We are suppose to be in WDW in 5 days.

DD 21 months fell Saturday and messed up her tooth. We took her in to the dentist Saturday night but there was so much swelling and she was uncooperative for the xray, and we couldnt get a clear shot, and thought maybe it just got pushed back down, and the dentist assured us if that was the case, it would grow back.

Now the swelling is down and to me it looks broken. Then they will have to pull it. I am so scared to have that done to her! I mean, scared for the pulling, scared for the recovery, and so sad for her spending the next 5-6 years looking like a jackolantern :sad1: And we are suppose to be flying out Saturday.

I called the dentist back and have an appt for 2pm today. My husband cant leave work and my mom is out of state and so I have to go alone with both kids. :sad1:

I am just a nervous wreck here and needed to write it out for someone.

Oh, it will be ok! Why do these things happen right before a trip?

For what its worth, my best friend's little guy had his top middle tooth knocked out at Chuck E Cheese's when he was 2. Yeah, he was pretty funny-looking for a bit, but now, we don't even notice it. Not even in pictures even when I look for it. So...it might be bad at first, but you'll get used to it. If you want, I can send you a pic and you can see for yourself.

I'm sorry that you have to go to the dentist by yourself. Take some snacks for your older one. The baby will be fine as the dentist/office staff will be working with her. I'll be thinking of you in the next hour!

Please keep us posted on how it goes, and good luck! Take a deep breath and realize that in just a few days, you'll be in the Motherland and everything will be just fine. This will all be a memory.

Peace!

Oh, forgot to mention....the pulling of his teeth wasn't bad, and he ate soft food for half a day and the next day he was TOTALLY back to normal eating regular food and no pain/discomfort.

pixiedust: for your daughter
:flower3: for you
:donald: for your son
and what the heck....
 for your husband. Everyone loves the jumping Banana!

No worries! Everything is going to be okay. Just take some deep breaths and realize stuff like this happens. She might hurt today, but she'll feel much better tomorrow. And once you get to WDW, EVERYONE will feel better! Good luck today!!

Thank you. I am so worried about how the recovery would be with the trip so close.

It'll be ok, really it will. If only it hadn't happened right before vacation.

I actually had my top two front teeth pulled when I was almost two due to bottle rott. Mom let me walk around with the bottle nipple between my teeth all the time. As a result, I have pictures all the way through 1st grade missing those teeth. I never cared. In fact, I was the first one in my class to learn to whistle due to the missing teeth. I thought it was cool.

4 or 5 and he did this. He knocked it so it was very crooked, but still attached. The dentist numbed it, and then pulled it out. He was fine pain wise, but it did bleed a lot the first day. He was running all over like nothing had happened right aferward. and.. he thought he looked so cool! He's almost 7 now and it has just grown in. We all miss it.. :rotfl2: I'd give her some tylenol before you go too. I don't think the recovery will be bad at all.. most of the damage has probably already been done.

If you have a good dentist, pulling that tooth will be easy. OK?

My guy had two teeth pulled, and they were only partial teeth b/c they were disintegrating (father's family has a history of crumbling baby teeth, DS was lucky that only two of his went that way). It was just a tiny bit of lidocaine, NO gas, and boom boom it was done. He was a tiny bit swollen, but that was really from the lidocaine, and he was recovered in less than a day.

That was at around 2.5 years.

But at 6 months, he knocked one of his own teeth out (hit a table, and the teeth that crumbled were still in the gums, so there's a possibility that they were traumatized by the table-hit, and that's why they crumbled). One of his brand new teeth!

So I feel your pain, 3 times over.

I'm posting this now for the hugs, and I'm going to post some smile pictures for you, OK? It'll be OK.

By the way, if this dentist has a TV in the ceiling to play Disney movies and lets your girl be on your lap for the pulling, he is an EXCELLENT dentist and you should keep him. :) (I won't take anything less, personally, though the movies can vary...our guy plays Nemo, which is amusing, LOL)

A week after he lost the tooth on the table, it was the one next to that cute bottom middle tooth.

Coming up on 2, you can still see the space but it's not horrible. (you can also see the horrible half-teeth to the side of his top middle teeth, just a bit)

And then shortly after having those two pulled.

I'm sure everything will go smoothly. Kids are much more resilient than grown-ups - she'll be fine!

Thank you all for your kind words.

To make matters worse, our ped. dentist is actually out of town this week. He had left instructions on his machine to call another dentist with emergencies, so that is who we called Saturday, so that is where I am taking her today. So my only experience with the guy was Saturday night. :confused3 His office was kinda old and dingy, but he was older too, so I guess that just means experience?? He is a professor of pediatric dentistry at the U of Iowa, so I assume he knows what he is doing, and he was a really nice guy - he actually wouldnt even let us give him anything for the office call on Saturday - said he had things to do at the office anyway? We dont have any dental insurance so we greatly appreciated that. So he seemed really nice, but I havent been around him enough to be 100% confident that I have the best dentist, kwim?? So I just have to trust that our current pediatric dentist (that dd has only seen once) gave us his name because he was good.....

Again, thanks for all the kind words. On another note, just talked to my bf and her kids have the stomache bug, and we saw them this weekend. So now the kids are exposed to that too

WHY NOW. :confused3

My heart goes out to you!! My daughter chipped her tooth when she was 18 months old and I was 8 months pregnant. She was stepping up on our little step stool to brush her teeth (the step stool had rubber on the top to stop kids from slipping...didn't work this time). She slipped, and her chin hit the sink, chipping one of her front teeth. We immediately took her to the dentist and they said they wouldn't repair it since it was a baby tooth. I was devastated to say the least. I literally cried for days. I don't know if it was the pregnancy hormones or what, but I couldn't even sleep!

Fast-forward a few months after my son was born, she was really fussy. The doctor couldn't find anything wrong with her, so we took her back to the dentist. The piece of tooth that was still in her mouth had become abscessed. We took her straight over to the oral surgeon's office and had it removed. After the 4 minute surgery to remove the tooth, the surgeon said that her mouth felt 100% better than it did when she walked in. (We decided to have her put to sleep...they said that it would be easier since she didn't want to open her mouth. Also, they didn't want her to have any bad memories of the dentist). She had no problems eating by the next day.

My daughter is now 13. When I look back at pictures, I see a sweet, happy, cute girl. She may be missing a tooth, but that's just part of who she is.

I hope everything goes well for you and your DD today! I know you are probably feeling overwhelmed, but everything will work out and you'll be at the Happiest Place on Earth soon! Please keep us posted!

My high-drama son was over this tooth extraction in about 24 hours. It was rougher on me than on him, honestly. It sounds like a much bigger deal than it ends up being. (And I had one of my own wisdom teeth pulled just a week later, so I'm speaking from both sides of the equation.)

I know this is stressful and awful for you right now. Please know that it is not the end of the world and will not be as horrible as you think. :flower3:

Ok it looks like we may have dodged a bullet again! Ellie was such a good girl, she was about 1/2 asleep, and so he really got to look around in there. He was able to scrub it down with gauze and what I was seeing and thought was pulp of the tooth came off, so apparently it was cookie or something :-). He was able to use the little metal thing to push down her gums a bit in the back and he really thinks the majority of the tooth is there. The back did seem a little rough to him too like it did to me, and likely why I wasnt able to brush the cookie out when I tried at home, , so he said it is highly likely that she broke off a shard of tooth, but the entire tooth that is left is still white so it isnt down to the roots at all. He was poking it like crazy with the metal scraper thing and she wasnt upset at all so there didnt seem to be any sensitivity. He said to leave it be, and hope it will start to come back on its own, and if it doesnt, go back to our normal ped. dentist (wh(who is out of town) in a month. He didnt seem to think it should be a problem with us going out of town next week at all, since she showed no sensitivity to the examination.

I am so relieved! Thank you so much for all your good thoughts and kind words! I was really a wreck a few hours ago!

And to the pp who posted the photos, your ds is so adorable!

I'm glad it went well!

And he sounds like a good guy; you wouldn't believe the number of ped dentists who won't let a parent back with their little children.

Give the kids some vitamins, lots of good whole food, and lots of rest! Hope no one gets sick!!!!

(DS says thanks for the compliment :goodvibes )

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

That is SO the kind of thing I'd do.

"Honey! The kid has a horrible rash! He's all red and blotchy!"

"Did you wash his face after he ate strawberries?"

"Uhh...." [facepalm]

I'm glad it was a cookie. :)

You gotta admit, that is pretty darn funny! :lmao:
I too am glad it was just a cookie. Have a super trip!
