so i just did this.....booked a 141 point week at BLT tower yesterday and called today and bought 24 one time use points that went towards that reservation. she put back the 24 points into a contract and i could bank them for my next use year 2015. SO you CAN buy points when you dont need them to save the points for a 7th month 8am reservation.

I think folks misunderstood what you were asking on your post from Monday.

Phrased differently, you are permitted to purchase one-time-use points when making a reservation, even if you have enough points for that reservation in your account.

What you can't do, which is what I think folks thought you were asking, is call Member Services and ask to purchase one-time-use points without them being part of a reservation, and then bank those one-time-use points to the next year.

In the OPs case, they made the reservation yesterday and purchased the OTU points today. Even this is not supposed to be allowed:
One-time-use vacation points cannot be applied retroactively to existing reservations.

If some or all of the nights were still available for booking it would not be an issue.

That's what I was thinking. If MS was able to cancel and rebook, then they didn't consider that they were applying OTU points retroactively to an existing reservation.

That is good to hear and is different from when it first started. And I agree, if the reservation was made yesterday, there was a good chance today that the room was still available...for 24 points, it really only needed to be one night of the reservation to do this.

She did not need to do anything with the reservation she just gave me back 24 points after I paid her the 360. She said as long as it was made in the 7th month window you can do this 1 time per use year

She may have canceled one night and rebooked using the one time points. It would not change the reservation number of anything, but you can't substitute points unless something is canceled and then re-booked.

Being only a day apart, I would suspect there was plenty of availability to do this. If you really want to know how it was done, look at the point activity statement as that will show you exactly what happened and how it was achieved.

Still goes against DVC own rules:

On the surface, it sounds like it was something that wasn't supposed to be done, but if the night was still available, they probably canceled the night and rebooked with the new points. In that case, its a new reservation for that night which was then added back to the original so not breaking the rules.

So, If I am following this correctly, At 7 mos, I can cancel my 11 mo reservation (If I find a different resort available that I like) then buy the 24 points for the new reservation allowing me to bank more points for next year.

Yes, it sounds like they are now allowing people to buy up to 24 points, even when current UY points are still available.

Originally, it was given as an alternative to borrowing or for those that found themselves just a few points short due to some point reallocations, but it sounds like the rules have changed...
