She has the sno-boarding accent to boot too. Before her meet she was talking to the press and miraculously her accent was gone-but when she is on the sno-board it reappears. My dd-16 said she knows when to turn it on and off.

Didn't the US guy who won the gold that snowboarder cross event do something similar a few days ago (only he didn't fall)? I recall my son was watching and I heard him say, "Look that guy in front is doing grabs [snowboard trick] because he's so far ahead."

She is a kid. Everyone makes mistakes, everyone is fallible. Sure it was a shame to be played out in front of the world at the Olympics, but life happens.

Just to bring up a postive event... did you guys hear what happened in the women's team cross country event? A Canadian skier breaks her pole. As she struggles, a Norwegian coach reaches out and gives her a spare. The Canadians go on to take silver. Norway finished fourth. That's sportsmanship.

Or the mens cross country race where #4 fell at the start of the race and the pack slowed down so he can catch up. He eventurlly won a silver. Olympics are full of these moments.

Jacobellis looked non-chalant in her interview with Costas, and that irks me more than her showboating. Same goes with Miller and Weir.

Just because some of us thought it was funny and she looked stupid (just the way I thought Leon Lett looked stupid showboating in the SB) doesn't mean we are "bitter" about the gold medal. I couldn't care less about the Olympics and our gold medal count. I just want entertainment and she provided me that....just probably not the way she wanted to.

WOW, I really think people put WAY too much pressure on a young girl. She messed up...big deal! It's not like she's a heart surgeon....she's a snow boarder!! I can't think of anything more inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. Everyone should be PROUD of her for getting the silver medal, not making fun of her for not getting the gold. America's priorities are extremely skewed.

ITA! I felt a little sorry for her until I saw her interview this morning with some lady I forgot her name. She was giggling about it and very (imo) unapologetic. She almost implied she wouldn't do anything different because she was "having fun". That's when she came across as idiotic. I sure would do something different! You're in the Olympics- have fun when you've secured that gold medal for your country. Just what I would do...
Also, I couldn't agree more about figure skater Johnny Weir. After seeing his cocky interview, I think that's the first time I've ever rooted against a fellow American! He came across as a major jerk...

I agree. Yeah, it wasn't the smartest thing to do, but she did. She says it's "no big deal" in her interviews, but do you really think she feels that way?!?!? Somehow I doubt it. And I don't know if any of you saw the replay from when they showed what she did in the semis and the finals- in the semis, she also grabbed her board, so when I heard she blew the gold by doing some trick or whatever, I expected something much worse, like one of the halfpipe tricks. When they were showing the race you couldn't even really tell what she did!

And if she considered earning a spot on the Olympic team inconsequential, then she didn't deserve the spot.

Again, it's not so much about the color of the medal as it is about taking the honor you have earned and appreciaitng it.

Who should she apologize to? YOU who are sitting on your butt in your warm living room watching TV?

Give me a break. These kids train hard and she didn't do anything outrageous. I watched it and it looked like on the jump she landed bad. Could have happened to anyone. In fact it did happen to the three people behind her.

First Miller, then Weir, now apparently Jacobellis. At this rate, they're at least headed for a record in being the team with the most arrogant, self serving and immature athletes. It's so sad.

Can you name one person on the girls hockey team? or how about Shawn White-people had no idea who he was-he received his 15 minutes and he was did everything right-there is very little press about him and he won a gold. I guess hugging and kissing your mom and dad-and thanking them for missing work and taking him sno-boarding don't qualify as worthy news.

Shaun White was an incredible and gracious winner, his parents must be so proud of him. He seems like a really great kid!

I think maybe she was enjoying every minute of her Olympic experience.

I was a gymnast, not at the Olympic level, but I've seen enough sour faced kids competing at high levels to wonder why they do it.

She was probably really having a blast out there, excited that she was winning, and in her jubilation made a bad call.

There was a consequence for that call.

As for all of her interviews, she possibly looks at it as a "There's nothing that I can do about this now. I refuse to not be proud of my silver medal or let anyone take that accomplishment away."

I applaud her for that.
