One Way Trip to Canada, Eh? FINAL THOUGHTS 08/10

Easter Sunday. Our hosts don’t attend church, so we had a relaxing BBQ day planned. I woke up early and made coffee, and Jim and Leonard and I hid Easter eggs before Caitlin got up. Gail had found huge plastic eggs big enough to put Perry and the top and a dress in each of them, as well as some Medium sized eggs for other goodies and the regular eggs. Caitlin got a kick out of the giant eggs!
Gail made a delicious brunch with eggs and bacon, fresh strawberries and bagels, cheeses and meats. Leonard started his famous ribs on the grill, and we watched Tangled. We called the grandkids in Texas to see what they wanted from DL. They were really excited we would be going there and happy to put in their orders! Myles, 6 , wanted a “Disney Ice Buzz and Woody with skates on!” Hmmm, tall order. Londynn, 3, wanted a Rapinzle who is “Ariel’s age.” She has a 2 ft tall Ariel, and she wanted a Rapunzle (she says Rapinzle) the same size. She already had a “tiny Rapinzle and she’s naked!” LOL!
We finished making a dinner of baked potatoes, sautéed mushrooms, salad along with the ribs and Costco chickens cut and smoked again on the grill. Yumm Yumm! We had a very quiet family day – very nice!

Day 3
We got up early and dropped Caitlin off at school for a 12 hr play practice! We headed to Ruby’s for breakfast! http://www.rubys.com/ Jim and Gail had Burgers, I had pecan waffles and a scrambled egg. We headed over to Target and found some fun goodies for the kids in the $2 bins, as well as a pop up hamper for our cruise! I found 2 bottles of my favorite Cab, Sterling Vintner’s. On our way out to the car with the cart, disaster struck!

Gail was pushing the cart down the sidewalk and we were talking and all of a sudden SLAM! The cart stopped moving but Gail didn’t. :scared1: She was slammed violently by cart in a very delicate area. Apparently there is a magnetic field at a certain spot in the sidewalk, causing the brakes to suddenly slam down and the cart to stop moving, so you can’t remove the carts. There were no warning signs or anything. This was very painful and I feel it is dangerous – a child could have had their teeth knocked out. :headache: I told Gail to report it, but she was embarrassed and in a lot of pain. We grabbed our bags out and headed for the car. After a little time for Gail to regroup, we headed for the Character Warehouse and DTD to get our shopping done for the grandbabies. We found lots of treasures, but had a hard time finding an outfit for Mason, 4 – of course there are no Buzz and Woody on skates at the park, if they exist anywhere, and Rapunzle doesn’t come in “Ariel’s Age” yet, but we found the largest they are making, and got a Phineas and Ferb “pimp my ride” car set for Myles. We got a lot of treasures for all 4 of them – a little extra for Mason because he had his 4th birthday on May 4th. On the way out, we noticed a fun digital photo Kiosk, and decided to get another decoration for our cabin door:

Leonard had been given a pair of Uggs that were too big for him, so he gave them to Jim. He told me he was wearing them to DL with his shorts:

I nixed this idea,:lmao: so I packed them up in the car and when we were done shopping, we headed to a UPS store and had all of our items shipped to DS Ryan's home here in town.

We headed home and I took a nap in the sun out by the pool – not warm enough to swim, but I enjoyed the sun. When I woke up, Leonard was home from work, and we make plans to go out for a quick dinner at Panda Express near Angel’s stadium. We had planned for Caitlin to be out of practice by 9pm, but it got to be 10:30 by the time she was done. We headed to Rite Aid for an ice cream cone (Len’s favorite) and headed to the school to wait for her to come out. We all headed to bed pretty quickly after arriving home. Tomorrow would be our DL day! :yay:

Sounds like a nice relaxing start. Hopefully the cold took a back seat so you could enjoy your vacation!

OMG thats awesome. Im cracking up here!

OH how sweet! Cant wait to see what the door looks like all decorated lol

Wow! Sounds like you had a good start to your vaction! I can't wait to hear more. The picture of you and Jim is riot! Jim is too funny, he's all straight faced even in this picture! :rotfl:

Enjoying your report!..I had the same icky cold as you...cough/hack.
Those stupid carts..I had a run in with them also. I work part time at an entertainment store that is in the same lot as a Walgreens. I'd worked and then walked over to Walgreens for a few things and found a huge deal on toliet paper so had this cart loaded up and I'm trying to get to my car and WHAM..stopped dead..and it stopped right in the driving area where people who are getting their prescriptions filled go through, so it's really like a street and I couldn't just leave the basket there and it didn't seem to want to go backwards either, so I'm basically lifting it and jerking it around to get it out of the driving area, then having to make a bunch of trips with toilet paper to get my stuff in the car. Very frustrating.

Thanks! I hope you're feeling better now. Those carts are going to have to be outlawed, I think. I sent an email to Target, and they want a call with all the info so they can look into it. I just don't think they've thought this one through.

Just found your report Tammie....sorry! One of these days I'll get caught up.

Glenn! Welcome!:yay: Don't worry. I'm way behind, too! Nice to see you here when you can!

Enjoying your cruise report, Tammie! :)

Jen! Thank you! :cheer2:

I'm not sure when I'll see him wear them, either, probably for a quick run in the snow to the mailbox or something.

Yes, I don't think pirates use much soap. pirate:

Yuki! Welcome! :cheer2:

Today Jim and I were planning to head to DL! Our plan was to be there for RD, which isn’t a big deal like at MK, but they let you on Main Street and play fun music and make a big announcement, “Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, Disneyland is now open!” I was a little late getting ready, so we were too late for RD, but I was excited when we got to Disney Way
IMGP2573.jpg

We found that the parking lot was now in a previous strawberry field that was long coveted my Walt himself. The owner finally passed away after holding out for 50 years, and the children sold to Disney, who “paved paradise and put up a parking lot!” After parking in Woody 18 –
IMGP2574.jpg

we boarded a bus and rode about 3 miles to the entrance. We were surprised by this development, and the driver told us that they are using the old parking area to expand CA and put in Cars Land, soon to be opening!

Soon we were jumping off in DTD and headed for the bag check area. This bag check happens before the entrance to both parks and before the ticket booths, so you only have to go through once for both DL and CA.

We bought the military special, which is a 3 day park hopper for the same price as one day, and it doesn’t expire until Oct 1st. This means we will be back, maybe twice this year!! We are thinking about upgrading our remaining two days to an AP with the DVC discount when we return, which will be Memorial Day weekend for Caitlin’s grad. It was now about 10:30 am, but the crowds were low, so it was okay. We passed through the magic bridge into DL, and immediately saw some character greetings.
I rarely wait in line for characters without kids, but I like to take “walk-by” photos.

There was some kind of construction going on at the Emporium

IMGP2576.jpg

I had to stop and take a pic of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle! I was feeling the Magic!

"Never forget it was all started by a mouse."

IMGP2578.jpg

We headed to Tomorrow Land,
IMGP2581.jpg

and got a FP for SM. We decided to skip Buzz today, as the line was already quite long and it was just a relaxing day. We headed through the castle to Adventureland, and found that IJ(Indiana Jones) was only a 30 minute wait. We could see by where the queue ended up it would actually be shorter than that. In fact, we only waited about 5 min longer than the FP people who came up with us. I love the theming here, and a lot of time, we are racing through with a FP and don’t really see it. The line was moving so fast, I didn’t really get a lot of good pics, but picture a wrecked 1930’s Jeep in the jungle with old radio equipment around it, and then the beginning of the temple scene. JC actually sails in the right behind this area, so they are backdrops for each other!

IMGP2582.jpg

I tried to take a couple of shots inside, but couldn't stand still long enough for the shutter speed.
IMGP2588.jpg

Here is the pre-boarding video – love it! This is my all time favorite ride! I love the kitschiness of it all!

IMGP2586.jpg

We hopped in our Jeep and were on our way to help rescue Indy, or find the jewels or something like that!

IMGP2590.jpg

We headed over New Orleans Square, where POC is at DL. We love Pirates here!!! I didn’t take pics, as my camera doesn’t do well in the dark with no flash.

NEXT: Tropical Heaven!

Phew! Finally made it over and am ready to dive right in!!

Your Days 2 and 3 sounded like great fun with your friends. Well, all except the near death experience by shopping cart! OUCH! But BBQ always makes all my boo-boos go away. The egg hunt sure sounded fun too! I"ve never seen eggs big enough to put clothes in!

And now you're on your way to DLR and have taken in your first rides. POTC IS WAY BETTER in Ca.! Longer and with that cool bayou scene in the beg. I always loved that guy on the rocking chair with the fireflies sparkling around!

I'm like you- quick fly by pix of the characters. Usually the lines are just way too long for me.

OH yeah, I wanted to add: As much as I love the Indiana Jones ride, I just can't do it. It's too much like Dinosaur and hurts my neck.

Great TR so far, Tammie!

Liesa! Thanks for being here!:yay: I love POC at DL! The beginning with the Bayou and the restaurant with the music and the fireflies is the best! I love that guy in the chair by the cabin too. I loved how they re-created the scene in the 2nd POC movie.

Oh, I don't have too much trouble with my neck on this one, but the Matterhorn is out for me!

Thanks for reading!

I thought about Blue Bayou as I rode POC last week wishing they'd put it in, in FL. It is SUCH a great restaurant (ambiance at least, years since i ate there) and I miss seeing it.

Good to know about the parking, I'll have to remember that next time we go if we stay offsite.

That shopping cart thing...OW. I would have reported it, that's really dangerous.

Cynthia! Great to see you! :yay: When is your HI trip?

Good Lord! You were there? Oh, I guess last week we were in Vancouver and Seattle - just missed each other.

Yeah, you really have to allow time for the parking.

I did report it in an email, and Target gave me a phone number to call with more details - I need to contact Gail and see if she wants to give her info - I'm thinking not, but I can at least tell them which store so they can look into it. I'm mostly worried about children's teeth!:scared1:

sounds like an awesome start. I have never been to a RD here.. or in WDW lol.. someone is always lagging. SOMEDAY I will. I love the feeling of walking down main street but I enjoy Cali Adventure more cuz of the rides LOL

Yes, we are going to go into Ticker Withdrawal. :sad2: I am researching trips and reading TRs in the meantime just to get out of bed in the am. :rotfl:

Wow I'm behind. I enjoyed DL 13 hrs ago. It was just before they began construction on Cali adventure. Well go ack someday. Those carts are scary.

okay got through it all, and i am enjoying it you should have given me a nudge on my report, i had no idea you had this going.

the video of the boat going under the bridge is pretty cool.

and that picture of you guys, are you sure that is your face, it looks sort of like you but not fully...i guess it is though,:)

how long did it take you to put the costumes on?

or am i being dumb here nad that is just your face imposed on the rest of it, becuase the beard on the pirate chinny chin chin does look pretty real and therefore not really a costum make up.

am i making any sense.
