I spoke to customer service yesterday on the phone, apparently the DM of the Orlando stores got it in his head to charge 20$ more for the Rockband 2 game. The cashier scanned the paper from corporate, and it scanned in at 19.99 (normal MSRP) and price adjusted it right there in front of me... I was pissed when she did that. I was the first person to make the complaint because she had to call the store directly to find out. But they're mailing me a 25$ gift card, and my friend this morning went to the store and they refunded him the 30$ difference.

What do you think is the best way to try to get the word out about this?? Granted it was only like 40-50 copies... but overcharging people 20-30$ is like instant 1000$, and it wasn't just the store I went to, but ALL of the Orlando stores that were open on Thursday, because it was the district manager that made them change the price.

For any one that did get the deal...
You should've been charged 19.99 for Rockband 2 or 59.99 for Rockband: Beatles (and you should've gotten the Beatles guitar). If this didn't happen, then go back to the store and they should fix it.

I'm not understanding. Are you saying the DM changed the POS to charge a higher price for the Rockband game? If so, that's not possible to do. POS systems aren't set up that way so it would have been an error from another source, like corporate or whoever handles their system. He would have had to manually override every transaction to reflect the higher price.
Is that what he did?

Yep, every transaction was manually changed at Point of Sales to the higher price.

When she scanned the paper, it scanned at 19.99, and I saw that price, and they changed it to 39.99 right in front of me.
That night, I went back for lego rockband, and the two ladies I waited in line with earlier, told me the same thing happened to them. So I wrote their phone number's down and told them I was calling corporate Friday. So I called them both back and told them to go get the refund. And this morning when I went back with my friend... the store was aware of my phone call last night.

The CS rep told me, the DM called Thursday morning to say to price adjust the rockband 2 game to 39.99 for Wii and 360 and 49.99 for PS3. Thursday Evening, he called back to say there was an error and to only charge 19.99 for Rockband 2. Uhhh... hello all the copies were gone by 12:30pm... they distributed all the wristbands before the store opened.
When I went in at 3am friday morning, I even asked the store manager "hey, what was the price of rockband 2, and he said 40$"... But I got right answer when I spoke the CS.

I'm sorry this is all so weird. So some CS agent at corporate (that was open on Thanksgiving) happened to know he called to request a change in the POS? And he bounced from register to register over riding everything?
Just makes no sense to me. :confused3

Actually the list price ranges from $29-$49 depending on the platform. Sometimes the price is wrong in the computer and you do have to raise them. Nobody got ripped off because any of them could have declined to purchase the game. Did you get the free guitar they were giving out? Because that bundle was $70 at Walmart.

I got the free guitar. But the MSRP of Rockband 2 (game only) is 19.99. You can check wal-mart, target, gamestop, any store that sells it, it's 19.99.

And it was the cashiers adjusting the price, well they had a manger or some one that could do it, approving all the increases. And the only thing they told me was they were told this morning to do it.

Customer Service on the phone told me it was supposed to be sold for 19.99 (all three systems). Then I told them what they did to me, and she offered me a 25$ gift card.

They had a packet with the bar codes from home office, that they were supposed to use for scanning the game/guitar so it would run through properly. She scanned the paper because the game's barcode wouldn't work. And it scanned at 19.99. That's part of the reason why I made such a fuss over it. Because home office is the one that sets the prices in the computer, that's not something a store can do individually, they can only price adjust at the time of sales. Which is what they did with every copy of rockband 2 that got sold.

What a store sells it for and what a MSRP is a huge difference! Ever see how much a car is MSRP versus what they actually can sell it for. MSRP is way higher than your typical retail price. What was it marked or advertised for in the circular?

The DM knows he was wrong, and the stores know as well that it was wrong. So any one that brings in the reciept will get a refund of the over charge. I was just wondering what the best way to get the word out about it.

They ALL have it marked down from list. Which is their choice; and everything is on sale right now. Look at amazon, they actually show the list in their prices... I used to own a computer store and my husband manages an chain that sells video games right now so I'm very aware of how the pricing of video games work. Almost nobody sells at list; which is the MRSP. And if they scanned a different item just to get the description, you can't hold them to that price that came up from the SKU. Unless the BOX said 19.99 you don't have a case...and basically any head office will give you anything you want if you complain enough...doesn't make you right.

Here's the link to amazon...all the descriptions show the list price:

Just for a fun story about a customer who was totally in the wrong getting their way at our store...we had bounce back coupons a few months ago. Basically you get them and they tell you to come back between certain dates to get your savings on the next purchase. Well it's all over the posters when we give them out, and on the card itself. She missed, not by a day or two but by weeks. She tried to get her savings and we couldn't because it expired. She phoned head office and wouldn't get off the phone until they agreed to give it to her. Was she right? No absolutely not, but head office has better things to do than deal with this for hours.

Why do you need to get the word out? People are overcharged every single day at retail stores.
If they made the price increase right then and there in front of the customer and they said nothing than they obviously didn't care. If they didn't notice than it's their own fault.
Not sure why you feel this is your cross to bear. :confused3

When I made the call to coporate, I asked them what the price of the game was. I didn't even tell her how much I paid for the game until she told me it was 19.99. And it was only stores in Orlando under this one DM. All across the nation, every one else got it for 19.99.

The stores are aware of this... and when I went in this morning with my friend, they gave him the credit back with no problem. And told him that it was the DM's call that made them change the price and that the DM got it wrong.

Here's the price of the game only

There is no list price on those links...and they are sold out. I'm still curious, what was the price on the box?

I don't see why you're giving me such a haggle. It was a poor choice on the DM's side, that made every one else pay for his mistake. You can call the 800 number yourself and ask. I just feel 20$ is a big rip off, and people should return with thier reciepts and get thier money back.

People will still fight for a price when the sticker/ad says a certain price. Why wouldn't you make a fuss over it, when the register says "Rock Band 2 Wii... 19.99"?? Right in front of you, and they change it.

All that shows is the price that Gamestop is selling it for.

If you go to the Rock Band Store website (i.e. the manufacturers website), you'll see that their price for Rock Band 2 for Wii is $49.99

http://www.rockbandstore.com/index.php?v=rbs_rock_the_game_rock_band_2

So, the MRSP IS $49.99 - not $19.99 (or whatever else you keep saying that it is).

I thought you got it a Old Navy not Gamestop.

Because sometimes things are priced wrong, and the cashier has to change it. If the box said 19.99 I don't blame you, but when they have to scan another sku and it comes up at a price and they change it to the proper price I don't see a problem. I just don't like the assumption that the store was trying to rip you off...as somebody who works retail it's insulting quite honestly because we do stuff like this all the time when things are underpriced in the system.

For a huge thanksgiving day sale... and corprate sends you a packet with all the info in it, and says "here scan this".

It would've been one thing if Old Navy carried rock band 2 ALL the time, but this was a 1 day deal, corporate knew what they were doing when they put the price in.

And yes, I've worked in retail myself. I think almost any one of working age has had a time or two with retail jobs. But if the price scans at a lower price, or if the advertisement says a lower price, then it should be honored at the lower price. There's no excuse for bumping a price up like that infront of the customer.

I agree with the original poster.

She was getting the game only, not with the guitar. The quoted price should have been $19.99 because that was the deal Old Navy had for that particular SKU. Not with the other games. THAT game.

I think it's decent of her to bring that to people's attention, because not everyone pays attention when being rung up. If she helped someone get their money back, more power to her.

I'm completely unaffected by this, but I appreciate it when others step up to keep others from getting cheated. :thumbsup2

It's like an instant 1,000$ per store in the orlando area... That's a lot of money, when 20$ means a lot to some one these days. The ones that stood in line to get that deal were there to save money... not get ripped off.
