One of our tenants stole all our stuff...

We own fully furnished chalets that we rent monthly in the winter and in the summer we rent to tourists.

Well today we hear a rumour that someone in our chalets sold our TV set...so we investigate...He stole the fridge, stove, dishwasher, washer, dryer, microwave and TV.....

He said it was not him as he was not there this week...Well, there is no forced entry and everything is gone...Get this, the cops say that we can't prove it's him

I am so mad, I could KILL.... He was wanted on other warrants (we did not know this) and the police are working on it but Shhheeeesh....What does it take to prove things these days...

Wow, sorry about that! I guess you'll need to do what the time share's do & make them sign an itemized list of what is in your place. (Right down to the number of silverware pieces.)

We do that but the Police say that they can't do anything...If we want we can try to sue them but that is very hard to do here in Canada...

At least you can write the criminal activity off on your taxes, can you do that in Canada? We can, but we have to have a police report to back up the loss.

I am sorry because I know how frustrating it can be to be a landlord. We tried it briefly and had terrible luck. I hope that things improve for you!

I would imagine your insurance would cover these losses? I guess if you find the items in his possession, then he would be charged. Otherwise, I don't see how it can be pinned on him.

I know that it won't get SOLVED but I am just a little bummed... I hate the fact that theives can get away with these things and We as a society have to pay for it...

I hope KARMA get him in the end...

Same thing happened to a friend of mine. The people who were renting her house took everything and the police said there is nothing they can do. I really don't understand how people can be so rotten.

My DF used to rent out some of his properties, but now he just flips them b/c of the same crap you're dealing with. Luckily, no one went as far as stealing the fridge, diswasher, dryer, etc. But, there was some major damage to his buildings from parties, domestic issues, and a few other issues.

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. The worst part is that it will probably never get resolved. I'm with you, I hope karma comes to bite him in the a**

I am so sorry this happened. A family friend of ours rents out their house in Vermont. Just recently she had some horrible renters. They stole some things like dinner plates and silverware. Other stuff like the kitchen table they just completely wrecked. They stole the towels, sheets, and bed skirts. How nice of them huh? The odd thing, they left a load of laundry in the washing machine.
