Online Dating Sites

Recently I have been seeing a lot of commercials for online dating sites and one in particular stuck out because I thought it was fake. The way the commercials are it comes across (to me anyways) like it's really an ad for gum or something off the wall. Not sure if I can say the name but in the commercial they say "you don't have to be a farmer just have to like the country".

Out of curiosity I checked out the website and it is real, haha. I don't have personal experiences with online dating but a friend of mine has some interesting stories.

Does anyone have any experiences to share?

Yes. I used a site I do not recommend, Craigslist. I met this guy on there. We chatted for about a month. We decided to meet in person. Jerk stole my heart and I stole his last name. This October is 10 years. :cloud9: Seriously I do not recommend Craigslist, but we were both very honest. Online dating, and dating in general, is about honesty. If you aren't honest no relationship will work.

That's really cute haha

I completely agree about being honest.

Not a dating site per say, but When I was in my mid 20's, I met a guy through MySpace (lol, remember MySpace?). He contacted me, due my my location & our shared taste in music & lifestyle. We casually dated for a few months & remained friends after that.

You talking about Farmersonly? Such cheesy commercials.

Yes I tried online dating, I lasted about 3 days on it (in a good way). I met my current fiance on "Plenty of Fish". I made a profile on a Friday, and he messaged me on there on Sunday. We texted a long time that Sunday night. We ended up actually meeting for our first date on Wednesday. Things just kind of took off from there.

Of course you get lots of messages, most of which are insulting and garbage. However, a few people actually had something to say. I had some phone conversations with a couple of them. I talked to somebody all night on Sat (didn't end up meeting him though). I did meet with somebody that I talked to on Sat on Mon for coffee. (that date went OK, just no real spark I guess).

Anyway, in regards to the one that worked. I just seemed to know he was "the one" when I met him in person. It is hard to explain when you meet somebody and instantly you feel like you have known him for a long time. The connection I felt is something difficult to explain. I know I did a thread that turned ugly about my anxiety and stuff when it comes to falling in love :rotfl2: I was seriously over analyzing everything about texting and stuff. I know I was being very childish, immature, paranoid, and just plain weird. I seriously DO trust him now.

I guess out in the real world i am slightly embarrassed to tell people (if they ask) how we met. I know others who met the love of their life online, so it is all good :goodvibes

Both sisters, one cousin and several other family members found their significant others on Plentyoffish.

I met my husband 11 years ago on an alternative dating site. I also met the guy I dated before him there.

LMAO I know why site you're talking about. We used to see those commercials all the time during hockey broadcasts. Local Twitter had a field day with it.

The latest one is where the girl walks into what looks like a high school gym and there are booths, it makes me laugh out loud for some strange reason.

I've never seen those commercials - I'll have to see if they are on Youtube.

I met my DH on eHarmony. We've been married almost 9 years.

I'm not sure if this works or if it even allowed but this is the most recent one I have seen, they are so hokey LOL

If you don't have to be a farmer why is it called Farmer's Only? That has to be the strangest dating site name I've ever heard.

I have friends that met on a dating site, they have been married for 5 or 6 years now.

My only experience with dating sites is eharmony. A friend was bummed she wasn't getting any matches so she asked DH and I to fill out profiles to see what came up. We filled them out separately and it matched us.

A girl I used to work with met her husband on match. They've been together several years and have two kids now.
