Last month, I helped my daughter out with a vet bill for $319 for a stray cat they found that needed surgery (after she put the $100 her grandmother gave her for Christmas, I was left with $219).

Now I have a horse in the horsepital. :( The horse has an ulcer on his eye. We've (meaning us and the vets) been treating him for two weeks and had to leave him Friday. Normal treatments don't seem to be working. Today, they said give them a call back on Wednesday, and we'll talk again. They're in the process of consulting with an equine opthalmologist. I don't even want to think about what this is going to cost by the time we're done (even though our vets are very generous with us). :headache:

He's the horse our daughter learned to ride on 13 years ago, and we love him. He's the only "pasture horse" (meaning non-breed specific) that we own, but he's the smartest one in the pasture by far. I hope he's feeling better soon. :guilty:

And someone abandoned a kitten at my house over the holidays who is going to need to be neutered. At this rate, I'm going to find an extra job... ;)

((hugs)) poor horsey!! I hope they can find out what is wrong with him.

hey stranger!

awwwwwww sorry to hear about the eye issue...hope it is all resolved soon!

A www that's to bad I hope everything works out ok for the horse. And I hope it does not cost a whole lot. :grouphug:

Hoping your horsey feels better soon...

I feel your pain regarding vet bills. Our dog needed emergency surgery this past Nov. She is now starting to really seem better. the vet said it was incredibly invasive surgery and her recovery was going to be a tough one.
What we won't do for our animals. :confused3 They are extensions of our family.

BTW, I loved your 'horsepital' pun...made me giggle out loud... thanks! :goodvibes

Thanks everybody! Fortunately, he didn't seem to have a lot of pain, and the vet said the same thing today, but I know he's uncomfortable, and I worry about his eyesight.

It never fails that we'll go a long time without needing to see the vet, and then we suddenly have to see them several times. DD also has a stray dog they rescued whose ankle is swollen that is going to have to go to the vet. I generally try to help them out since they live on one salary (she'll finish school in May, thank goodness), but I told her they'll have to cover the dog themselves.

My pockets are going to be empty after this horse bill comes in. :headache:

Finfan, how are things going?

SlovesT, I'm glad your dog is improving. We seem to be having a run with odd eye issues. The cat that had to have surgery that I mentioned above, had some kind of eyelid/eyelash problem that had this eyes almost competely shut. The vet had to go in and cut some of the skin out and stitch the eyes open somehow (they could still close when he blinked). He's great now, but I've never heard of anything like that before.
