OMG...I am so full. First time review. UPDATE-2/9 Mama Melrose/Raglan Road

Hi! I'm enjoying your reviews!!!

After our great lunch at Les Chefs de France, we hopped on the boat to DHS. When we got there, it was PACKED!!! Holy cow. We could barely move. We walked around Brazilians, cheerleaders, and god only knows who else. This is the only time I have ever seen this park this packed. I was on two missions at this park. My must-dos every time we come here. ToT and TSMM. We walked over to ToT, 100 minute wait and no fastpasses left for the day. Bummer. :sad1: We then decided to walk over to TSMM. I wasn't holding my breath on any kind of fastpasses for this one at all. Oh yeah. Gone. 120 minute wait. It looked like my birthday ride fest wasn't going to happen at all. Big giant bummer. Oh well. I was at Disney...how could I complain? We decided to just sit and look at all of the crazy people walking around and just hang out. So that is what we did until our ADR.

Now, I love Italian food. Red sauce, pasta, any kind of marsala sauce...yummo! Heck, I even eat red sauce with bread. My werid Italian upbringing makes all this possible. Anyway, this was the last Italian place at WDW to try, and what better day to do it than my birthday?

Now, onto the food...I know you people are thinking I am very long-winded and take forever to actually get to what you really came here for. So here it is!

J has been falling in love with caesar salads these days. It is her salad of choice if she has an option to order one. She liked it. I tasted it. It was okay. I mean, how can you ruin caesar salad? It had just the right amount of sauce, and the cheese croutons looked good.

I decided to have the artisan breads and spreads. Looking back...I really shouldn't have gotten this. It wasn't that it was bad, because it wasn't. It was just that it is so much! Too much for one person. They should reallly add another spread and offer it as a two person appetizer. The bread was okay. The roasted garlic was yummy. The sun-dried tomato spread was okay. It was very bland and really needed some salt. I didn't like the pesto sauce, but I am not a huge fan of basil to begin with, so no loss there. But what was weird that the tomato spread was sitting in the pesto. Very odd indeed. The eggplant spread was not good at all to me, and I love baba ganoush like no one's business. Something seemed off in it.

It is kind of funny, but J's standby Italian dish when there is nothing on the menu that looks good to her is Chicken Parmesan. She eats it all of the time, it is one of her absolute favorite dishes ever. So, of course, that is what she ordered. She took one bite of it, and then told me that the sauce tasted funny. So, I tasted it too. It was not good at all, and from my reference point above, I will eat any kind of tomato sauce, no matter how it is fixed. It is probably the one thing in this world that I am not picky about whatsoever. I found this one too cooked and the flavor balance was off in it. The only thing I can think of is that we were the last seating of the day, and maybe it just sat too long throughout the day. I don't know. She ate the chicken after she scraped all of the cheese and the sauce off of it. The chicken was good and perfectly cooked.

I went for the Pork Marsala. I love mushrooms, marsala sauce, pork and risotto. This dish had all of these things. It had to be good, right? Well. The pork was perfectly cooked and the sauce was great. The risotto was just downright bad. I have never had a risotto that wasn't creamy until this one. It didn't have a big mushroom flavor and the rice just didn't taste like risotto. I did not eat any of it except for the one bite to taste. The asparagus were really salty too. I wasn't a fan of this dish as a whole. Elements of it were great, and if the rice was cooked right, it would have been a home run.

J had dessert! Yay! Cheesecake. Another standby of hers. Ricotta cheesecake though. She liked the flavor of it, but the texture was funky. Not your normal cheesecake. And I kind of think she was spoiled by the one she had at the Brown Derby.

I, on the other hand, had the tiramisu. It was not all that good. It didn't have a lot of flavor. Everything seemed runny and bland. Not my favorite thing at all.

So all in all, it was not a great experience for us. Our server was nice and friendly, but this was the one restaurant we felt rushed. Our reservation was for 6:50 and we were done by 7:30. Three courses in 40 minutes. Definitely rushed. We probably will not go back here again for a really long time.

Next...the last meal of our trip...Raglan Road.

Here it is. The last meal of our trip. The last day of our trip. We were well-rested and ready to take on our works until the next trip (June).

I decided months ago when we were making our plans and reservations for this trip, that I got to decide the final eating place. Since we had eaten at the Turf Club already since we stayed at SSR, I thought, why not go to DTD and try some Irish food? I browsed the menus and thought it would be perfect. If worse comes to worse and J can't eat anything on the menu, at least they would have a burger she could eat. Thank god...because that is exactly what happened.

We were there right at 11 for our ADR. We actually had to wait a few minutes while they got ready so we perused the menu. Holy cow. It changed. It is completely different than anyone had posted online! Uh-oh. I looked and the first thing was the burger. Saved! Yay! Now, since I can eat just about anything, I was not even worried about me. Here is what the new menu looks like.

We decided on the Dalkey Duo for starters since we are both fans of sausages. Battered and deep fried sausages? Hog heaven talk here people. They were good, and I mean really good. The sauce they came with was almost like tartar sauce, but not quite. I can't even pick out what that sauce was. They said it was a mustard sauce, but it didn't taste like any mustard I ever had. I do dig the new presentation though. And holy schnikey it was heavy!

J opted for the burger and chips. It looked like any other burger in any other place. She said it was good, but then again, she would live on burgers somedays. She was not a fan of the chips. She had never had chips before, and she said they had a very odd texture. Almost boiled and then fried, so they had the consistency of instant potatoes on the inside. Crazy American and their idea of a good fry, crispy and skinny. Needless to say, she didn't eat them.

3221758898_797f1195df.jpg

I had the Lobster Club Sandwich and smashed potatoes. It was so good! It was hard to eat, but once I cut it in half, it was pretty easy. The lobster was well cooked, and the mayo tasted homemade. There was this thin crispy slice of parma ham that made the sandwich. I loved this sandwich. It was almost like a lobster roll except better. The smashed potatoes were good. Needed more mayo, but good, nonetheless. I ate all of the sandwich and a couple bites of the potatoes.

Dessert. J was browsing the menu outside and saw that they had ice cream with butterscotch topping. Butterscotch is her favorite topping. She was so happy someone finally had a dessert she would love. We get to order dessert from the menus, and it isn't on there. Oh no. We asked our server, and she told us it was on the kid's menu. She graciously said she could still have it if she wanted. Yay! Now...the problem. Their butterscotch topping is homemade and you can tell by pouring it on top of the ice cream and it hardens like butter would. It then gave it this weird texture. She didn't like it. Oh well. We have just really figured out that J is really not a dessert person anyway.

I went for the pudding that everyone raves about. Now, I have just become a fan of bread pudding. I used to have an issue with the texture of it, but I have grown out of it recently. This bread pudding was fabulous! The vanilla sauce, mixed with the butterscotch....holy cow it was so good! I could have just drunk the sauces on their own, to be completely honest with you, but I restrained myself from doing so. I loved this and now know why everyone raves about it so much.

Would we go back here again? I would, J wouldn't, but she would to make me happy. It is what we do. I would love to go back during dinner time when there is a show. That would be fun.

TOTALS:
Dalkey Duo - $9.95
Diet Coke - $2.50
Iced Tea - $2.25
Burger - $11.95
Lobster Club - $13.95
Ice Cream - $2.95
Ger's Pudding - $7.99
Tax - $3.36
Tip - $10.00
Total - $64.90

Observations on the deluxe dining plan. Holy crikey is this a lot of food. We added up every single receipt from the food and realized that only if we had eaten dinner and ordered the most expensive thing on each respective menu is it worth it. Now, if we were doing a lot of signature dining, it would be worth it, but a whole bunch of restaurants, not really. The thing is, we really aren't that big of eaters to begin with. This was a very big struggle for us to continue to eat this much food on a daily basis. It took us two weeks to get back to eating how we normally do. I don't think we ate for at least two days after we got home. While it is a value for a lot of people, it just wasn't for us. Does it mean we won't get it again? No. It just means that we will be doing it very differently when we do. I mean...we are thinking about getting it when we go for the weekend in December just because I want to eat at Cali Grill in the worst way, and we are staying at the BLT, so it would make sense. We wll be trying out the QS dining plan as well in June, so we will see how that goes. But otherwise, the regular dining plan is more than sufficient for us.

Thank you everyone for reading along, and I am glad everyone kept going till the end. Until next time.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write these reviews! I subbed through the thread tools, but I wanted you to know that I enjoyed every single one of them!

:) :) :) :) :) Awesome report! I really enjoyed your reviews...I now have a better idea of restaurants that are an absolute must and restaurants to pass by. Thanks also for your analysis of DxDP v. DDP...I've been debating that myself and am now convinced that DDP and some out of pocket meals will be the best way to go for my family. Thanks so much!!

Thank you so very much for a great food review, you had wonderful pictures 'n I thoroughly enjoyed readin' your comments. :thumbsup2

Thank you for doing the reviews. I just read them all! It helps so much to have reviews to look at while I am trying to decide my ADRS that I need to call in this week for May. :)

Fab reviews and pictures! You gave such good detail and why or why not you liked each item. Just the way I love to read a review!:thumbsup2

I am so sorry about your MM meal....we had a very similar experience for our dinner there too but we tried lunch this past June and it was much better. I really must get to RR for that yummy bread pudding!

Thanks for the GREAT reviews (thanks to J also.)
And happy anniversary/happy birthday.
We passed MM a few times, and it smelled actively unpleasant. This was only one day, so I guess that could have been a fluke, but it turned us off on trying it. Tutto is really good, and Il Mulino is wonderful. I think J would find things she likes, and you could explore the menu.
Waiting for reviews after your June trip...

I've been lurking on these boards for awhile now and reading your dining report! It is AWESOME and I just had to come over here and post that as soon as I registered LOL! Maybe I will even do one when I go in March...

I am so sorry about your bad experience at MM, we never had that happen to us there, but then we had one of the worst meals on our last trip at Raglan Road (the famed bread pudding being cold and dry - yuck!)
But actually I wanted to say

THANK YOU FOR DOING THESE REVIEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!! :flower3:

I enjoyed them very much!

I truly enjoyed writing them. This was my first time, and now it definitely will not be the last. I am even succumbing to bringing the really great camera from now on for better pictures.

This board helped me so much when we were deciding on where to go with a picky eater. I just wish I had found this place before I made all of my ADR's for last year's trip.

Great reviews! Thanks for taking the time to share them with us.:thumbsup2

Thank you for reading.

Thank you. I definitely tried to make it all come across okay.

I am glad I could oblige. Thanks for reading!

Thanks, we will definitely try again. It takes a lot more than some bad rice to make me stop going somewhere. J will just have to order pizza if we feel in the mood to go again (after all, there is a huge shortage of places to eat at DHS). I hate that about that park.

Thanks for the GREAT reviews (thanks to J also.)

Thank you so much! I always say give at least every place one try. You never know...it could have been a really off day. J is definitely branching out in her tastes these days. We may even go back to Boma in another year or so after she expands a little more.

Thanks! It took me forever to register and post on these boards too! I never thought it would be this much fun writing about our food experiences. You should do it!

I enjoyed them very much!

Thanks! I am glad you liked them. It is that whole thing of what someone else likes another person may not. And every single restaurant in the world has off nights where something will not be good. There are way too many variables for it not to happen.

Thank you so much everyone for reading along! I really enjoyed doing this, and now I will definitely be doing one for every single trip we take, and we take 2-4 a year!

OK, I am debating between Rose&Crown or Tutto Italia for dinner...What do you think? You're one of the few posters who has gone to both. I don't know what to do!!
