Old Key West versus FW cabins

Has anyone stayed at Old Key West and then stayed in a FW cabin? We've visited Old Key West twice (in a 1BR villa) and really loved it. We like someplace quiet, with enough room for a family of four to spread out in. We're not really a camping family, and we wonder if it will be too rustic for us (it looks great in the photos, though). Any opinions? Thanks.

The cabins are not too rustic in my opinion. We stayed in them when we were a family of 4 and had a great time. You are surrounded by nature where the kids can get out and have fun, you can go for relaxing walks, go fishing, go ride the horses, go to the petting zoo(depending on age of children), experience the campfire and movie every night, enjoy good food....so much more to do.
The 1 bedroom at OKW is larger and has more amenities, extra tv, washer and dryer, huge kitchen if you cook and a bathroom to die for, but FW is still more relaxing as far as I am concerned.
We are OKW-DVC Members and now stay at FW because we have a MH and just prefer staying in our home on wheels.
OKW would always be our first choice but I would give the cabin a shot just to try something different. You could always split your time between the two, say FW first and finish at OKW.

John VN,
Thanks for the info. It was helpful to hear from someone who has been to both places. FW sounds very relaxing. How are the pools, are they quiet like the smaller OKW pools? We're going in late August.

Generally adults will be well behaved and kids will be kids. Great time for all.
We're not booked for Aug. yet but might be there same time as you.
You WILL have a great time.

I am a DVC member mostly because we had such a great experience at the FW cabins. We loved having some living space and the kitchen. It made us realize that we don't want to stay in a hotel again...especially for long trips of 8 - 10 days.

DVC is definately more luxerious than the cabins. But the atmosphere in FW is fun and relaxing. The cabins have amenities so you really aren't roughing it at all. It is just different.

Frankly, we are taking our RV (tent trailer) down in October for a stay in FW...because we enjoy it so much.

Good luck in your decision. Sandie
