One gripe about the Mummy....

Is how strict they are on loose carry ons. They won't even let you step in line with an 8 inch purse as my friend found out today. I understand the dangers of this, but my gripe is WHY didn't they design the ride vehicles with nets you can store loose items in? It's not like this ride is more violent than Hulk. It doesn't even go upside down.

Basically they are forcing you to purchase a locker, of which there are a limited number.

They have to follow the manufacturer's guidelines or the warranty and liability could be voided.

The lockers are free for 2 hours.

Call me paranoid, but I never trust the nets for loose items. The ride operators are too busy to pay attention to who belongs to what - I would be afraid my hat or sunglasses would walk off.

At our Six Flags, people actually set camera bags and purses down by the ride operator. I am always amazed by that! I have seen a couple of people freaking out when they get off the ride - because their purse is gone! One in particular was griping that it was right by the ride operator. Call me crazy - but I would want to know the ride operator is watching the ride - not my purse! LOL!

I love the lockers! I hate carrying stuff on rides with me, and hate leaving it unattended at the ride entrance as well. The theme parks in my state do not have the free lockers and I think they are great.

When we went last year we got to the top of the Hulk and had to go back down to put our bag in a locker (around here and most places we have went you could just leave the items on the dock/loading area and pick up on return). At first it ticked me off, but once I realized the lockers were free and saw how much smoother the load/unload process was without people tossing things to the side and retrieving them, I understood why they do this, not to mention your stuff being more secure.

Someone reported that they did not have an adequate number of lockers near the mummy ride. Is this true? Is it also true that you can not even take a fanny pack or small camera bag attached to your waist?

You can't have any carry-ons, not even a fanny pack. I remember one guy took a small bag on board the ride vehicle. The ride op had to take him out of the ride and send him to the lockers. The guy said, "This is the second time this has happened!" Well, ya should have listened the first time! :)

Yes it is true. I had to put my small fanny pack in a locker when we rode it today.

Thanks for making me aware of this. I appreciate it!

There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of the lockers but they seemed adequate enough. I was there for the last three days and it was pretty crowded but we never had a problem getting a locker. It was funny though, the first time that we went on, it took us longer to "rent" the locker than it did to get on the ride. I think the "rental" process is pretty simple but a lot of people don't seem to understand how to follow the directions on the screen. When we rode the first time I forgot to put my sunglasses in the locker so I stuck them in my shorts pocket. I was paranoid through the whole ride that they would get smashed. There is really no room for anything other than people on this ride. I thought it was a fantastic ride and well worth the painless process of sticking your things in a locker for a few minutes. ::yes::

Thanks for the info:D

Does anyone happen to remember the instructions for getting a locker? I'm thinking I can make the process quicker if I knew them ahead of time.

The lockers are a real pain in the whazoo.

Most everyone tonight needed a locker. Nothing can be taken on board. Not even small fannypacks being worn.

So lots of people trying to get into lockers. We had a hard time getting the  thing to work. Must have spent 10 minutes and several tries trying to get two thumbprints from one of us to read alike. And sometimes the screen did not even respond, period.

Poor set up really. Too small of a space for a popular and new ride for the lockers. Guests could barely move around. Lines there and everyone in a hurry and pushy trying to be next.

Small space.
Not enough monitors.
Machine too touchy and ineffective.

One guy on our second time through the que schmoozed the staff (CM?) at the entrance about not being able to take his backpack on board.
Since they were blocking anyone from entering finally the CM said, "Well I didn't see it."
The guest thought he pulled one off. But about 15 foot up two gals stopped him from going any further without checking it.

One trick I learned about the lockers. Don't use your thumbprint. People tend to press too hard with their thumb. Use your index finger and press very lightly. When you press hard it distorts the fingerprint and makes it unreadable.

I can do all the steps to rent a locker in under 15 seconds now.

I didn't have any trouble the one time I rented a locker. I used my forefinger for the print and quickly got my locker and retrieved my stuff from it. There were people in front of me who were having trouble though. I have to agree that the locker area is way too small. The lockers on the inside were very very hard to get to. I waited for one on the outside so I didn't have to try and squeeze in there.

I used the ROTM lockers last night and saw the lockers are free for 3 hours not 2 hrs. like I said in my previous post. Just wanted to correct my mistake.

They change the free period according to the business of the park/ride.

In the slow season the free period will probably drop to 1hr.

Thanks, DM. I thought I was going senile because I definitely remembered that the lockers were free for 2 hours during Technical rehearsals and then last night I saw they were free for 3 hours...maybe because the PAP event last night was a four hour Mummy marathon. ;)

I still don't get why a person can ride Hulk or Dueling Dragons with a fanny pack, but not Mummy. Also, why a person can't bring a fanny pack on Mummy, but can bring a loose hat or glasses. Doesn't make any sense to me, especially if the lockers are a hassle for someone not experienced with them.

They have to follow the manufacturer's guidelines or the warranty and liability could be voided.

Think of it this way: Batteries on computers are replaced everyday by consumers and yet my iMac's 1 year warranty would have been voided if I opened the casing to the computer. I could have memory installed on the computer at the factory but not open the casing myself and install it. (This was a few years ago and the warrenty requirements may have changed since then.)

The manufacturer has guidelines for this ride which includes no carry-ons. Universal has to follow those guidelines. It might not make sense to you or me, but for liability they must follow the guidelines to the letter.
