I just got DS17's senior proofs back. Prints are crazy expensive and I mentioned that when I posted them on Facebook. Well, my ex "stole" the pics and posted them with a status of "Does anyone want to help me pay for my son's pictures?" Then he added, "Me and his mom, I mean.":scared1:

I replied that I didn't want strangers paying for my son's pictures. That's our job(and will most likely be me and my family's job, with his history).

Can you say TACKY?!

De-friend him!!!! LOL! Facebook is great, but it causes lots of problems too! Sorry he did that!

Why does your ex have access to your facebook photos and wall? You need to un-friend him and change your security settings.

And stop posting on his wall. It makes you look as petty as him.

Normally, he's pretty normal;). We share a child and to be honest, if he does something like this, I'd rather see it straight out than hear about it from mutual friends. I don't usually post on his wall, but since he made it sound like I am on board with asking people to donate money to our "cause", I felt like I had to say something. I have relatives who are his friends and I would hate them to think I would be that tacky.

Ok..now a more serious answer...your status probably made him feel insecure for not paying for the pics himself and he "wrote back"! People seem to be much braver on facebook and forums than they would be in person! I have seen a few feuds among family on my facebook page...don't sweat it! You responded so leave it at that. Good luck!!!!!

I would have taken it as sarcasm/a bad joke. Then again, he might not be the sarcastic type.

I dont 'do' facebook, but I think that if I were him, this would be a good way to show off my kids pictures to everyone and make a joke about how insanely expensive they were! I mean - do you REALLY think he was asking for $$??? Sounds like sarcasm to me!!

I have been there and done that with the ex and photos on facebook, not so much the asking for donations part, but my ex took photos off of my wall and played them off like they were taken by him. He got TONS of compliments on "his" photography skills. Not cool. Soooo, now when I post pics of DS I block the ex, he doesn't even know they are there. :lmao:

+1 - I think you were/are over-reacting. It also sounds to me like the second line was so that people didn't think that you weren't part of the photo obtaining process KWIM.

My name was on the pictures. You can't really grab pictures off Facebook anymore without the picture having a tag underneath with Picture by X or something like that. He used to grab pictures and then post them as his own, which kind of bugged me, as I always give credit if someone else took a picture, but I never commented on them.

The way it was said didn't hit me as a joke. He has 700 "friends".

This is the status... "If Anyone wants to help me pay for his pictures let me know!!!! " Then his first comment "I Mean Help Us!!! Me & His Mom!!!!"

No LOL, ROFL, smiley face, etc. He had already posted every proof separately with comments, so he had shown off the pictures.

Thanks for the opinions, guys, I was really just venting. It's over and done with. I'm just glad he didn't delete my comment like he has other people when they disagreed with him. If he had I would have asked him to take the second comment off the post.

I would guess that you don't even have the rights to post them on Facebook. They are proofs, which are examples for you to look at and choose which prints you want. Yes, you can purchase the rights to use the photos any way you want a lot of the time, but these are proofs? Proofs are often not even the final processed photo.

Just a heads up. Copyright stuff is usually very strict with professional photographers.

They have PROOF and COPYRIGHT stamped all over them and nothing in the paperwork says they can't be posted. Everyone I know posts the proofs to get opinions on which to order.

Good for you. My sister defriended her ex on facebook and I still think it's so tacky and juvenile. Her kids are on facebook and can see that their parents aren't even "friends" and I think it's crazy. Be adults. You are doing the right thing.

Likely they say "proof" across them or something like that. Also photographers put out their material with logo/watermarks on them so that people know who took them. It's not illegal to post these.

I would take it as a joke - sounds like he was just commenting on how ridiculous the cost is.

How were you able to post his "proofs"? Are they copyrighted? I would be more worried about getting hit with a bill for all charges than a comment from your ex. I also took it as a joke as I could totally see DH posting the same thing. Those pictures are really expensive!:scared1:

When DS17 took his this year, the photographer told me to watch her facebook page since she will post them and tag me and DS. It is the new thing for free advisiting!

See now that is really great. I am sure that the work PROOF is through the picture, but at least you can see them clearly. My daughter graduated a few years back and her photographer put 2 pictures on his page. You were not allowed to copy them (well onto another facebook page, I am sure some people took them and posted elsewhere) or you were charged for the entire lot of pictures.

I paid more for my daughter's senior pictures than I would like to admit, and we did not get that much for the money. Looking back, I wish I would have offered her the cash.

Either way, I hope that the OP read her contract and doesn't get in trouble for posting the proofs and is allowed to like you were.

She shouldn't be violating copyright rules if she is 1) giving credit to the photographer and not passing off as her own work 2) isn't making money off these pictures or causing the photographer loss of wages from the pictures.

Do you think he made that comment because you posted them and mentioned that they are crazy expensive??
