is a real estate agent, a couple of lawyers, a cop or two...they're all over the map. That's the fun thing about being a Democrat-the people at our conventions don't all look alike! :lmao:

There is something to be said for substance, and it's been made very clear to me since Jan 20th that I got substance for my vote this time. Last time I got a guy who talked a great game...but as for substance, not so much.

The ABC poll would refute that as well. The only people who are unhappy are the Republicans.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/02/23/AR2009022302176.html?hpid=topnews

Nearly seven in 10 believe Obama is delivering on his pledge to bring needed change to Washington, the poll found, and about eight in 10 say he is meeting or exceeding their expectations. At the same time, however, the bipartisan support he enjoyed as he prepared to take office has eroded substantially.

Just 37 percent of Republicans now approve of how he has done his job, a sharp drop from a month ago when 62 percent gave him good marks for his handling of the transition.

Oh please do not be sorry for my family or my husband he has benefited greatly from the Army. He has gotten a bachelors and masters all on their dime and now he has to serve his country as they see fit. Also in this time of economic woes luckily as of right now his job is pretty secure and we have not felt any of the economic problems. Well other than our investments tanking but hopefully by the time we retire they will be back in good standing. But thank you for your good thoughts.

I have more than a few friends that served, and none of them regret it. I admire all that choose to do so, because even though it can work out really well, the risk of it not going well is a lot higher than in many other professions.

How I feel about the US has nothing to do with this :)

That being said, let me flip this back at you.

How can they expect me to pay for things I didn't use? It's theft... or extortion. Either way, it wasn't right.

If I stay at a hotel and don't touch the minibar, I don't pay for its contents.

Same for the US. If I don't live there, why should I still pay into it?

Ron Paul 2012 sticker is already on my bumper :)
I really like Ron Paul. I like his stance on prohibition.

But he's not gonna win unless he seals a major party nomination, which would require him to do things 'their way'
