"One Step Ahead of the Slowpokes!"- A Dec '10/Jan '11 Trip Report! FINISHED 3/9 pg 38

Had a few updates to catch up on! The desserts looked delicious and the fireworks phenomenal. How great that you got a table right up front! Oh, and thanks for sharing the video. Holiday Wishes is so amazing.

As far as getting the cowboy scene on GMR, ask for it. When they are filling both "cars" then it will be the first car that gets the cowboy and the second that gets the ganster.

How lucky you were to get the front of RnRC without asking!:woohoo:

At TSM for some reason if you are a group of two with fastpasses they send you to the right side, while everyone else heads to the left. Then they fill in the extra 2 when needed. It worked out well for us this trip, but I just don't understand why they do it the way they do.:confused3

Your Scrooge looks great!

I really want to try out the drawing classes on the Disneymoon - they sound like so much fun! We were going to go to one on our November trip, but we got there just as the doors were closing and we decided not to wait. Both of your pictures turned out great! :thumbsup2

I hate being stuck in a line for a ride when I know I have an ADR quickly approaching! I get so stressed out, too and it makes it hard to really enjoy your time on the attraction. :headache: It sounds like you had a great time on TSM, though! How cool that you had the best score of the hour! :woohoo:

That sucks about the cluelss CM. So wierd, I mean calling for a group of 2? Each side only holds 2 people... oh well, at least you won!!!

I have that same Toy Story shirt!!! :goodvibes Good taste!

Sounds like a good day except for that rotten CM. What the heck was he thinking? He probably forgot all about you!

We can't do the animation academy anymore. DS totally stresses and freaks out. He cried and pouted for the longest time the last trip. He even said the other day that he hoped we didn't do the drawing thing again because he thought it was too stressful.

Oh, and thank you for following my rule and posting over here before posting again on your PTR.:rotfl:

I have no clue what he was thinking, but John was about ready to smack him! :rotfl:

I understand where Animation Academy can be stressful. John always laughs at me because I take it super seriously, and if my drawing doesn't come out the way I want I pout for a long time.

No problem! ;) Trust me, I will not be abandoning my TR!

That Sorcerer Mickey actually looks a little creepy. Is it just me or is he really thin? Is he supposed to be that thin?

You drew an awesome Scrooge McDuck! I too was worried that we'd have to sit in the front row. I was so paranoid, and when we got in there, we didn't even fill up the entire class! Haha. I kept telling Howard that we had to make sure we got a desk!

I wonder if anyone in real life has ever called out for Steve during Indiana Jones just to reenact it! If so, I wonder what Disney would've done about the person!

Yeah, he was really thin. When I put my arm around him I could feel his boney shoulder.

Thank you! I was pretty proud of my Scrooge. I hate sitting in the front row! It's so hard to see without the lighted desk under you!

If I ever get up enough nerve maybe I will yell "STEVE!" during Indy. Although, I'm afraid they'd kick me out!

The pics with the Cheese himself look great but  on the interaction - am glad someone else made up for it :thumbsup2

Yay on getting to draw Scrooge McDuck - have not seen that one before.

Am glad you managed to ride TSMM after all the drama and :yay: on getting the best score of the hour :)

Thanks! The interaction was kinda stinky, but they pictures came our alright.

I had never seen anyone do the Scrooge drawing either! I was really excited about it.

I was so proud about getting the best score of the hour! Although, it was only like 1:05... :rolleyes1

Haha...I had to go back and look at the pics and you're right, he does look really skinny! Although, Joni, I do like the pics of you and Mickey, but I don't get why John is off to the side by himself! :confused3 It really does look like Mickey is totally ignoring him! Some of the characters are so weird!

I love the Scrooge drawings! I have to remember to do the drawing class on my next trip!

I'm not a huge Stitch fan, but when Brandon and I met him and Lilo at the Christmas party in 09, they were awesome, one of my favorite character experiences ever!

OMG the Disney Full House episode again! :rotfl: I totally thought of the same thing when we saw the Indiana Jones show too!

Yay, you got such a high score on TSM!

I know, I hate how John is sticking off to the side in these pictures! Mickey just completely ignored him. :headache:

Yes! You have to do Animation Academy! It is sooo much fun!

Stitch has always been a fun character experience for us too!

I think I have referenced that episode 1,000 times between my PTRs and here! I just love it!

I always do pretty well on TSM, but I stink on Buzz!

Aww how cool you got to draw Scrooge! Yours came out really good :) I love Animation Academy!

Less than 40 degrees? Yikes! :scared1: Haha I also think of Full House when I see Indy- ''STEVE!" :rotfl: I loved those episodes, they were some of the best!

Thank you! :) I love Animation Academy too! It's one of my favorite things to do!

Yeah, can you believe that temperature! :scared1: It was SO cold!

I loved those episodes too! Full House is my all time favorite show!

Your drawing came out fantastic! :thumbsup2 I would have been so anxious waiting for TSMM because of the ADR at Sci Fi too - I hope that CM didn't make you late for your lunch!

I still can't get over how cold it was for you guys! :sad2:

Thank you! :) I was pretty proud of it. I was stressing out before we loaded TSM, but once I got on I was able to relax a little!

Yeah, that cold weather definitely put a damper on the trip. Oh well, it was still fun! :goodvibes

Had a few updates to catch up on! The desserts looked delicious and the fireworks phenomenal. How great that you got a table right up front! Oh, and thanks for sharing the video. Holiday Wishes is so amazing.

Your Scrooge looks great!

The Dessert Party was so great and totally worth it! I'm glad you liked the video! :)

I didn't know that about requesting the cowboy scene! I will be sure to do that on our next trip!

That really doesn't make any sense to me. I could understand if the seats weren't made for two people, but it just seems so silly!

I really want to try out the drawing classes on the Disneymoon - they sound like so much fun! We were going to go to one on our November trip, but we got there just as the doors were closing and we decided not to wait. Both of your pictures turned out great! :thumbsup2

How cool that you had the best score of the hour! :woohoo:

The drawing classes are great! I highly recommend them! They make it so easy for anyone to draw, even if you have no artistic ability (like me)!

I hate that too! I didn't want to ride TSM until after we ate, but I figured we would have enough time. I was wrong!

That sucks about the cluelss CM. So wierd, I mean calling for a group of 2? Each side only holds 2 people... oh well, at least you won!!!

I have that same Toy Story shirt!!! :goodvibes Good taste!

Yeah, I still don't get why he did that. But I am glad I won! :thumbsup2

That's so cool that you have the same shirt! I love it! :goodvibes

After I finished completely creaming John at Toy Story Mania it became a mad dash for our 1:00 ADR at Sci Fi Dine-in Theater. It was already about 1:15, so we were practically running across DHS to get there. I was freaking out because I really didn’t want to miss this ADR. Sci Fi is one of my favorite restaurants at Disney!

Thanks to our extreme “walking with purpose” we made it Sci Fi in just a few minutes.

DisneyChristmasTrip2010262.jpg

We raced inside and apologized to the hostess profusely. Luckily it wasn’t a problem at all! As John made sure to tell me several times, I freaked out for no reason. We were seated in a matter of minutes and before you knew it we were ordering our Diet Cherry Coke and Cherry Coke and enjoying the B-movie reel.

*Note: I apologize, but I have no food pictures from this dining experience. As you all know, I have a really cruddy camera that does not take very good pictures in certain lighting. :guilty: However, I wrote down everything we ate so I can describe it!

As an appetizer, John ordered the onion rings and I got the spinach and artichoke dip for two. I thought it was so cool that I could get the dip for two and it still only counted as one appetizer on the DxDP. John said his onion rings were pretty good, but nothing special. He was more than happy to eat my double dose of dip! We both agreed that the spinach artichoke dip was our favorite. Both of them were good, but that one was the best. If I remember correctly we scraped the bowl clean!

For our entrees John ordered the angus chuck burger with just cheese, mushrooms and bacon. For his side he got French fries. I had one of my favorites: the beef and blue salad. John said his burger was very good, so he had no trouble finishing the whole thing. My salad was wonderful, and I would have eaten the whole thing if I didn’t have dessert in the back of my mind! The butcher-tender steak is so amazing. I think I ordered it medium well, but it was pretty pink when I got it. A few pieces were too raw for my taste, but John was more than happy to eat those pieces!

For dessert John had the peanut butter chocolate cake and I had a hot fudge sundae. Both desserts were delicious! John finished all of his cake and I ate almost all of my sundae, except for a couple spoonfuls!

We left Sci Fi very full and very happy! Once again it was another fabulous dining experience there! :lovestruc

After lunch it was time to use our Fast Passes for the Voyage of the Little Mermaid.

DisneyChristmasTrip2010263.jpg

I was excited to check this show out. The Little Mermaid has always been one of my favorite Disney movies.

DisneyChristmasTrip2010264.jpg

Wow, what a great show! I wish it had been longer, but other than that I loved it! Almost as soon as we got in the theater John fell asleep (I guess his lunch was weighing him down) and I cracked up because when they spray the water on the crowd he almost jumped out of his skin. It was hilarious! :rotfl:

After the show we were walking out and surrounded by a huge crowd of people when the most disgusting thing EVER happened to me.

A larger kid (probably thirteen or fourteen) who was the same height as me was pushing past with his family, and he got about six inches from me and sneezed DIRECTLY IN MY FACE. :scared1: I mean, he completely sprayed me down. It was all over my entire face and even in my hair. Now, please remember that I am a teacher, which means that I am also a germophobe to the max. I didn’t know how to react to this situation, so I pretty much just burst into tears. I have never been so grossed out in my life. I could feel the moisture from that kid’s sneeze just sitting all over my face, so I raced into the restroom and proceeded to completely scrub myself down from forehead to neck. I feel bad for John because I think I was in there for about half an hour, and I came out in a rotten mood. I just couldn’t believe that! :headache:

Oh well, I guess that's Karma. I laughed at John for getting sprayed, so I got sprayed! :lmao:

In an effort to cheer me up, John suggested we hit one of my favorite attractions: the American Idol Experience! I love American Idol, and ever since I first saw the Disney version I have been hooked. It’s so much fun to feel like you are sitting in the audience of a real taping of American Idol!

Despite my surly mood I agreed to go to American Idol. On my way there I continued to gripe and moan about how I was probably going to get sicker than I already was and how I couldn’t believe how rude that kid was. I stopped moaning for a minute to take a picture of the Block Party Bash.

DisneyChristmasTrip2010265.jpg

Before long we were seated in the American Idol studio. We had great seats that were pretty much center stage, so I snuck my camera out and snapped a picture.

PC270347.jpg

The three performers during this show were not that impressive. I remember the girl that I voted for sang “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree” by KT Tunstall. She ended up winning. When we left that show I was not satisfied with the performances I had seen, so we turned right around and saw another. This show was much better. The guy that won was awesome. He sang “Born to be Wild” and he was really cute and had great stage presence. His performance almost made me forget about the nasty sneeze in my face!

After our second dose of American Idol we decided to go back to Animation Academy. I know this isn’t at the top of everyone’s “must do” list, but John and I love it so we had to do it at least one more time! :lovestruc

Our artist this time wasn’t nearly as cool as the first one. He didn’t give us any options about what to draw, and he went through his instructions really quickly so it was hard to keep up. He didn’t have a good personality like the first guy either, so it wasn’t as much fun. It was still pretty fun though, and we had a great time drawing Tigger!

Here is John’s Tigger:

PC270349.jpg

And here is mine:

PC270348.jpg

Overall I was much happier with my Scrooge McDuck!

Up Next: Another beautiful Christmas sight at Disney! I get my first look at the Osborne Family Lights! :santa:

Yum, Sci-Fi :cloud9: My boyfriend and I were fighting over the peanut butter chocolate cake when we were there, haha. Next time we are definitely getting our own!

Oh my gosh Joni that's so disgusting! :scared1: You poor thing  When I read that I immediately thought of this scene from Everybody Loves Raymond http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHqNk8_rOHk

/
Glad you made it to Sci Fi! I hate that feeling of being late for an ADR and thinking you will miss it!

Mmm that peanut butter cake sounds SO good! :lovestruc

OMG I would have had the same reaction if someone sneezed in my face! :goodvibes I'm the same way, a total germaphobe, especially at Disney World, so I would have freaked out! I probably would have sprayed myself with my trusty bottle of Purell before I made it to the bathroom! I also probably would have left to take a shower! Glad you had a good time at the AI show so you could forget about that unfortunate incident!

I love your drawings of Tigger, they're so good! But the Scrooge ones were better, just because he's so rare! :thumbsup2 Is it possible to do a really bad drawing there, one that doesn't look like the character at all? I'm kind of nervous to do that, I can't draw to save my life!

Yeah for spinach and artichoke dip (I already know that I'm ordering that as it's my favorite appetizer anywhere we go).

 for waking up to a spray (reminded me of the teacher that had us all clap when a boy fell asleep in class, he sat straight up and started clapping:rotfl:).

:eek:for Sneezy! I also thought of Raymond.

American Idol sounds like fun.

Your :tigger: wins! Very nice!

Another great set of drawings! :thumbsup2 It's been a really long time since I've done it myself, but maybe I'll try my next trip! ;)

Eww, eww, eww! You poor thing, that sneeze would have sent me into a horrible mood too! I hope the kid at the very least apologized. Ick!!! :sad2:

Looking forward to more!!! :goodvibes

Yay on making it to Sci fi and having a lovely meal! :thumbsup2 Although you didn't take any pics your food descriptions still had me drooling! It's the one place that was on our ADR list but didn't get shortlisted - after reading your review am a bit sad :sad2:

Ugh on that kid spraying on your face...that's disgusting! Am glad you got to see American Idol twice and that cheered you up again. Am soo looking forward to seeing that show.

Both drawings of Tigger are great!

I understand why you would fight over the cake! All the dessert I've tried there has been delicious!

Okay, I have never seen that episode of Everybody Loves Raymond but when I watched that clip I almost fell out of my chair laughing. That is EXACTLY how I was trying to get the stuff off my face! :lmao:

Glad you made it to Sci Fi! I hate that feeling of being late for an ADR and thinking you will miss it!

I hate that feeling too! We were lucky that the hostess was so nice about it! Although, it probably happens all the time so I bet they give people a fifteen minute window or something like that.

I wanted so badly to leave and take a shower but the park was so crowded that we knew it would take us forever to get back. I was really upset though because I knew that I didn't get all of that junk out of my hair and that is sooooo nasty.

Thank you! :) The Scrooge McDuck was a lot more fun to do. I liked the teacher way more too. I don't think I've ever seen one that doesn't look like the character at all. Don't worry, you will be fine! They break it down for you and make it really easy!

Yeah for spinach and artichoke dip (I already know that I'm ordering that as it's my favorite appetizer anywhere we go).

It's delicious! You will love it!

:lmao: That's hilarious about the kid in class! I might have to try that!

That Raymond clip was hilarious! It was spot on with my reaction!

Thank you! I love those drawing classes!

:goodvibes

Thank you! We always have to do the drawing class at least twice on our trips. It's so much fun!

Unfortunately he didn't apologize. He didn't even look at me; he just kept right on going while I stood there having a panic attack!

I am going to work on an update right now!

Yay on making it to Sci fi and having a lovely meal! :thumbsup2 Although you didn't take any pics your food descriptions still had me drooling! It's the one place that was on our ADR list but didn't get shortlisted - after reading your review am a bit sad :sad2:

Both drawings of Tigger are great!

I'm glad you liked the descriptions! I was so upset when I realized it was too dark to take pictures of the food! Sci Fi is one of our favorite Disney restaurants! It's a perfect combination of good food and fun atmosphere!

You are going to love the American Idol show! It's so much fun!

Thank you! :)

When we left our second class at the Animation Academy it was already completely dark outside. We still had some time before our dinner ADR at 50's Prime Time Cafe, so we decided to go check out the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights. :santa:

I have always loved Christmas lights. We have a park near our home called Tanglewood that has a festival of lights every Christmas. They decorate all throughout the park with over a million Christmas lights and you can drive your car through and look at them. I wasn't really sure what to expect from the Osborne lights, but when I came around the corner into the Streets of America my mouth hit the floor. These lights put the Tanglewood lights to shame!

There were lights everywhere! I couldn't believe how beautiful it was. As soon as I saw them I teared up because it was just such a beautiful sight. However, there wasn't just lights everywhere. There was PEOPLE everywhere too! It was so crowded you could barely turn around. I didn't mind though because it was just so pretty. This was the first time on the trip that the cold didn't really bother me because it just felt so Christmasey! :goodvibes

The first thing we did was hop in line for a PhotoPass picture. I was still determined to get a good picture somewhere for our Christmas cards next year, so I thought we'd try here as well. The line was pretty long, but it was okay because we just watched the lights while we waited.

Photo0078FourBySix.jpg

Photo0076FourBySix.jpg

After we finished there we moved to another spot to try another PP picture. This line was pretty long too, so while we waited I made a short little video of the lights. It's only about a minute long, but the music from Home Alone is playing!

Osborne Family Lights!

The PP long was moving pretty quickly so before long it was our turn!

Photo0073FourBySix.jpg

After we finished taking pictures we started walking around and enjoying the twinkling lights.

DisneyChristmasTrip2010269.jpg

I loved this big tree! See if you can find the hidden Mickey!

DisneyChristmasTrip2010270.jpg

We decided that even though it was almost time for dinner we would use a couple of snack credits to get some hot chocolate. It just added to the whole Christmas feeling!

This was behind the hot chocolate stand. I loved it! Can you spot the hidden Mickey in this one?

DisneyChristmasTrip2010271.jpg

Right after we got our hot chocolate the lights finally started "dancing"! Oh my gosh, it was amazing! It was so powerful, the way they set it to music. I could have stayed there and watched it all night; however, we had some dinner reservations to get to!

Up Next: We run into an old "friend" at dinner! Stay tuned! :wizard:

Love all the photos and the video of the lights - how Christmassey is that?!! :thumbsup2

I keep reading TRs that make me want to see all the different events such as the Flower and Garden festival and now the Christmas lights!

I can also say although I am rubbish at spotting hidden mickeys I found both of them in your pics, lol!!

I'm dieing to know if you got a picture that you're happy with for your Christmas cards next year some time before the end of this trip.:rotfl:

I watched that video already! I was the first viewer! Am I the only subscriber? :lovestruc

Your Osborne lights update was amazing and brought back so many great memories (the last time I saw them was when we went to Disney over Christmas in 1997! :scared1: SO long ago!). Your video was awesome - and I can't hear that song WITHOUT thinking of Home Alone! :rotfl: Any one of those PP pictures would make for a great Christmas card! :thumbsup2

I have seen the Flower and Garden festival, Halloween, and Christmas at Disney. I think Halloween is my favorite! :)

I'm glad you were able to find the hidden Mickeys!

I'm dieing to know if you got a picture that you're happy with for your Christmas cards next year some time before the end of this trip.:rotfl:

I watched that video already! I was the first viewer! Am I the only subscriber? :lovestruc

I was way happier with these pictures than the MK ones, but still not completely satisfied! I'm going to blame it on that darn hoodie! :lmao:

I think you are the only subscriber! Thank you!

I'm so glad my update brought back memories! I have more videos that I tried to upload but they wouldn't work! I actually got a really good one of the lights "dancing" but it didn't seem to want to upload. I will try again soon!

Thank you! We might use one of these for our card next year because I'm a lot happier with them than the MK ones!

The Osbourne lights are so pretty!!! :lovestruc One day I'll get to WDW at Christmastime! :yay:

I would definitely recommend seeing it at Christmas at least once! The crowds are bad but it's worth the experience! :)

After we finished “ooh”ing and “ahh”ing over the Osborne Family Lights our bellies and our watches were telling us it was time for our dinner reservation at 50’s Prime Time Café! We hadn’t eaten here since our honeymoon, and that was for lunch, so we were excited to try their dinner fare.

DisneyChristmasTrip2010272.jpg

When we arrived it was pretty crowded. There seemed to be a lot of people waiting for their name’s to be called, so we checked in and settled in for a pretty good wait. There was an older man in a wheelchair waiting with his family, so John and I started up a conversation with him. He was very friendly, and when he found out John was in the Army they started in on the “man talk” (he was in the military too) so I just enjoyed checking out the restaurant and listening to their discussion. After just a few minutes our names were called and we were led to our table.

We were seated at one of those tables that is half booth and half table, so we were surrounded on all sides by people. We didn’t mind this, though. It was nice and cozy compared to the freezing cold outdoors. I really felt like I was in my mom’s kitchen! :cloud9:

While we waited for our server I snapped a picture of one of the nearby “kitchen” areas. I always wanted to eat in one of these areas. I love how much they look like a really 1950’s kitchen, right down to the mismatched trinkets!

DisneyChristmasTrip2010273.jpg

Before long our waiter arrived, and John and I instantly remembered him. He was the same waiter we had on our honeymoon! His name was Byron and we both remembered him because he was so funny! John and I were so excited to have him as our server again because he really played the part and made the experience fun.

We ordered our drinks (a diet soda and regular soda, of course) and our appetizers. John got the chicken noodle soup and I got the blue claw crab cake.

DisneyChristmasTrip2010275.jpg

John said his soup was “okay,” but I think he only ordered it because he knew his meal came with an appetizer. The only appetizer that really appealed to him on the menu was onion rings and he had just eaten those for lunch, so I don’t think chicken noodle soup was really what he wanted.

PC270356.jpg

My crab cake was just okay too. The crab cake itself was really good, but I didn’t realize that it came with succotash. I absolutely HATE succotash. I guess it’s because I’m not a big fan of lima beans. Anyway, I didn’t like that part. It also had some kind of chili sauce on it that I wasn’t too crazy about because it was really sweet. It was topped with crispy onions, which gave it a nice crunch. Overall I give it an “ehhh”. :confused3

When Byron came back to take our entrée orders he immediately started picking on John for having his elbows on the table! John and I were both cracking up and enjoying his jokes. :rotfl:

For his entrée John ordered what I think is the pork loin, but I can’t be entirely sure. I looked it up online and the description said “grilled boneless pork loin glazed with peppered mushroom gravy, with mashed potatoes and green beans.” That looks like what’s on his plate, so we’ll go with it! ;)

PC270359.jpg

Whatever it was, he liked it!

For my entrée I ordered a special that usually isn’t on the menu. I was having a hard time deciding between the meatloaf and the fried chicken, so when Byron said they had a special with fried chicken, meatloaf, and pot roast (and I could get it on the dining plan) I knew I had to have that!

PC270358.jpg

This entrée was mmm mmm good! The meatloaf was my favorite. It was on a bed of crispy green beans and carrots. I also loved the fried chicken and mashed potatoes. I’m not a huge fan of pot roast, but even it was delicious. It was very tender! I loved this entrée, and I think John regretted not getting it!

After stuffing ourselves silly we barely had room for dessert, but we made room! John ordered Dad’s brownie sundae and I had the s’mores!

PC270361.jpg

John was very impressed with his dessert. I don’t think there was much there to dislike, since it was brownie with vanilla icecream, hot fudge, and caramel!

PC270360.jpg

I regretted my dessert decision as soon as it arrived at the table. :headache: I had read on the DIS that the chocolate on the s’mores was hot fudge, so I don’t know why I ordered it! Especially since there was a 50’s Boston cream cupcake on the menu that sounded amazing! I ate it anyway (of course) and it wasn’t bad. Next time I will definitely get the cupcake!

Overall the entrees were definitely the most impressive part of this meal! It was good, but still not one of our favorite stops.

After we were completely stuffed with some pretty good home cookin’ we said goodbye to our old friend Byron, left a big tip, and headed out. By this point we were both really exhausted and ready for some much needed sleep, but I still had one more stop in mind!

Up Next: John gets jealous of the new man in my life! Stay tuned for the best character interaction we’ve ever had!

I'm so glad I got to see the Osborne lights last year. It was so amazing :lovestruc Ahh I am so jealous they played the Home Alone music while you were there! I love that movie :)
