"One Step Ahead of the Slowpokes!"- A Dec '10/Jan '11 Trip Report! FINISHED 3/9 pg 38

OK, let me first start by saying SORRY FOR BEING A TR SLACKER!!!! I have read every update, I just haven't had time to comment on them!!

All of your meals sound amazing!!! I'm glad to see that we weren't the only ones stuffing ourselves silly on the DxDP! We really enjoyed it, and are debating it for our big trip this year.

The pics of you guys in Osbourne lights are great! You are such a cute couple!

I can't wait until Olivia is old enough for to do the drawing classes! I would love to have a collection of drawings we have done over time!

How cool that you got the same server at 50s PTC that served you on your Honeymoon!! :cool1:

Lol at John being told off for having his elbows on the table!

Your entree sounds yummy! popcorn:: Also thanks for the tip to avoid s'mores and go for the 50s Boston cream cupcake :thumbsup2

We were seated at one of those tables that is half booth and half table, so we were surrounded on all sides by people. We didn’t mind this, though. It was nice and cozy compared to the freezing cold outdoors. I really felt like I was in my mom’s kitchen! :cloud9:

While we waited for our server I snapped a picture of one of the nearby “kitchen” areas. I always wanted to eat in one of these areas. I love how much they look like a really 1950’s kitchen, right down to the mismatched trinkets!

DisneyChristmasTrip2010273.jpg

I think everybody does the same thing. Sci Fi for lunch and Prime Time for dinner. That's our plan in October too so I'm especially liking this day in time from your trip.

Before long our waiter arrived, and John and I instantly remembered him. He was the same waiter we had on our honeymoon! His name was Byron and we both remembered him because he was so funny! John and I were so excited to have him as our server again because he really played the part and made the experience fun.

How cool was that?!?

We ordered our drinks (a diet soda and regular soda, of course) and our appetizers. John got the chicken noodle soup and I got the blue claw crab cake.

DisneyChristmasTrip2010275.jpg

John said his soup was “okay,” but I think he only ordered it because he knew his meal came with an appetizer. The only appetizer that really appealed to him on the menu was onion rings and he had just eaten those for lunch, so I don’t think chicken noodle soup was really what he wanted.

PC270356.jpg

My crab cake was just okay too. The crab cake itself was really good, but I didn’t realize that it came with succotash. I absolutely HATE succotash. I guess it’s because I’m not a big fan of lima beans. Anyway, I didn’t like that part. It also had some kind of chili sauce on it that I wasn’t too crazy about because it was really sweet. It was topped with crispy onions, which gave it a nice crunch. Overall I give it an “ehhh”. :confused3

I was actually thinking how my son would have a problem because he will probably order onion rings at Sci Fi and then want them at Prime Time but not really. :rotfl:

I'm sad to hear the crab cake wasn't all that and a bag of chips. I was planning on ordering it but your description doesn't sound good at all.

When Byron came back to take our entrée orders he immediately started picking on John for having his elbows on the table! John and I were both cracking up and enjoying his jokes. :rotfl:

For his entrée John ordered what I think is the pork loin, but I can’t be entirely sure. I looked it up online and the description said “grilled boneless pork loin glazed with peppered mushroom gravy, with mashed potatoes and green beans.” That looks like what’s on his plate, so we’ll go with it! ;)

PC270359.jpg

Whatever it was, he liked it!

For my entrée I ordered a special that usually isn’t on the menu. I was having a hard time deciding between the meatloaf and the fried chicken, so when Byron said they had a special with fried chicken, meatloaf, and pot roast (and I could get it on the dining plan) I knew I had to have that!

PC270358.jpg

This entrée was mmm mmm good! The meatloaf was my favorite. It was on a bed of crispy green beans and carrots. I also loved the fried chicken and mashed potatoes. I’m not a huge fan of pot roast, but even it was delicious. It was very tender! I loved this entrée, and I think John regretted not getting it!

That special was made for you! And me! Hope they have it when we go.

After stuffing ourselves silly we barely had room for dessert, but we made room! John ordered Dad’s brownie sundae and I had the s’mores!

PC270361.jpg

John was very impressed with his dessert. I don’t think there was much there to dislike, since it was brownie with vanilla icecream, hot fudge, and caramel!

PC270360.jpg

I regretted my dessert decision as soon as it arrived at the table. :headache: I had read on the DIS that the chocolate on the s’mores was hot fudge, so I don’t know why I ordered it! Especially since there was a 50’s Boston cream cupcake on the menu that sounded amazing! I ate it anyway (of course) and it wasn’t bad. Next time I will definitely get the cupcake!

Been planning on the cupcake myself. Who uses fudge on smores? Too bad because they look perfectly toasted.

Up Next: John gets jealous of the new man in my life! Stay tuned for the best character interaction we’ve ever had!

This sounds very interesting.

I can't believe I missed your Osborne Lights update! Aren't they amazing!! :cool1: The thought of not seeing them this year is SO sad to me! :sad1:

Mmm 50's Prime Time looks great! I'm afraid to go there, though, I'm afraid I'd get yelled at and I'd cry or something! :rotfl: That fried chicken looks awesome, I love fried chicken!

Ugh, I don't get what is up with that s'more, with hot fudge for chocolate! It looks like it would be so good, too, if it had real chocolate! :thumbsup2

I'm so glad I got to see the Osborne lights last year. It was so amazing :lovestruc Ahh I am so jealous they played the Home Alone music while you were there! I love that movie :)

ooOOo okay now I know what dessert I'm getting next time I'm at 50's! That Boston creme cupcake is totally up my alley!

The Osborne lights are amazing! I was so excited to hear the Home Alone music! I love it too! Such a classic! :goodvibes

I'm still so mad at myself for not getting that cupcake! You'll have to let me know how it is!

OK, let me first start by saying SORRY FOR BEING A TR SLACKER!!!! I have read every update, I just haven't had time to comment on them!!

Don't apologize, I have been a TR slacker too! I'm the same way, I read all the updates but don't have time to comment!

Oh trust me, we SO enjoyed stuffing ourselves silly on this trip! It was great! :thumbsup2

Thank you so much! :) I'm thinking that pic might be our Christmas cards next year!

That will be so great to have a collection of Olivia's drawings! I definitely want to do that when I have kids!

John loves getting in trouble at 50's Prime Time Cafe, and Byron never lets him off the hook! It was so great to see him again!

That meal was quite yummy, but I'm glad everyone is heeding my advice about the s'mores! They were very disappointing!

I think everybody does the same thing. Sci Fi for lunch and Prime Time for dinner. That's our plan in October too so I'm especially liking this day in time from your trip.

I'm glad my day coincided with yours! I hope my reviews were helpful! I hope you are able to get that entree on your trip. It was a great deal! :thumbsup2

I will be posting that update in just a few minutes!

They were amazing! I'm sad about not seeing them again too, but not sad about missing that crowd!

I understand what you mean, I'm always nervous about being yelled at when I go there too. They are pretty nice about it though. They seem to change how they act depending on the person. They always pick on John but not me. I think they can tell he can handle it better than I can!

It would have been great, if only it had been a Hershey bar instead of fudge! :confused3

Your Osborne lights pictures are great! We didn't wait in line for PP and now I regret that!

I love 50's PTC too! There is something so comforting about the atmosphere!

I'm think I was three updates behind but I'm all caught up now! First off - I can not believe that someone sneezed on you! Oh my gosh how absolutely disgusting! Maybe if it was a little kid I could understand them not covering their mouth, but a teenager?! :scared1:

Lunch at Sci-Fi sounds so yummy! After our last meal there it's a favorite of ours too! We got the double dip as well and agree that the spinach dip is the best. :thumbsup2 The salad you got sounds really good, although I'm not sure I could tear myself away from the cheeseburger! :lmao:

Cute Tigger pictures! Sorry to hear you weren't completely impressed with your meal at Prime Time. I'm kind of interested in trying it sometime, but I'm so shy I'm worried I'd be embarrased there!

Thanks! :) The PP line was really long, but it moved pretty quickly. I just enjoyed the lights while we waited!

I always feel like I am right in the middle of Leave it to Beaver or something like that when I eat there! So comforting! :goodvibes

I still can't get over the sneeze. I don't think I'll ever forget that! I try to shield my face in big crowds now!

The salad is really satisfying because they put a lot of steak on it! I'm usually not a salad kind of girl, but those are really substantial!

I don't think you have to worry about being embarassed! I worry about that too sometimes, but they can usually tell if you don't want them to pick on you and they leave you alone!

Yay! I have been so excited about doing this update, because it's one of my favorite memories from the trip! :goodvibes

After our filling dinner of comfort foods from 50's Prime Time Cafe John and I were both more than ready to go back to POP for a good night's sleep. It was still freezing cold, we were exhausted, and my head cold was getting worse and worse. I had a hot bathtub and some Nyquil in our cozy hotel room calling my name, but I just wasn't satisfied.

I told y'all earlier in this TR that I was on a mission to get as many PhotoPass pictures as possible. I just couldn't bring myself to go back to the room without getting a few more! :rolleyes1

John and I have met a lot of characters at Disney, but some we have never met are those from Toy Story. The Toy Story movies are some of our absolute favorites, so I'm not sure why we've never met them. Well, on this night I just so happened to be wearing my super cute Toy Story shirt, so I asked John if we could please please pleeeease go meet whoever was available across from TSM before we went back to our room.

Being the fabulous husband that he is, he agreed without arguing and we walked over to see who we could meet. We peeked in the window and saw Buzz and Woody together and I got really excited. The line was all the way out the door of the meet and greet building (I think it's called Pixar Place) but I didn't care. I was going to get some pictures in my Toy Story shirt!

As soon as we got in line a CM walked up and told us that Buzz was about to leave and we would only be meeting Woody. Fine. We didn't care. I like Woody better than Buzz anyway!

The line in this building twisted and turned through different scenes from Toy Story, and we had to listen to a whole lot of sleepy kids whining and fussing, but about twenty five minutes later it was our turn to meet Woody!

I wasn't expecting much from this interaction. Mickey Mouse had been kind of a let down earlier in the day, so I just wanted to get my pictures and jet. Boy was I surprised!

As soon as Woody saw us he instantly spotted my shirt. He pointed at it, got really excited, and gave me a huge hug!

Photo0080FourBySix.jpg

John loves to meet the characters too, so he came over to say hi. When Woody saw him he started pointing at his skull hoodie then back at my shirt, as if to say, "Where's your Toy Story shirt?" John just laughed and shrugged his shoulders, so Woody playfully pushed him away and started fawning over me again.

Photo0088FourBySix.jpg

This picture is hilarious, because this was John's reaction. He was standing off to the side and cracking up. Woody was completely ignoring him!

Photo0090FourBySix.jpg

Everytime John would come back over to get in the picture Woody would push him away again. We were all cracking up, even the CM taking the photos. Woody just kept giving me the star treatment! :rotfl:

Photo0091FourBySix.jpg

Photo0093FourBySix.jpg

Finally after about five minutes of playing around Woody let John get in the picture!

Photo0096FourBySix.jpg

However, he couldn't resist messing with John one more time! Check out the bunny ears in this picture! :lmao:

Photo0097FourBySix.jpg

This was honestly the best character interaction we have ever had! We gave Woody big hugs and thanked him and headed back to our resort with happy hearts. :cloud9: I kept joking around with John (his Army buddies call him John Wayne) telling him that there was a new cowboy in my life! John was cracking up, and saying he'd have to keep a close eye on me around Woody from now on! :rotfl:

Up Next: The day isn't quite over yet! A few more surprises are coming my way! :wizard:

Love the Woody pics! :goodvibes That's so cute that he liked your shirt. I think John took the rejection very well. :lmao:

I just found your TR tonight and I have only read up to the LTT review... but I am definitely subbing so I can catch up :) I figure since it's easter tomorrow (well actually it's easter today! hey happy easter!) and it's already 12:44 I should probably get some sleep!

Just a quick note before I go.. I love how you write and I can tell you're an english person! :thumbsup2 I am too! Not like to the point where I could teach it.. but I like it better than math and science. I'm taking AP English right now and it's REALLY hard.. but I would pick that over AP Chem or Bio any day!

Anywho... I love your TR! I can't wait to keep reading! YAY! :yay:

One of our best interactions on our 2006 trip was with Woody and Jessie. Our daughter is named after Jessie. Literally, we let DS name her. When we told the big Jessie she got really excited and made a big deal out of it. Then she pointed at our daughter, then to herself and then to the book and I said, "Oh the same way with an 'ie'." DH was all confused how I understood what she was asking. Of course she also loved the cowgirl princess hat DD was wearing. Hmm, this has made me think of adding favorite character interactions to my PTR. :rotfl:

Glad you had a great experience with Woody and that somebody else had something say about that jacket. :rotfl2:

I love your pictures with Woody! It sounds like he's a fun character to meet! :cool1: I'm glad John took the rejection so well! :rotfl: I'm going to have to make sure I meet some Toy Story characters in October, I kept missing them last year! :)

I love your Woody interaction and pics - how great!! :wizard:

Yay on getting the star treatment - you look soo happy on all the pics and love the one with the bunny ears at the end!! :rotfl:

Hi! I just read through all of your updates so far and I'm really enjoying it! You are very detailed and good with explanations.

I'm still cringing over your sneeze experience. How disgusting!!!! I'm pretty sure if that had happened to me, that kid's parents would have gotten an ear-full. So you did better than I would have!

We were there in December and I totally feel your pain with the cold weather. It was much colder than we had anticipated. We made the best of it but my DH said we'll never go in the cold again if he has anything to say about it!

I don't think you've ever said where in NC you're from. We live in Greensboro. I think it took you about 90 minutes to get to Charlotte, which is the same amount it takes us. But you may be coming from a different direction. Anyway, if you don't want to say exactly where that's fine; I understand. But I'm pretty sure we're close!

Can't wait to read the rest! :goodvibes

What a great surprise to have such an awesome character experience!!! :goodvibes Your pictures are priceless!!! The way Woody was giving John the brush off - hysterical!!! :rotfl:

Love the Woody pics! :goodvibes That's so cute that he liked your shirt. I think John took the rejection very well. :lmao:

Thanks! :) At first I was afraid John was going to get his feelings hurt, because Woody is one of his all time favorites! Luckily he wasn't too upset! :lmao:

:welcome: and Happy Easter! Thanks for joining in!

Thank you so much for saying that! :) I always liked English waaaay more than math and science too! I loved AP English, but it is really tough. I teach all 9th grade English right now, so I'm not even sure if I would be able to teach AP! :rotfl:

Yeah, Woody wasn't a big fan of that hoodie either!

Thank you! :) He was so much fun! He is the only Toy Story character we've ever met, but now I want to meet more!

I love your Woody interaction and pics - how great!! :wizard:

Yay on getting the star treatment - you look soo happy on all the pics and love the one with the bunny ears at the end!! :rotfl:

Thank you! :) I was having a blast in those pics! They are some of my favorites from the trip!

The bunny ears one cracked me up! We didn't even notice that until we got back home and got our CD, so it was a nice surprise! :rotfl:

:welcome: and thank you for your kind words! I'm glad you are enjoying my TR! :)

Honestly, the only reason I didn't yell at the kid's parents was because I was already on the verge of tears and I knew that if I got angry I would cry even harder. I didn't want to cry in front of a bunch of people, so I just went and cried in the bathroom!

John is saying the same thing as your DH! I don't think we'll ever go back to Disney in the winter and that is just fine with me!

You live very close to us! We live just outside of Winston Salem! That is so cool! :goodvibes

What a great surprise to have such an awesome character experience!!! :goodvibes Your pictures are priceless!!! The way Woody was giving John the brush off - hysterical!!! :rotfl:

It was a great surprise and a perfect way to end our day at DHS! :goodvibes I love those pictures because they really tell the story of what happened!

:lmao: I love your Woody pictures :) That's such an awesome interaction :)

Thank you! It was so much fun! :)

Well, tomorrow it will be exactly four months since we left on our trip, so I guess this is a good time to finally finish our second day! :rotfl:

We made it back to our car in the DHS parking lot fairly quickly, which is good because I was exhausted and freezing. On the way back to POP we listened to our customary Disney trip music: my Classic Disney CD set that I got at the now extinct Virgin Megastore on our first trip! It is a five CD set that has all of the songs from the movies and the parks! I love it. The only song it doesn't have is the one they play on the radio on Kilimanjaro Safari! I have been searching for a place to download that song forever!

Anyway, I guess now is as good a time as any to explain our trip title, which is something I definitely should have done months ago. While listening to my Classic Disney CDs on this trip I made an interesting discovery. Apparently John LOVES that song from Aladdin. He kept requesting it over and over again, and before the end of the trip he knew all the words! He loves to sing the part in a weird voice when the lady is like "Still I think he's rather tasty!" I'm sure he would just love knowing that I told all of you that! :lmao:

Okay back to the trip report! We got back to POP and made the trek to our room. When we got in we realized we had a few nice surprises!

PC270363.jpg

PC270364.jpg

A card from Minnie and Mickey and a towel swan! How nice! I don't think we got a towel creature on our last trip so I was pretty happy. The PP card was pretty worthless to us since we had ordered the CD and didn't need the discounts, but I kept it anyway because it was pretty.

After we changed into some comfy clothes we went to the food court to fill up our resort mugs. On our way through the gift shop and into the food area we saw the coolest thing ever! They were having a gingerbread house contest for the CMs who worked at POP (I think that's who it was for ) and I had to stop and vote for this beauty!

PC270366.jpg

How cool is that?! It's the house from Up! I got so excited when I saw that, so I cheated and voted for it like three times. I know, I'm a rebel! :rotfl:

After we filled up our mugs with caffeinated goodness we decided to wander around the POP lobby a little. We went into the arcade and played a few games but we got bored quickly and decided to leave.

By this time I was really tired and really cranky because while trying to take a picture in the arcade I realized my memory card was full! :headache: That made no sense because my card is supposed to hold 2,000 pictures and I had only taken like 400! I was so upset because it was only the second day of our trip and now I had no means to take a picture!

We walked back to the room (Well, John walked. I sulked and dragged my feet like the big brat that I am.) and I decided to take a hot bath. While I was warming up John told me he was going to go get one more soda refill before we went to sleep. Wouldn't you know that my super sweet and amazing husband went back there just to buy me a way overpriced SD card for my camera? Sometimes he is just too much. He also brought me one more surprise!

PC270368.jpg

Yay! A POP pin! It has become my Disney tradition ever since our very first trip to get a pin for the resort where we stay. I was so excited! I'll tell you what ladies, Prince Charming ain't got nothin' on my hubby! ;)

And so ends our second fabulous day at Disney! I think we were both asleep before our heads hit the pillows.

Up Next: My cold finally gets the best of me. Exactly how much of our trip does it manage to spoil? Stay tuned to find out on our Epcot day! :wizard:
