Once Upon A Time

Does anyone else think the fact that MM and David are both reading Anna Karinina means there's going to be a tragedy regarding that story? Given how Anna ends up, that could be a bit worrying.

Also, at the end, after the EQ told Rumple that Belle was dead, he removed the cup from his cupboard, and took it to a pedestal. He replaced a silver chalice with the cup. Does the chalice have any significance?

My first thought was that next week's episode was King Arthur/Lady of the Lake (they call her a mermaid only because she's...well, the lady of the lake :p ) and that the sword and chalice in Rumple's palace are Excalibur and the Holy Grail.

:confused3

That's an interesting thought! I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I also noticed that in the "Beast's" castle, there were some Greek type jugs and amphorae. I wondered if that was a nod to Hercules? Anyone else notice them? It was towards the beginning when Rumple brought Belle into the castle.

First, I didn't know it was called a chalice and second, I was thinking the same thing. When he removed the chalice, he didn't take his time to put the cup on the pedestal but did it very quickly (very Indiana Jones). I wondered if that had any significance.

When Rumple first arrived at Belle's father's palace, he was holding the model of a home in his hand. What is the significance of that?

From the stills of that episode that were released a few weeks ago, I thought maybe it would be the Lady of the Lake too. There was some spoiler info released with the pictures that made me think she wasn't the little mermaid. But then EQ's mermaid comment had me changing my mind. Then Rumple replaces that Holy Grail looking thing with the chipped cup.. color me confused.

Of course it could be neither, and she could be a siren. The mythology would be more consistent with a PC/Abigail-David/Katherine story. Or maybe just an smash up of the Lady of the Lake, a siren and Ursula.

IMDB has now given the Stanger a name:

"Stranger / August W. Booth"

From what I've been reading on the thread so far, most people think that he is either the Big Bad Wolf or 1 of the Brothers Grimm. Well, I've been looking at the name and nothing is really leaping out at me except his middle initial.

W = Wolf

W = Wilhelm (1 of the Brothers Grimm's first name)

Anyone else got any theories?

I don't think he is the wolf. If the wolf lives after his encounter with Red in the fairytale world, he should already be in Storybrooke. It would break the rules they have established.

That said, I think this is the character to whom the "rules" don't apply- like Desmond from LOST. I still don't think he is the Wolf, but rather he is the one who created the dark curse, or is in some way closely tied to that person, and is the author of the book. We know that Rumple is the one who gave the curse to the EQ , but that doesn't mean that he was the one who created it. I don't think this person could completely escape the curse, in that he was brought to this world, and he may not even know his true identity. Now that Emma is on the scene, he has been drawn to Storybrooke for the book. Or he knows exactly who he is, but needed Emma to be there to start loosening the curse so he could get back to his book.

My other thought is after writing the book he went ahead and came to this world, and has transcended time and has acted as a muse of sorts to Perrault, the Grimms, Hans Christian Andersen etc. This would assure people would be familiar with these stories, and nothing would seem particularly out of sorts about his book. It would just be another retelling of familiar stories. Now that the curse is being loosened he is free to find his book and do who knows what with it.

Could the stranger be Rumple's son who ran away? Could he have ran away and, somehow not be affected by the curse?

Than again, if he was 12 when he ran away, he should be 40 now and the stranger looks younger than 40.

I just got around to watching the last two episodes, and WOW, the Beauty and the beast one was amazing!!!!

After the comment about the Mermaid, we were thinking it would be Ariel, but then when we saw the preview for next week, DD and I both at the same time said "maybe it's Ursula." LOL - I can't wait for next Sunday to find out for sure now.

I wonder if the mermaid line was just a throw away or forshadowing for a future episode. It seems like next week is more like a siren or the lady of the lake (with the whole turning into Snow)...

DD and I love this show and every sunday scream in frustration that it isn't sunday again! :)

I have a feeling all of the objects on the pedestals mean something or relate to another story.

I noticed something that looked like the golden fleece of Jason and the Argonauts fame. I also recognized Mickey's sorcerer hat.

Ok I love this show! It is amamzing all the twists and turns, all the little hidden things. My favorite is Mr.Gold/Rumplestiltskin.

Here is my take on part of it so far.
Mr.Gold and the Mayor know exactly who they are it was kind of noted that Gold knew in an early episode. Mr.Gold has more power than the mayor does in modern time and in fairytale time. I beleive that Mr.Gold will have a major part in bringing down the EQ/mayor. If Belle is in a Psych ward and Gold finds out that the mayor is hiding her he will seek revenge. Gold isnt that bad of a guy, little odd but not bad. If you remember the mayor has to do what he says if he says "please"

My DD10 and DD13 have been rewatching this episode everyday over and over.

Cant wait for an episode on Red Riding Hood.

He was, using your number, 12 when Rumpel became the Dark One. Rumple was the Dark One when Jiminy went to see him. Gepetto was also a boy at that time. Gepetto was an older man at the time of the curse.

So, Rumple's son should be older than Marco(Gepetto) in Storybrooke. The stranger could be Rumpel's son but the writers have a timeline issue to resolve if he is, right?

Unless Rumple banished him to modern day at that time, rather than him running away. Maybe he sent him a few years out from when Emma would be sent? But I still like the Pied Piper theory. (Since it's mine. :)) Although I'll admit to not seeing how August W. Booth links to that story....

Completely off topic......

Are any of your Survivor fans? The new season started last night, and Courtney (the girl who broke her arm and had to leave) sure looked like Mary Margaret (if you get rid of Courtney's tatoos). I did a double-take when they first showed Courtney.

Love the thoughts/theories on this thread! I have been watching the show (thank goodness for TiVo, b/c I was getting up for work at 3am on the weekends last quarter..). This sunday is the season finale, right? Has the show been renewed?

OMG! I thought the same thing! I was going to post that over in the Survivor thread too.
