? on tipping

I've read about tips, and amounts to give, but still have a few questions.
I understand that room service usually gets $1-2/person.
My question, do we give the room server a tip each time we get room service? Or do we leave a tip at the end of the cruise? If so, do we leave an envelope in room with "room service" on it?

Thanks for any help, this is my first cruise and I want to do things right.

You give the room service person $1-2 each time he comes to the room. That way, the person who gave the service gets the tip.

The head server, server, asst. server, and cabin steward get their tips in the envelopes on the last night. You can leave the tip for the room steward in the room on the last morning if you'd like.

You can charge the tips if you'd like--go to guest services with the tip form you will get (2nd to last night, you'll get the form and envelopes). They will charge the tips and give you a perforated receipt--one copy for you, one to put in the envelope. It saves carrying as much cash.

Can tips be paid by cheques?

You can use a check or traveler's cheque at guest services, the same as a charge, and get the receipt that you then give to the server. Don't give a check to the server/asst./steward as they might have trouble cashing them. Guest services will cash them for you and give you either the cash or the receipt for the tip envelopes, whichever you prefer.

A quick suggetsion, do like I did and save $15 - $20 in dollar bills and put them in an envelope. I packed that ,marked 'TIPS', in my carry on bag. In the room any time we got room service we just pulled from the tip envelope.
