Since this is a bump of an older thread, I'll add some recent info.
If you don't want multiple MagicBands, do NOT customize your bands on the
MDE website. If you don't customize them, they will NOT ship to you. Bands will be offered at check-in, which can be declined.
Overall I doubt the cost of the bands leaps off the P&L statement. Think about all of the other consumables WDW burns though regularly: check-in packets, park maps & time guides, balloons, stickers, restaurant supplies, guest room supplies, previously KTTW cards...
The issue of multiple bands is magnified for
DVC members because of the sheer number of return visits and split stays. Hotel guest habits are very different.
A DVC member splitting a weeklong stay among 3 resorts instead is getting 3 full room cleanings rather than just 1. Anyone concerned over the annual dues impact of this practice?
It's part of the cost of doing business.
