Onboard Gift question

I purchased 2 different onboard gift pkgs for our stateroom.

Has anyone had any luck requesting that either 1 or the other not be put on display in the stateroom on embarkation day?

I had hoped they wouldn't display the birthday pkg until my wife's actual birthday but DCL told me today that they won't do that.

I guess, worst case, I can go to the stateroom first and remove the birthday decor but its a pain.

I'm surprised that they won't let you choose which day to have the package delivered. They let me choose which day to have a bottle of fake wine delivered. I just picked the day on the website when I ordered it.

I think it's because they hang the decor, it's for embarkation day....they know when the stateroom will be empty.

Yeah, but room hosts are pretty good at knowing when the room is empty to clean and make towel animals, so I don't know why that would be a problem for hanging the banners and mobiles.

I wonder if its different for the food and drink options? There wasn't an option for date selection when I purchased the gift pkg. Oh, well, I'll figure something out- have a great day!

That's a good point. On our past cruises, they have always cleaned when we were elsewhere and never showed up to do those things when we were still there.

But all you need is for someone to be running late or decide to go back to the room when they normally wouldn't and it gets all thrown off.

I bought it for my mom on our cruise (it was like 3 months before her birthday) and she was not expecting it and was totally surprised.

There is a difference between putting up banners (which takes longer than simply cleaning and could ruin a surprise if interrupted in the middle) and dropping off a food or beverage item (which can be done quickly). I can understand why decoration packages are put up before embarkation but other gifts can be delivered mid-cruise.

Also true! Regardless of when it goes up, she will be surprised and happy. I won't worry about it - our goal is to have a great vacation together & as long as the gift shows up sometime on the trip, we won't worry about it.

Of topic, but when did our last cruise in April. Our friend had secretly setup something for our last sit down dinner for my wife's birthday which was a couple days off after our cruise was done. I don't recall her ever talking to our servers on the side, guess it was just magic. Little different than decorating a room but would assume anything is possible with a ask and a tip?

This is my thought. It's about the timing for the stateroom host. They have more time allotted for extras like that on embarkation day.

Maybe she told guest services, or if the reservations were linked, she might have added it to your reservation?
