Olympics: Lindsey Jacobellis.......

I just don't understand why the athletes that play by the rules, don't make any controversy hardly get any air time. The media tends to focus on the people that have an attitude that they want to be different and try to establish a bad girl, bad boy image. Can you imagine if every girl hockey player decided she needed her own RV out in the parking lot. Most couldn't afford one because they are college students.

I couldn't agree more. My husband and I have had conversations about this while watching these games. I find it very frustrating that behavior like Weir's for example, gets so much airtime and attention. :( I would much rather see that time and attention distributed a bit more evenly amongst the athletes. LOL... along the same lines, we had the very same conversation while watching American Idol. So much air time devoted to the bad boys/girls.... the foul mouths, etc. For me, it gets very old very fast.

damo: oops, you're right. I got Maltais of Canada and Karin Ruby of France mixed up. Duh! Wasn
t paying attention after all the hubbub! BTW France's coach DID try to lodge a complaint during the qualifiers because of the falling snow saying that the conditions were hindering his athletes performance. However the rules state that all weather related complaints must be made an hour before the event. He had security called and everything...caused quite a scene!

How about this quote from her:

"I was having fun," she said. "Snowboarding is fun. I was ahead. I wanted to share my enthusiasm with the crowd. I messed up. Oh well, it happens."

"Oh well, it happens," she says?????? She just lost getting a gold medal at the olympics and she says, "oh well"
Well maybe its that kind of attitude that lost it for the USA. It seems to me that some of these athletes are forgetting that they are there representing their country not just themselves.
If her attitude was "oh well" why was  ? That Silver will remind her for the rest of her life where a big head will get you.

I like the snowboarders. They're so unpolished, except for the chick that posed for the men's magazine. She was the same old, same old.

All of the other snowboarders that I've heard interviewed said that they probably would have done exactly the same thing. It is just a shame that she had to fall.

I am in shock that I am reading that people are upset with her. She got SILVER! WOW that is an accomplishment that MILLIONS of Americans will NEVER have. She MADE it to the olympics, she is and would be a SUCCESS even if she did NOT medal. She tried something, it didn't work, but that does NOT make her any less of a person or athlete.

One thing I love hearing from the athletes is how much they love their sport, and she clearly does. She will still have endorsers knocking on her door and she will have a generation looking up to her wishing they could be in her shoes and have the ability that she does.

Those who are watching need to know that she has probably beat herself up for her choice more than anyone would ever be able to but she SHOULD be proud that she achieved what she did and I sincerely hope that she does not get the cold shoulder. She represents our nation but as a nation we need to support her as well and we should be screaming and applauding that she received a medal that the majority of this nation will never have.

I agree and especially the bold emphasis (mine). How many of us at 20 didn't screw up royally at least once? The difference is only that the world wasn't watching us do it!

I felt bad for her. A lot of the olympic athletes are so darned young these days. They really live in the moment and typical of their age group, don't think to many steps ahead sometimes. I don't think that she thought in a million years that she would fall at that point. OTOH, my DH was happy she fell! I smacked him in the back of the head for that one. Unfortunately he was good and sick of her before the games even started. Every channel at every minute seemed to have her on a comercial. Happens every year before the olympics and every year he hopes that the athlete in question gets their head deflated at the games. He's actually a nice guy, I promise :) . I've tried explaining that it's the media and networks that cause the problem but he does have a point when he says that the athlete in some ways "sells" themselves into it.

Now Johnny Weird.......what in the world was going on in his head in Torino?!
It's nice that you love Russia and that your good friends gave you a warm up jacket of the old soviet Russia, but you don't wear it at the olympics! Wear it everywhere you go some other time, sleep in it if you want to, but you don't wear it at the olympics dude. :scratchin
