Hi, all! My 15 year old is going to Japan on a school trip next month (April) and they will be doing one day at Tokyo DisneySea. We’ve already downloaded the app and purchased her pass but I’m so out of my element on this! What are the most important things she needs to know? I don’t think they can do any of the “fast passes” or things like that because they’re a big group and can’t coordinate things. I’m also not sure if she’ll be able to use mobile ordering because that would require my credit card and I had to verify the online purchase when I bought her ticket for security and I assume it would do the same thing for any purchase through the app, which would be problematic since I won’t be there. I know everyone says arrive early but she has not control over when they’ll get there (hoping the coordinators know to get there early) so I guess I’m just looking for any tips on how to maximize her time/get as much done as she can.

Thank you so much from this freaking out mom!

I'm not sure there is much she can do if her arrival time is out of her control and she won't be able to purchase any paid Premier Access tickets through the app. You can buy paid Premier Access tickets at guest services, although they do go pretty quickly.

The biggest thing would probably just be to manage / lower her expectations about what she'll be able to achieve. I would view it as more of a sightseeing day as opposed to a riding attractions day.

Otherwise, it would be the standard advice, like eating outside of popular hours. Although, with mobile ordering being the new "standard", that could also be a challenge.

If there's one or two rides she really wants to experience, then she could aim for those if she's willing to wait. She might be lucky and a single rider line is available and open (for Raging Spirits, Frozen, Tangled or Peter Pan and Indiana Jones, although I'm not sure it will be open then).

If it's anything like my kids' theme park field trips, they split off into smaller groups. If that's the case, then they can try for the free Priority Pass once they get into the park. Hopefully they can get return times that overlap. Simiarly for the paid Premier Pass if everyone can get their foreign credit cards to work.

The card that I used to buy the park ticket was saved in my account and I was able to use that for Premier Pass and mobile ordering. I don't recall any verification other than maybe reentering cvv. But that depends on the cc security measures. Text verification is an issue if you're not using your regular cell service.

You might want to add your DD as an authorized user on your credit card that has no foreign transaction fee. Then she would have her own cc to use and not be dependent on having enough cash.

Thanks for the advice! We'll watch videos and prepare her how to get the ride passes (both the free and paid) once she's in the park and she'll play it by ear based on what they're allowed to do. And she will have my credit card app on her phone so she can authorize any charges she needs to in case I can't do it for her in real time because of the time difference (I had to go into my credit card app while purchasing the ticket to authorize it because it was a foreign online transaction). She will also have cash and her MC debit card in addition to the Visa card that's on my account (that I have used previously traveling abroad with no problems), so she has multiple payment options. At the very least, she will research and figure out her top 3 attractions and focus on those in addition to paying attention to what attractions have the single rider line operating that day. I knew from my initial research she was going right after the start of the 25th anniversary celebration but I also just figured out she'll be there for the Food and Wine Festival, so my souvenir requests have increased! 🤣 Fingers crossed that everything works out okay on the app and she can find all my requested souvenirs. 🤞

The app unfortunately doesn't work like the WDW or DL one does, but I'd tell her to keep a look out for the snack cases and popcorn buckets that are wildly popular there. They have a strap and can be worn like a bandolier. If she buys a popcorn bucket refills are discounted and they have all sorts of interesting flavors you won't find in the US, like curry, beef, and corn pottage.

Snack cases are smaller versions of the popcorn buckets. If you search for the food, and choose a snack shop, if a snack case is listed you can click on it and it will also tell you where else it's located. Unfortunately you have to click into each restaurant first and don't seem to be able to search location by item.

Many shops are Mobile Order only, so I'd plus one having her add your card into her phone and app, as not being able to mobile order might be difficult. Pin Trading is also banned there although you can buy them (there's a selection of roughly 15 pin styles total everywhere in the park).

I'd also have her download the Chargespot app, they're mobile batteries located all over Japan which can be returned anywhere in Japan. Many hotels have them in reception and they rent them by the hour.

I personally liked Tokyo Disneyland more and found the rides not that great at DisneySea, but the design was gorgeous so I think she'll have an amazing time!
