OMG- Zhu Zhu Pets are they the new Cabbage Patch Kids????

Just got my notice that the giant hamster city I pre-ordered from Toys R Us shipped. I also should be getting the etoys set from e-toys this week that has the 4 hamsters and fun house. Do you think I can sell a fun house on ebay to recoup some money?

Well my Christmas just took a turn down. I had two Zhu Zhu pets that my kids asked for, one for each, and I've had them awhile, now one is missing, it's no where in my house to be found and I've searched and searched and searched now I have a little over two weeks to try to come across one and my CVS didn't have any today. :scared1: I wonder if somehow my husband threw it out....:scared1:

So did any of you see where they said zhu zhu have issues? They aren't being recalled exactly - they have some ingredient in them (not lead - it was something else) that's harmful if put in the mouth - ok I'm gonna have to find a link to the story - it was on our local news....

soo they should be getting returned to stores & you'll be able to get what you're missing - especailly if your kids are older & aren't planning on sticking the pets in their mouth!

One of our headline news stories this morning was that Zhu Zhu Pets are unsafe. Of course dd15 saw it and probably won't let her little brother play with his on Christmas morning.

Toysrus has the giant city playset which includes 2 hamsters (patches and squiggles) available on line for $99.99. Bottom of page 2

that's how rumors start. There is one consumer group that is saying this and it is based on a small test group (they tested 3 of Mr. Squiggles). They said they found higher than accepted levels od antimony in the fur and on the mouth the acceptable limit is 60 ppm, they said they found `100ppm. Cepia has had them tested and found no such thing. I would wait and see before deciding to return them, or you will be giving someone else your presents. there has not been a recall issued.

I won't be returning the one pet I have, yet. But until I hear the details of the possible poision I won't be giving mine to DD7. YES, she is well past the age of putting things in her mouth, but sometimes the issue is with lead, and possibly whatever is causing concern with these, are that holding them can be enough to get the poision in their system, also if they have it on their hands and then go eat a sandwich or something, they can also get the poision in their system.

I take this very seriously after DD10 got lead poisioning when she was younger. Having to take her for weekly blood tests for a very long time was hard enough, but wondering if her focus issues that she has now are a result of that is even worse.

So, if they turn out OK, she will be getting a pet and a car for her birthday in January. If not, I will be returning them. Either way I plan on letting her hear the news stories so she doesn't question why Santa isn't bringing any. Kind of like when she wanted those things that were like Pixos before Pixos, she heard it on the news and knew not to ask.

I was wondering about this too.... My friend called me up in a panic, telling me not to give the pet to DD (we celebrated her birthday yesterday) but I read the article and I don't see it as being THAT bad... am I being naive? Can someone help me out here???

Well, I for one have to wonder what the motivation of the company that did this "testing" is. If you go to their website, they seem to be all about eco friendly toys etc. But, they also have links to places where you can buy all of these toys (including Zhu Zhu's and other toys on their "bad" list). Why would a watchdog company be providing links for you to BUY a BAD product? Oh right, so they can make money off those products, too?

Also, I know someone on another board who works in the toy industry. He found the actual testing results for the Zhu Zhu's from a certified lab and he said he would give his kids the pets. That satisfies me.

I'm curious if anybody here IS planning to return their pets? I had a moment of panic when I heard the news last night but I think I'm keeping mine for my niece and nephew and still gifting them to them on Christmas.

I am wondering this same thing. My ds is 6 and my dd is 10.

I emailed my mother (who is protective of her grand kids obviously) what she thought I should do about giving them to them and the report.. her response about the report was:

"SOMEONE was crabby they didn't get their zhu zhu pets!"

LOL! That was kind of my line of thinking:)

NOPE - I will not... I think its a company that is just trying to get thier name in the game... I have never heard of this GOOD GUIDE before and the toys have gone threw testing.... If you listen to everything you hear from the news and all these different groups you wouldnt be able to buy anything, drink anything, or eat anything.... The Hot toys always go through this kind of thing... I remember when Tickle Me Elmo was hot hot hot and there were complaints about it brusting into flames....
