OLD THREAD: 2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ, Part 2- May, June and July DON'T POST HERE!

There are not words. How I got so lucky to find that one particular dude ranch??? Mickey Mouse helped. I did lots of research but boy did I get it right. Once I narrowed it down to ten ranches that met what I wanted, I noticed Elk Mountain was in Buena Vista, Colorado. I knew Mickey sent me a sign.

I loved reading this trip report! You really made me smile and I'm so glad you and Jeanne had a great time.

This is OT from your actual question, but had to share my experience with you. Last year, we did the exact thing as you plan to do. Our flight got in late (10pm'ish) to MCO so we decided not to spend the money for the BC room on our arrival night. We stayed at All Star Sports and then transfered in the morning. If I had it to do over again, I would NOT recommend this. The next morning, we had to take a cab from All Star and lug our luggage to BC and check in all over again. It actually wasted a lot of time (and we got to BC early, around 9:30am). In hindsight, we should have just stayed at the Hyatt Regency INSIDE the MCO airport and then caught the earliest Magical Express bus straight to the BC! It looks like rooms at the Hyatt are around $140/night.

Just a little advice from someone who walked in your shoes last year!

I have to ask. Why didn't you call bell services to your room and arrange for luggage transport to the next Disney hotel?

We have added a day before our BC stay at Pop century so we don't have to do the "up at 3 am to catch the plane" drill.

We plan on taking Magical Express to Pop, staying 1 night and then having our luggage handled by bell services @ Pop and shipped to the next resort (Beach Club) while we check out and dash off to the parks. I know that our luggage will be held by Bell Services @ the Beach Club until we decide to check in later on the second day.

Hi everyone! Long time, no post..... I can't get over how quickly Dee has to start up a new thread from all the posts that occur for the YC/BC!

I feel lost since I'm usually planning a trip to the Beach Club for this month, so I'm getting my fix through all of you...keep those pictures and trip reports coming! I can live vicariously through all of you...

For those of you who didn't know, my mother lost her 3.5 year battle with Stage IV breast cancer on June 12 :sad1: She was 61 years young.... My girls and I are trying to keep Dad company as much as possible and my 9 year old hopes that in the coming years, we can bring him with us to the Beach Club (he's only ever stayed at Ft. Wilderness in the cabins when we were kids...)

I just wanted to check in and say that I do enjoy reading all your posts and feel as though I've missed tons! I have a lot of reading to do...

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles but I'm glad that we can put a little wag in your tail. Hopefully your Dad will become as enamored about Disney as the rest of your family and the Grand kids can keep his spirits up with all their activities. It's good to have you back!

OOH what did you have to eat there?? Buffet or A La Carte?

At the Captain's Grill I've been dreaming of that Lobster omelet they have on the menu! Thank God the menus aren't in a picture version otherwise I may have to get a drool proof keyboard!

Welcome home Teena! Sounds like a fantastic mom/daughter trip! Sorry i missed you during my stay. Hopefully we will meet up again during my next trip.

I was looking at the noodle swap post and noticed that there is a gap during part of my vacation this August. We will be at the Beach Club from August 10 to August 21, 2012. I was hoping that I could "take the noodles out for some fun and a poolside beverage" for the part of my trip where they are not currently being entertained.

I believe the post said to post in the main thread to participate in the noodle swap. Please let me know if any of those dates during my trip are still available.

Thanks! Can hardly wait! Less than two months to go

Elk Mountain Ranch taught me what good guest service is all about. I learned a lot. Honestly, if anybody here wants to experience unbelievable scenery, the best horses west of the Mississippi, unbelievable guest service, fantastic food, great white water rafting, shooting, archery, volleyball, picnics (half way through your ride), super cabins and an unbelievable child's program, you MUST book a week at Elk Mountain Dude Ranch in Buena Vista, Colorado. I thought I knew good guest service. They put Disney to shame. The owners, Sue and Tom, are amazing people and the people they hire could all teach Disney guest service! After spending the first evening getting to know you, they match you to the perfect horse. They never missed one out of the 24 people there our week.

The children all cried when they left Sunday. I cried too. The wranglers all cried with relief when Jeanne left. They had their hands full with her. She showed them a thing or two playing volleyball, softball, etc. And she taught them all Texas Hold Em. I decided the white water rafting (which can be pretty wild in May and June) might hurt my back so I decided to stay back and take a nice trail ride with one of the wranglers. Jeanne had a ball. So many firsts. We found out she has quite a talent at shooting, fishing and archery too and square dancing will soon be taught at her school. She had so much fun. But you can sit back and do nothing too if you want.

My only regret was I wished I had done it when I was a tad younger and in better shape.

I strongly suggest anybody that goes need to go talk to their family doctor about two weeks before. Thank goodness for my family doctor. She did a dude ranch a few years ago and saw what that super high altitude can do. She gave me a prescription that I started every day for a week before I went and then every day while there. Jeanne's doctor also gave her the same prescription. And we saw what that high altitude can do first hand. Jeanne and I were the only ones on the prescription and also the only people there that didn't lose at least one day to headaches and stomach problems. The side effects are funny though. Our hands and feel would tingle once in a while and anything you drank that was carbonated tasted very strange. The prescription did not help the fact that walking ten feet make you huff and puff. Kids didn't seem to be bothered but the rest of us were really funny. We'd walk from the cabins to dinner and all be out of breath.

I never in my life thought I'd ever say a place could out do Disney with guest service. Elk Mountain in Colorado (there is one in some other state too so don't get them mixed up) just blew my socks off!

Dee will post more pictures when Jeanne downloads the ones from her camera. The others were from her phone. The pictures won't do the ranch justice or the scenery. I highly recommend this place for anybody, ages 5 and up. There were younger children there our week but I personally would say age 5 and up. And honestly even if you are my age and never been on a horse, do it!!!! The third day a bunch of us didn't want quite as long a trail ride as was planned and told Tom and Sue. No problem, they rearranged the group and made ones of varying lengths of time. They will do anything for you ... obviously as long as it is safe. The terrain is wild. Once in a while they get people who want to gallop up and down mountains that are covered with rock (I don't know how the horses do it walking). You are always with fantastic wranglers and you are always safe!!!

If anybody has any questions about it, please PM me since this isn't Y&B business. Jeanne said as we were leaving, "I don't care if I have to save for this for ten years, I'm bringing Princess Lily here when she's old enough!!!!!" That pretty much says it all. I'd go again in a second!!!!!!

I'm so happy you loved the ranch. Tom and Sue are wonderful as is the staff. We spent a wonderful week there and have talked about going back ever since.

Hi Everyone!
Do you know if there are any tables with umbrellas and chairs around the pool that you can bring food from Hurricane Hannah's. If there are, where are they located?

Thanks!

There are some tables with umbrellas right in front of Hurricane Hannahs, both high top and low top. There are also tables located closer to the hotel buildings for both YC and BC. We ate several lunches at Hurricane Hannah's last year....I think those were my DH's favorite CS meals!

Can anyone tell me how late ME runs? We had a change in plans and are flying down a day early, problem is that our flight doesn't get in until 9:45 pm. Is ME still running then?

Question for anyone who has eaten at Captain's Grille recently or anyone who is there now that can find out for me.

Did they switch from the lobster sliders back to a lobster roll? The CG menu on the Dis that says its updated as of 5/2012 says "New England style lobster roll" so I was wondering if they changed back.

Thank you!

As of 2 weeks ago they were the sliders. DH had them and really enjoyed them!

Have you heard about Garden Grocer?

We've used them several times. You can order milk, fresh fruit, cereal etc. to keep in your room. It won't help you out at the parks that much but it's great to have in your room for early morning breakfasts and afternoon snacking!

Our kids also are still on whole milk and we have done CL for the milk access all day, the shelf stable chocolate milk and also Garden Grocer. I liked using GG a lot both times we did. So nice to have exactly what we need waiting when we check in and not having to search for it!

There are some tables and umbrellas over by the kids area! We sat there one afternoon while the kids played in the water

ME runs 24 hours but if you get in that late you will need to get your luggage to take on the bus with you!

I <3 YC!

My family loved it! Just a wonderful time.
I haven't been able to write up at TR yet, but I wanted to post in here to all the awesome DISers who I have stalked and queried about the resorts... it lived up to my expectations and beyond!

We booked two standard rooms and were given pool view! We were coming off a rocky start to our trip, so I'm not sure if that had something to do with it, but the front desk at YC were beyond friendly, helped resolve a problem we carried over from our first resort, and made us all feel at home!

SAB was more than I could've expected and DD had a blast dancing with the lifeguards and building sand castles. We loved strolling between BC/YC, and sitting on the Boardwalk.

:goodvibes to the awesome people who helped convince me this was the right resort and I can't wait to book our next stay!

Just got an email from one of my bosses ... I'll be there on 7/4.

Woooohoooo! I haven't seen anyone in the lobby greeting since we came last Wednesday. I am definitely looking forward to seeing you there!:banana::banana:

Welcome back Teena!! I am so glad you and Jeanne had a wonderful time at the dude ranch. You both are very adventurous for sure.

Kldmom2000~ I am so sorry for your loss. Spending time with your dad is good for all of you!

Welcome Back!
That is wonderful for me to hear as this will be our first YC stay as well:yay:
I already know I love the Epcot resort area but I am so excited to try YC.
I was showing the kids pictures of SAB online this afternoon and their mouths were hanging open. Can't wait.
I'm glad you had such a wonderful trip!

According to Build a Better Mousetrip, the Movies on the Beach for July are:

Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Movie Schedule
By the Beach ~ 9:00PM

Sundays - Tangled
Mondays - Cars
Tuesdays - Toy Story 3
Wednesdays - Wall-E
Thursdays - Ratatouille
Fridays - The Princess & the Frog
Saturdays - Lilo & Stitch

There is no mention of a special movie for July 4. Last year they showed National Treasure.

I tried emailing the Yacht & Beach IPO this morning, explained who I am and sent links of this forum and requested a copy of the Activities schedule for July. They wrote back and said they were not able to accomodate my request :sad1: but I could try WDW Guest Communications.

I just did that, so we will see how that goes.

But for any of you who will be staying club level in July, if you receive a copy of the Activities Schedule by email, could you please forward it to me at beachclubdee@yahoo.com

Many thanks!

As soon as I figure out how to copy the activities schedule, I'll send it to you.

You should have no trouble getting a beer earlier than 5 PM. Keep in mind that they are starting to really crack down on people not booking CL going into the lounge so your friends should not visit you on the fifth floor. Also, the beers in the lounge are glass bottles and they can't be taken to the pool. At least they were glass bottles last summer when we stayed CL. If your friends are getting beers for the pool (which is a really good idea since the prices at the pool are really high IMO), make sure they order the bottles/cans that are safe and allowed at pools. And if that's when you'll be using them, it might be a good idea to order some for yourself unless you want to poor the beer into your refillable mug and take that to the pool ... that would work.

Thanks Teena! That all sounds great! And as far as friends visiting, I have already told them all about the lounge and us being on a separate floor. Our visiting will be us to them for sure. I think we will enjoy the separation! LOL.

Glad to see you back posting here- once again, I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. My heart goes out to your family during this difficult time.

:welcome: to the DIS and this thread!

The noodles are being returned on Aug 12 and have another engagement starting Aug 17, so I have you on the schedule for Aug 12-17.

Careful with the poolside beverages- a couple of the noodles are minors!

I have also added you to the Be Our Guest List.

The way the menu sounds, I might have to eat breakfast there everyday of our trip!! Dark chocolate waffles with espresso cream and cherries, citrus french toast, blueberry ricotta hotcakes...it's almost too much to handle :)
