One Way Trip to Canada, Eh? FINAL THOUGHTS 08/10

Wow I'm behind. I enjoyed DL 13 hrs ago. It was just before they began construction on Cali adventure. Well go ack someday. Those carts are scary.

DLR has changed alot in 13 yrs! It is not the same as WDW, really. You have to see it for its own charm. I'm disappointed that they are changing CA so much - it was not supposed to be total MK - KWIM? It is going to be kind of like DHS, I guess.

okay got through it all, and i am enjoying it you should have given me a nudge on my report, i had no idea you had this going.

the video of the boat going under the bridge is pretty cool.

and that picture of you guys, are you sure that is your face, it looks sort of like you but not fully...i guess it is though,:)

how long did it take you to put the costumes on?

or am i being dumb here nad that is just your face imposed on the rest of it, becuase the beard on the pirate chinny chin chin does look pretty real and therefore not really a costum make up.

am i making any sense.

Hey, thanks for reading, Dan! It is our faces, but not our bodies (I wish :lmao:) She just had us sit individually in front of a blue screen and told us how to move our heads. I was amazed that the coloring on the model matched mine so well that everyone thinks it was costumes! No Jim has a 5 O'clock shadow, but doesn't grow a beard in a day!:goodvibes

That's interesting about the strawberry field hold-out next to Disneyland.

We have been following it for years through Leonard. We all knew some day it would happen. DL was built on an orange grove.

After our pirate adventure, we noticed the Dream Suite like Cinderella’s castle at MK. This actually has a POC theme to it, and it’s right above POC

IMGP2593.jpg

IMGP2592.jpg

We noticed some kind of work being done at Tom Sawyer’s Island, which is actually at present Pirate’s Lair, with pirate adventures and sometimes Jack Sparrow pops out and surprises guests!

IMGP2594.jpg

IMGP2595.jpg

We headed back through adventure land to get a FP for TMRR.
IMGP2596.jpg

Rancho del Zocalo, one of our favorite eateries at DL-Do you see the couple inside the courtyard? It was so cute they were kissing for a picture their daughter was taking of them. I waited politely for them to finish before I took the pic – it just seemed too intrusive!

IMGP2597.jpg

IMGP2598.jpg

With Splash Mtn closed, two FP in hand and the FP systems not being connected in the two parks, we decided to see what we could get on in CA and then come back and finish up in DL later. Had to snap a pic of the iconic MATTERHORN! So funny it used to be THE ride in the park!:goodvibes

IMGP2599.jpg

There is a lot of construction going on – they are changing the entrance to CA. There is a fun display here with candid photos from the park which play across this display – there was one of a military member proposing – very sweet!

Soon we were inside and previewing the GG Bridge!

IMGP2607.jpg

I love this Diner made from an old train. It hosts B-u-r-r-Bank Ice Cream and Baker’s Field Bakery.

IMGP2609.jpg

We got a FP for Soarin’ Over California and headed through wine country on our way to see if we could ride TSM, which doesn’t have a FP here. We decided we didn’t want to get wet, so we skipped Grizzly River Run and weren’t in to screamin’ upside down, so we skipped California Screamin’ too! I guess we were into staying relaxed!

IMGP2610.jpg

COMING SOON! Cars Land! – with the backdrop to Radiator Springs clearly in the background. I'm pushing for a Sept trip for our anniversary - this should be open by then!

IMGP2611.jpg

Another walk-by. I snapped this in between kids posing with them!

IMGP2612.jpg

loved the fun California Pier atmosphere here the way it was, and people just didn’t get it, so they have changed it to make it more “Disneyish” So here is the new and improved Mickey’s Fun Wheel. Still a stunning picture as you walk up - a really fun Ferris Wheel - some of the cars move on a rail while you go around - love it!!!:yay:

IMGP2613.jpg

IMGP2614.jpg

This Paradise Pier logo was a Mickey Head - you go upside down here in Calif Screamin' Why did they remove Mickey from this ride and add him to the Fun Wheel right next door?

IMGP2615.jpg

Fun little patriotic gazebo – Disney Weddings? Political Rallies?

IMGP2616.jpg

Hidden Mickey!!
IMGP2617.jpg

Even the restroom tiles over here are cute!

IMGP2619.jpg

We found that TSM showed a 40 minute wait, which didn’t look quite that long, so we hopped in line. It was exactly right, I think. Here, the queue is just a line – it runs inside the building and back out, but no fun giant toys on display, or Andy’s room. I was hoping they would change that, but not yet.

IMGP2620.jpg

Finally, we were shooting and spinning!

IMGP2621.jpg

IMGP2622.jpg

We went through the first round almost tied, but in the end, Jim edged further away at each turn, and kicked my butt!

IMGP2624.jpg

Jim thought I would make a good action figure:

IMGP2625.jpg

I think he was hoping I would stay in the box! We noticed Jesse and the soldiers holding court.

IMGP2618.jpg

Midway Fun!

IMGP2626.jpg

We went back to the front and ate at Taste Pilot’s Grill next door to Soarin’
http://disneyland.disney.go.com/disneys-california-adventure/taste-pilots-grill/

We both had the BBQ chicken sandwich and onion rings. It was really delish! There was a huge condiment bar with all kinds of toppings and sauces. We ate outside – it was a 80 degree day with a nice breeze blowing. We finished our lunch and headed over to Soar over California. This ride seems to be getting a little tired, and needs some refurbishment, but we enjoyed it just as much as always!

We looked through a couple of shops – DGS Mason, 4 asked for a backpack from DL, and we had been unable to locate a little boy’s backpack anywhere. With no luck on the backpack, we bid a fond farewell to CA and headed back to DL.

IMGP2627.jpg

Back to Frontierland to ride the Rootinist Tootinst Ride in the West!

We saw the POC Sneak Peek area all set up for the evening’s performance. They are using the Big Thunder Ranch area – which is sometimes a Western BBQ area. Can't wait for this movie!!!

IMGP2630.jpg

We took the trail back toward the castle and tomorrowland, and ran in to this lucky Thanksgiving Turkey, pardoned by President Obama last November:

IMGP2631.jpg

IMGP2632.jpg

CONT NEXT POST:

We headed through the castle and stopped to enjoy this classic Snow White statue with her friends - if you listen close, you can hear her singing

IMGP2633.jpg

Lots of little girls and boys waiting to turn in to fairies at Pixie Hollow:

IMGP2634.jpg

We made it over to Tomorrowland and had a screaming Space Adventure! I love the updates to this ride! Large two person cars and much darker and faster feeling than at MK.

IMGP2635.jpg

At this time, I heard the voice of pineapple deliciousness calling my name, and we had to head back through the castle to Adventureland to answer the call:

IMGP2636.jpg

IMGP2637.jpg

IMGP2638.jpg

We sat on a bench around the hub circle and just enjoyed the 80 degree sunshine and the cool breeze and our tropical pineapple heaven!

IMGP2639.jpg

At this point, we decided we had done what we came to do today, and were ready to head home. We hopped on the bus, which was only half full and found our way back to the car.

We arrived home about 4:30 pm and shortly afterward, Leonard came home from work and we headed over to Fatburger for some delicious burgers and fries. Caitlin wasn’t done with play practice until 11pm, so we waited up and watched Disney Channel, and headed for bed soon after she came home.

Next: Anchors Aweigh!!!!

This post made hungry....

We took my mom on that ferris wheel but didn't tell her we got on the one that moves on the tracks. Kids loved it, we laughed so hard on that thing.

Also put the kids in that toy box.

Love all the pictures. Did you got to World of Colour or am I getting head of you?

Loving your report and you aren't even on the ship yet :) I think the gazebo is a Duffy the Bear meet and greet. I liked DCA, but after seeing what is in store, I will LOVE the transformation to 1930's Hollywood when Walt arrived. I think CarsLand is scheduled to open in summer of 2012.

:rotfl2: at your mom riding the wheel! We did that to our DDIL too! Laughed until I cried!
No, we didn't do WOC. I wanted to, but we didn't want to be rude to our hosts and skip out on our last evening there. Some other time.

Thanks! Oh a Duffy Gazebo! They are really trying to create that fad here like in Japan. I think I'll like the transformation, too - it will go with the Soarin' area. Oh, something opens this summer. Maybe Little Mermaid?

Yes, Little Mermaid and the new Star Tours open in June, oh and the redone but still the same ride Goofy's Sky School..that wacky roller coaster thing that is at the fence to the Grand Californian.

Hi Tammi, I'm enjoying your report, makes me wish I was there again instead of work. Julia and I must have past you and Jim at least a couple of times in our wandering around the parks. When we walked by the gazebo Sailor Mickey was signing autographs there, I think she put a picture in her TR.

oh..ok..just Sailor Mickey? I thought they were doing signings with Mickey and Duffy to try and push Duffy on folks...maybe they gave that up :)

Hi Thanks! Too bad we didn't meet up! I was going to put my LGMH on my bag, but I forgot. That would be a good place to see sailor Mickey. I'll have to look for her pic in the TR!

Thanks! You are just going to have to plan a trip to take Parker out to see Car's Land! Oh, and the new baby, too! Are you keeping the baby's sex a secret?

Cynthia! Great to see you! :yay: When is your HI trip?

Good Lord! You were there? Oh, I guess last week we were in Vancouver and Seattle - just missed each other.

Yeah, you really have to allow time for the parking.

I did report it in an email, and Target gave me a phone number to call with more details - I need to contact Gail and see if she wants to give her info - I'm thinking not, but I can at least tell them which store so they can look into it. I'm mostly worried about children's teeth!:scared1:

ok now I want to go to Fatburger! I have a groupon burning a hole in my pocket but...really should use it for more than one person :rotfl:

LOL Tammie. I've been to HI and WDW and am back from both trips. I was in FL while you were on the cruise, Hawaii was actually before that.

FUN updated, makes me want to go to DL soon! Jeff has said once carsland opens we are going back but now that WDW in 2012 looks official, I have a feeling that will wait.

enjoying your report:goodvibes

Thanks Julia! I looked at all your DL and cruise pics on FB today - lots of fun!

We really liked Fatburger - that was a new one for us!
Wow - I forgot about your FL trip - you lived out of a suitcase for awhile!
Do you have a way to break the news to the boys yet?

I'm really stalled out in life right now - I just want to sit here and plan a trip or read the DIS or something. Serious withdrawals. :sad2:
We are heading back to LA at the end of the month, so I should be happy and productive, but I just can't seem to get over the doldrums.
