OK, DH and I are torn. We are past the nap stage, but kinda worried that after a full day at Disney the kids are going to crash at 9 or 10pm (or, you never know, may WANT a nap!!!) , and we won't be ready for bed! I personally think that after a full day at the parks, we'll ALL be ready for bed at 9 or 10pm, so it won't matter.

Soooo....DH suggested we get a suite, but they are so darn expensive! As I suggest to him, if they go to bed early, we can go hang out on the balcony for a little bit. We're really not night owls as it is, so I don't think it matters so much.

I have suggested to DH a deluxe room at the BC or BWI. A little more space, separate areas, but not quite as expensive as a suite.

What are some other options? We're planning this trip for summer of 2010!
Please share your suggestions?

Thanks so much!

I'm not sure how old your kids are, but if they are past the nap stage then you should be fine in a standard room. My kids did crash in the evening and nothing could wake them up. We had all the lights off except for the bathroom light and watched tv in bed. The kids did not move they were so tired. The hard part was having a baby in a standard room. I won't go back to disney unless we get a house next time or until he is at least two or three.

I agree, with a baby it is hard to share a room! That's a lot of tip-toeing around!!! ugh!

DD will be 8 1/2, DS will be 4 1/2 when we go. I honestly think a standard room would work out ok, but I will do a little research for DH and see what other options are available! :)

This is why so many of us buy DVC! Good luck on your decision.

We took our almost 4 year old in May and were in a standard room at CBR. We all crashed at night. Not a peep from any of us.

I know lots of families don't have any problems with kids in a standard room, but my family is not one of those. My kids have slept alone in their own rooms since the age of 3 months and do not sleep well when DH and I are in the room with them - even after a full day at an amusement park. We don't want to spend the money on a suite on-property or on a DVC investment, so we typically rent a condo at Windsor Hills. Three bedrooms = one happy family!

However, with that being said, we are tagging along on DH's business trip next week and decided to add three days to the front of the trip. I got a rate of $119/night for the Swan, so we are going to try that out. I have always wanted to experience the convenience of being able to walk to DHS & Epcot, but couldn't justify the expense of BW or BC. I figure I can live without sleep for just three days! :)

thanks for all the feedback!

I'm guessing after a long day at the parks, 1...the kids will be so tired they'll go to sleep with all the lights and tv's on...2...they'll catch their second wind once we get back to the room and it won't be an issue...3...DH and I will fall asleep before they do! :rotfl:

My kids were 5.5 and almost 3 last trip. After a long day at the parks, we were all ready for bed at the same time in the evening. We stayed for 9 days at POP and this was never an issue (and my kids have always slept alone in their rooms since babyhood as well). We didn't take mid-day breaks - the kids napped in the stroller. We will be staying at POR this year and plan to take breaks because the family we're travelling with has 4 children and the 2 youngest (will be 2 and 4) NEED naps and won't sleep in strollers. We plan to spend the downtime relaxing at the pool.

Last year (and again this year) our family will share one room at the Poly. While evenings aren't an issue-- we all practicallly pass out as soon as we cross the threshold, I tend to be the first one awake.

That balcony was the answer! I would sit there and just enjoy the serenity.

I think a single room will be just fine!

My mom and I left my dh home last fall and did WDW with my ds (who had just turned 3) last fall. We stayed at POP. Lesson learned for me. I will never again stay with kids at a value with no balcony or 2nd space. Mom and I spent our evenings after ds went to bed in the bathroom...for real...I laid in the tub, she sat on the potty... :rotfl: Get a balcony at least!!! :thumbsup2

We stay in a room with the kids and its fine. Wow I can't believe people have to go in the bathroom when their kids are asleep. Just make sure your kids can sleep with noise. My kids will sleep during anything. Maybe keep a radio on while they are going to sleep?

If you are staying at a value, you could request a first floor room. We saw people take their little table and two chairs and set them outside their room while the kids were sleeping. They had snacks and beverages (some of them adult beverages) and seemed to be having a good time.

First time that we went with our children they were 4 and 2 and we stayed at the WL. It drove me crazy that at night time we had to be quiet and no lights on. I could even read, the kids were exhausted but so excited it took an hour of "downtime" to ge them asleep. Next year we bought into DVC, problem solved. I would stay at an value suite or if cost is not an issue 1br at a deluxe.

Our solution....We stay in a 1bdr dvc villa. We like our privacy, and the master bedroom has a King bed.We also LOVE the Whirlpool tub in the bathroom, which at the end of a long park day soothes our aching legs. Our 5 yr old sleeps in the living room on the pullout sofa. It is cheaper to do a 1bdr villa than a suite too

We had 3 kids in a standard room at pop and it was fine. I never felt like I had to "tiptoe around" for the kids to sleep. Honestly, we usually were all so tired it was nice to lay in bed and just watch tv for a while. The kids would always fall asleep. A couple of times the 2 year old fell asleep very early and he was dead to the world, we did head outside and sit there on the bench by the lake. There's really nothing else to do in the room anyway except sleep or watch tv. Just simple talking from DH and I didn't bother the kids.

We have gone 3 times with kids with out any problems. All 3 times with them were at the Poly standard room.

My kid were 15 mo, next trip 4½ & 22 mo & the last trip 7½, almost 5 & 2½.

We never had any issues. We even had the TV on at night while they were falling asleep or asleep.

They napped during our mid-day break with out issues too.

And believe me we napped too some days (OK my dh daily) & went to sleep when they did.

Have you looked at the ASMusic Family Suites? We love these for the price - it isn't much more than two rooms at the values, you get two bathrooms, two tvs, a "kitchenette" which includes microwave, coffeemaker, and small fridge. The rooms aren't huge, but it is just what we needed - two separate rooms. The bedroom has a queen bed, too. The Family Suites are in the "preferred" section of the resort, so they are relatively near the front (where the food court and bus stop are located).

We stayed at WL in a standard room the first trip with kids, and while we love the WL (we honeymooned there), the sleep situation was awful. We stayed in a Family Suite the second time, and we are staying in Family Suite on our third family trip.

Here's a thread with lots of info...

Another option, although more expensive than ASMusic Family Suites but still less expensive than the DVC resorts, are the Fort Wilderness Cabins.

If all you are looking for is the two room set up, either of those will work and will be less money than DVC resorts.

Have a great trip!

You could also book a family suite at ASM.

Two rooms at a value is the best bargain in our opinion. It is WAY cheaper than the cabin at FW, and even cheaper (usually) than one family suite at ASMu. Two bathrooms, two tv's, four beds, and a door to (almost) close between you and the kids is priceless! Have a great trip.
